There have been a lot of turn based games since that time, but that's the last one I can remember that had high fidelity graphics when it was released. For those that want something to play in this vein. At least gameplay wise
Yeah so many people in the comments just don't look around for the handful of good-to-great turn-based JRPGs that come out every year. For a lot of them, it seems like "FF better be turn-based, or imma be MAD! [*eyes shut*]" Last couple of Like a Dragon games are a great example! Both 9/10 quality games, long and fulfulling to play, funny and heartwearming, great stories, varied in their gameplay. I wonder how many of the "We need turn-based!" people have even taken a look at Like a Dragon...
what makes it so great is that RGG did the opposite of what Square has been doing, and took a series known for its action brawler combat and suddenly transformed it into turn based, even better is that its set in the real world and cant fall back on its setting with its style and visuals. and on top of that, the change to turn-based was such a success that the devs said the main games will stay turn based. As someone who loves turn-based, reading player reviews of Y7 and Y8 and hearing the love the genre shift has gotten is very cathartic
@@DeemerAV Right, and RGG plan to keep the action brawler stuff going in the Judgment series. Best of both worlds. Some of us love both of course. Honestly there are so many good action JRPGs and turn-based JRPGs coming out these days, as a busy adult with job and kids I don't have time to play them all! I hope younger gamers are taking the time to find the games that suit their tastes -- JRPGs of all kinds having a real renaissance the last few years. As good as it's been since early PS2 in my opinion. And we can play so many old games and retro-styled games more easily than ever! I just bought a $10 indie called Ringlorn Saga, which is a super-fun throwback to the first generation of Japanese action RPGs from the mid-80s like Hydlide and Ys. So many varied games to play for JRPG fans...
I'm really happy that someone is filling the hole that Square Enix made, just letting it remain open. I don't believe in the concept of buying more copies per person to booster sales, but this better earn equal to or more than the Persona, Shin Megami Tensei and Trails of games do Because otherwise we will just get another hole to stare into
Whoa, the combat sounds excellent. Plus, laying down the gauntlet to achievement hunters and streamers with the “no damage” run is a great way to drive up interest.
This game will probably be my last Western game that I'll play. If the game truly impressive, then the studio will be the only Western gaming studio that their future games I'll play.
turn based all well and good to me, but despite how good the graphics look, i wonder how well it will sell. the rgp genre is overcrowded, and while people don't frown on turn base, people that get into the genre look for strong appealing characters and catchy story. so i hope it does well.
While Japanese developers have slowly thrown away turn-based systems in their RPG games recently (especially in the Final Fantasy series), meanwhile French developers have come out of nowhere to make RPG games with impressive and stunning turn-based systems, this game will be a masterpiece in this era. I feel nostalgic for turn based RPG games in the 90s.

This game looks absolutely brilliant
I am *very* excited for this game!!
I'm really happy that someone is filling the hole that Square Enix made, just letting it remain open.
I don't believe in the concept of buying more copies per person to booster sales, but this better earn equal to or more than the Persona, Shin Megami Tensei and Trails of games do
Because otherwise we will just get another hole to stare into
We need more interactive turn based rpg combat like Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi sagas and the South Park games (the 2 good ones).
Whoa, the combat sounds excellent. Plus, laying down the gauntlet to achievement hunters and streamers with the “no damage” run is a great way to drive up interest.
The Kojima analogy was spot on
0:31 Boy, doesn't know Legend of Dragoon.
Funny they say "La horde du contrevent" is an inspiration cause when i read the book i was constantly thinking about FF10.
Lost Oddysee was my first thought too-
Looking forward to it. I am sad that Lost Odyssey will never get a PC release, since that is one of the best games (if not THE best) I've ever played.
This game will probably be my last Western game that I'll play. If the game truly impressive, then the studio will be the only Western gaming studio that their future games I'll play.
7:14 as a musician, it's over lmao imma do the no damage run.
and another W for vocal performance of Ben Starr (still say he got robbed at Game Awards)
turn based all well and good to me, but despite how good the graphics look,
i wonder how well it will sell. the rgp genre is overcrowded, and while people
don't frown on turn base, people that get into the genre look for strong
appealing characters and catchy story. so i hope it does well.
Now THAT is a game worth waiting for...
"hasn't been a high fidelity turn based RPG in quite a while"
Larian would like to have a word...
The ps5 pro will also be out when this game is released brilliant
this game look so good. i'm really hype for it. but first is Fantesian neo dimension first. Any Turn base RPG will be in my wish list. IF they keep releasing Great AA or AAA turn base with unique mechanic i will keep buying them one by one
