Hi Lee. I picked up one of these modules about a year ago and it's great to see they've updated it with a USB port as I needed to use a 3.3Volt USRP adaptor to modify and upload a revised protocol file. My Taranis is still running on a pre V2 firmware as The V2 firmware messes up my Lua scripts. So instead I installed ER9TX on my Turnigy 9XR and the module works great being able to select the protocols via the 9XR menu. So far I've used it with Hubsan, FrSky, Eachine/MJX, Spektrum, Syma, and Futaba FAST, protocols and it has performed flawlessly. I think it's a must have for anyone who has a transmitter with a suitable module bay. Regards Nidge.
sputniksam I have the 9XR Pro with ersky9x firmware, is this module going to work on my radio? Don't want to charge to opentx because I dont know if all my switch mods will work with it.
slarvar : Very sorry for the delayed reply. It was quite a while since I installed the module and I can't remember if it was a modified Er9X firmware specific to the module. However there is a fairly concise tutorial detailing the install. Obviously you won't need to solder a programming lead to your 9XRPro as it has a socket for the programming lead. nathan.vertile.com/blog/2016/09/01/diy-4-in-1-module-with-er9x/#updating-the-radio
Have to admit that is pretty slick, and a strong incentive to make me want to update my Taranis 9D+ to FW 2.2 (currently running the 2.0.9 it came with). I did try to update the Taranis to FW 2.2 some time ago, but it messed up all my stored models, and I didn't want to have to go thru all of them to correct whatever was wrong (some key words and parameters have changed). So, I flashed it back to 2.0.9, figuring I'd be good to go, but during the process of flashing to 2.2, it changed a few settings in my stored models, and they weren't recognized by Taranis 2.0.9. So, I had to re-install ALL those models again, a process I would want to avoid at all possible costs (it was very painful, I assure you). Right now I have a little module in the Taranis which emulates a lot of toy grade quad protocols (Syma, Cheerson, etc.), but you have to hold the sticks in a certain position when you power on the TX in order to activate the proper protocol, so its not an ideal situation. BTW, the link you provided for the module is broken. Thanks for the review. Cheers.
LOVE these Multi Protocol module, I have one for my 9XR Pro. These retail Quadcopters and helicopters COME TO LIFE with a real transmitter. I keep my Module on manual select, didn't want to update my Tx firmware. CHEERS !

Nice and informative video, for which my thanks. However I have ordered stuff from Banggood, but it never seems to arrive, so very reluctant to order from them again.
I've had nearly one hundred orders with Banggood, and half that with Gearbest. When I first entered this hobby I would only use Amazon, but inevitably, as one gets deeper into it, price really starts to be an issue and price is where the Chinese companies are hard to beat. Besides a time or two where they've run short of stock, I've never had a problem. And the few times that I did, their customer service was, surprisingly, very good. I can only attribute others bad experience to their having gotten a bad representative on the phone or maybe they didn't know how to properly communicate (i.e. being nice, saying thank you).

Hi Lee, I am a model airplane pilot in the Netherlands and last week one of my friends ask me when installing this new equipment in his FrSky radio or updating the internal multiprotocol of his Radiomaster TX 16S could this influence or jeopardize the conformity of compliance of the radio's. In Europe and I think worldwide the insurance company demand the use of radio equipment that is compliant with the applicable regulations. If using not allowed equipment they tell me that you are not insured. What is your opinion?

There are a few products from iRangeX that are designed to work from the trainer port on the radio if you don't have a JR bay.. I've not used any of them here though, sorry..
looks like this one would work into the trainer port on a dx18 www.banggood.com/IRangeX-R4X-Pro-2_4G-CC2500-NRF24L01-A7105-CTRF6936-4IN1-Multiprotocol-External-TX-Module-wBattery-p-1143161.html?rmmds=search

Great topic and video. Quick question regarding the files on thingiverse. I noticed that there is a v1.0 and a v1.1. v1.0 has two pieces which makes sense to me. v1.1 has only the bay. The part that helps closing is not present. For my QX7, which version should I use?
Ion Tesu the cover needs to be printed in two parts the first part is the cover itself and the second is the clip that you'll have to glue to the back - it's the best way to make sure that the plastic doesn't give up as you're removing and snapping it home. The other cover on its own is a separate piece in case you want to have the cover with a higher antenna outlet to not be as near the rear handle . Hope that helps
Thank you makes sense. I tried to print the v1.1 file. Could not convert the stl into Gcode using Slic3r, desktop just hangs. What did you use to convert?
Hi there ! Eddie here. Thanks for a very helpful video ! I've just bought the IRangex Multi Protocol Module for my Taranis Q7 which looks similar to the one you are setting up in your video apart from the fact that is in a hard case. I've followed your advice to the letter and tried all the different Sub Settings in the Taranis but just cannot get it to Bind to a DSM2 OR DSMX Receiver. I've tried changing it from Serial mode and selected the DSM OR DSMX settings on the Module with no change. I've also tried using the Bind link in the TX but no change. Any advice would be really appreciated - as always ! Best Regards . . . Eddie.

Do you think this will fit into a DM9 case? (Looks a bit tight), I have several laying around and am without a 3D printer (I know, I like it in my cave) Anyway, thanks much and keep up the good work.
The DM9 cavity takes an over-all board size (maximum) of 55.25 mm (2.17 in) x 39.12 mm (1.54 in). There are 4 mounting "pegs" for screws that are 33.77 mm (1.33 in) on the antenna end [C-C], 21.72 mm on the opposite end [C-C] and 49.27 (1.94 in) center to center on long side. The problem is getting the DX4e/DX5e donor transmitters with the transmitter module. I have the MLP4DSM's and they are OK, just only for Park Flying. Looking for alternatives. Thanks much. Keep up the great work.
Thanks a bunch. FYI (and anyone else wondering) it is a bit more than 1mm wide and the screws for holding the DM9 together could not be used. Not worth the trouble. Again, many thanks and keep up the good work.
Hi Painless. I've just fitted this module... arrived today. Should I be concerned about the firmware on the unit? Is it possible that you could do a video to help firmware? Many thanks
i noticed a Bind option in the menu on the tranny for the external RF, will this work with this module or do you have to use the bind button?? or does it depend on the protocol you choose as to which method you can use to bind?
+locoworks the binding option is protocol dependant as mentioned in the video. See the documentation for the project linked in the description for lots more detail. Best of luck!
Just want to verify but with this module will use that extra antenna rather than the onboard antenna correct? Is there a module that will use the controller antenna? Also Will this module increase the transmit power or is it limited by the toy quad you are flying?
Help please .... I bought this with a new Q x7 but can’t get it to work. I have open Tx 2.2 but when I plug it in to the four pins and switch on the radio, nothing happens. I get no lights on the module and don’t get the 4-in-1 logo. Thanks.
Painless360 Thank you for taking the time to reply. Don't really know what to do. I checked that the up to date opentx is running. The yellow dial is set to zero so - can you suggest anything else?
+Kevin Pickard impossible for me to give suggestions without details of what you’ve done. Flashed OpenTX with the mulriprotocol support enabled? Configured the external module for Multi in the menus? Best of luck..
Have you used the iRangeX IRX4 and if so how does it compare with this one? My problem is I have no access to a 3D printer and the iRangeX IRX4 comes in a case. Thank you..... Steve *Dance the Skies*
+Route 66 Flyer I've not use that one personally, I noted that it didn't have a USB port or a bind button - the one I saw didn't. Best of luck with it.
Thanks for all the prompt replies, I'm wondering if you searched for telemetry sensors when you connected up to your orangerx. Using the irangex module I'm able to find 20 or so sensors when I connect to a spektrum 636A rx with SAFE select. It gives me a reading for signal strength and it also gives a readout for receiver voltage but then it gives a whole bunch of other readings that I have no idea what they mean. I'm also wondering what the signal strength value should be for a Spektrum Radio using the dsmx 22ms protocol. Furthermore after going out to the field to fly today my qx7 keeps yelling at me about "rf signal low" or worse yet "rf signal critical" or even worse yet "telemetry lost". The weird but good thing is that I have not lost control of the plane during any of those times. Does anyone know how to turn that warning off on the qx7?
Got a question just received my multiprotocol today i am able to bind orange dmsx "i get a solid red light" but i get no stick movement i did check the mixer order it it the same ast yours any ideas? I have my test setup with esc, motor and a battery. Thanks
Probably designed that way as many protocols don't work with fail-safe in the same was as the Taranis does.. Might be worth having a look at the project this is based on for more detail..
Is there any fix yet?! I do use the AFHDS (X6B receiver) protocol but however, it doesn't work out. Even stage2 failsafe from BF doest kill the quad after losing signal. Thanks in advance...
same issue here - could smash everthing against the wall since i cant find a solution.... Ersky on Qx7 gives you failsafe options but they do not work - firmwareupgrade with the DIY-Multiprotocol-TX-Module on github does not work as well... rly frustrating
yeah i was just thinking that too...it only uses one antenna though and i wonder about telemetry working ok, and can it do ibus, and range, hopefully some experts do the tests soon.
Yep, should work fine but only the later versions of OpenTX fully support the changes of the protocol in the menus so make sure you've updated.. Happy flying!
Yup, these 4in1's have been/are a hot commodity lately. Anyone know what kinda DSM* range (ballpark) these have? Thx for the vid! ÷*) PS: Woo-hoo! Look at the Painless 360 sticker and splash screen! COOL! ÷*)
Hello Lee, great video! How are they able to legally do this? I would assume most these protocols (i.e. DSM) are proprietary. Are they reversed engineered? Thank you

This unit is a bit slack. this won't bind the Fly Sky receivers. If you look the internet loads of issues trying to bind Fly sky. Although it says Flysky in the serial mode it's not in the menu. be warned if you are trying to bind Fly sky receivers you are wasting your money.

Not sure, I've only played with the FS i6S radio (see my videos).. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 ok
+Chad Siegmann I've not used telemetry options with any of the protocols on it, Best of luck!
Can this talk to a Futaba receiver now?
I've used it for that. See the wiki for the latest protocols supported.. Best of luck
Got a question just received my multiprotocol today i am able to bind orange dmsx "i get a solid red light" but i get no stick movement i did check the mixer order it it the same ast yours any ideas? I have my test setup with esc, motor and a battery.
Thanks
+Tommy Gunn I've not tried that yet, I don't have any dsmx receivers. Let me know what the work around is. Best of luck!
What I do not like ( i have IRange) is that after turn on MULTY - is disappear FAILSAFE in Taranis. This is not very convenient.
So now I have no excuse not to upgrade to a Taranis transmitter?! I have a fs-i6 and all my stuff so far is flysky.
yeah i was just thinking that too...it only uses one antenna though and i wonder about telemetry working ok, and can it do ibus, and range, hopefully some experts do the tests soon.
TheMadmacs good points, Pain we have another video idea for you :p
will this work with turnigy 9x
No idea, I've not tried it.. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 someone on the original post said it does so we will see
will this work with AFHDS 2A protocol please
Not sure, the firmware is improving all the time. Check the latest documentation for what supported. Best of luck
can ı bind with futaba faast
Check out the latest tips video for the Multiprorocol module where I show how to find out.. Best of luck
would this work with the taranis xd9d plus?
Yep, should work fine but only the later versions of OpenTX fully support the changes of the protocol in the menus so make sure you've updated.. Happy flying!
@@Painless360 oh, alright. will do that. thank you
hi will this work with jr propo dsx11
No idea, sorry..
nice
Yup, these 4in1's have been/are a hot commodity lately.
Anyone know what kinda DSM* range (ballpark) these have?
Thx for the vid! ÷*)
PS: Woo-hoo! Look at the Painless 360 sticker and splash screen! COOL! ÷*)
Hello Lee, great video! How are they able to legally do this? I would assume most these protocols (i.e. DSM) are proprietary. Are they reversed engineered? Thank you
I believe that they are. Check out the project wiki and other videos on modern Multiprorocol radios for more.. Happy flying
can you fix the bangood link please?
Done, not sure what was going on there but it's working now..
You called it a flying lead, I take it that uFl refers to micro flying lead no? :-)
For some reason, the 9xr opentx firmware supports this, but not the 9x. Lame
I got this one iRangeX IRX4 2.4G CC2500 NRF24L01 A7105 CTRF6936 4 IN 1 Multiprotocol STM32 TX Module With Case
www.banggood.com/IRangeX-IRX4-2_4G-CC2500-NRF24L01-A7105-CTRF6936-4-IN-1-Multiprotocol-STM32-TX-Module-With-Case-p-1197130.html
no idea how to install it yet
This unit is a bit slack. this won't bind the Fly Sky receivers. If you look the internet loads of issues trying to bind Fly sky. Although it says Flysky in the serial mode it's not in the menu. be warned if you are trying to bind Fly sky receivers you are wasting your money.
Is it possible to use this module with a JR Propo 10X Radio Transmitter?
Not sure, possibly..
