    Obviously the complexities of having two Motors in conjunction with other issues required skills to overcome, not even including the difficulties of taking off from a grass Runway! Great job on your adjustments and of course the excellent Piloting 👍👏

    Awesome explanations of the maiden flight Jonathan!! The pilot did a great job, especially considering the circumstances that you have covered. Personally, I have found that full-flying stabs almost always have to be zeroed with a fair bit of up-trim to begin......... usually more than manuals indicate. I have been in similar circumstances on a maiden flight, and it is really great to have a knowledgeable wing-man on your side. Unfortunately for me, one of our best wing-men from my area is now with you guys. Take care of him. LOL!!

      Hey Brent. With the new C of G location from Skymaster it should also help lots with the take off! Thanks for letting him move!😂

    I’m a commercial pilot. You are exactly correct. To a pilot, altitude is safety. Nothing good ever comes from aborting a takeoff late. By the time you figure out with a model something is not right... it’s LATE!! Get airborne....think... figure it out...try to relax and pick a good time and spot, of YOUR choosing to land. Get away from the land!!! Altitude is safety to a pilot!

    Really good job on the maiden (by the pilot) - I agree with all the decisions made. I resent landing without flaps, but in this case it was certainly warranted.
    Elevator neutral point: I would focus more on why the neutral point needs to be what it currently is. This, along with what we saw both on takeoff, flight and landing, indicates that a hard look at CG is necessary. The model is clearly quite nose heavy, and a lot of that elevator trim / awkward neutral point could probably be dialed out by having a somewhat less nose heavy setup.
    Tailerons: Mandatory. Glad you are going that route. The F-18 is not particularly roll sensitive (compared to most other narrow aspect jets), and the authority from tailerons is much better, especially at low speeds. It is slightly counter intuitive, since the arm is so much less than for the aileron surfaces, but still, the area of effect is much much larger.

      Didn't make it in the video but shortly after the maiden, skymaster released a revised C of G location.🤔

      @janmb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thelightersideofrc Makes sense. Whatever CG this model had, was at least somewhat nose heavy, probably quite a bit.

      Never checked specifically but I would suspect 28-29 lbs.

    So my ultra flash evo is nose heavy Will it hurt adding weight to the rear? Is this normal for this kit

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on battery location. If all your batteries are up front than you could end up nose heavy.
      As I was dialing in my current ultra flash, I was adding stick on weight to the tail. Ultimately ended up going with lighter batteries. Basically do what you need too to get c of g where it needs to be.
      1. Move batteries or components
      2. Lighter batteries
      3. Add weight to rear.

    I am considering buying an F-18 from Skymaster and they are expensive, but I am afraid of buying anything coming from China. What is the quality like on this plane? And do you know of anyone else producing high quality 1/6 scale F-18's. What do you think of Mibo? They have an A-10 that looks amazing, but they do not have the Super Hornet. Thank you, love your video's.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. Quality is good. The gear on this plane is outstanding! I don't know of anyone else building this size of F18 at the moment.
      Mibo has great quality stuff! The turbine glider I just built is outstanding!
      Thanks for watching!

    There's nothing worse than armchair pilots.....well that and people shouting commands at you from the pit area while you're trying to land a nodel that you're doing a maiden on.....
