    John, as regards my very last post about the throttle being negative, I brainstormed it knowing that it was in one of the mixes. Using the monitor function, I found that it occurred in the Normal Throttle setting. I found that I added an SE Up switch setting to that, probably like the pitch setting using that switch in the Up position in Normal. Works fine now. You were absolutely right to recommend the monitor to look for problems. Sometimes I think it's not Open TX University, it's John Salt University, and I'm in the first semester! Thanks You

    Hi John, I just getting involved in computerized radios and must say I am like you, I just don't like it, programming, flashing, updating and what ever But on the contrary, if I was someone who likes dibbling around with that stuff it probably would be adventurious to say the least. I just got a Taranis QX7 and have already had a "Near-Death" experience with this unit. And with all the steps I had to go through to unbrick it, I could have programmed the space station. But after I figured out how easy it could have been if I followed the instructions from the first, I found it to be quite satasfiying to see my unit come back to life. Great Video Content My Friend I'm subscribe

      Works with OpenTX. No idea with FrOS? It should work in PPM mode, but definitely not serial mode and to be honest, using the multi module in PPM mode is very limiting; it shines however in serial mode. Confirm OS options on Muti-Module's website & forum: www.multi-module.org/basics/radio-compatibility

      You'll likely have to update the Open TX firmware in your transmitter and then enable the Multi module in the build options. I did a video on that too because my Horus was the same way (it had no multi option at first). Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/XmUIdMsBnZI/w-d-xo.html

      No idea without seeing it first hand. Have you looked over all the info on the Multi-Module website - tons of useful info on that site and a must bookmark site for all Multi-module users: www.multi-module.org/
      They have a forum as well and a link to the multi-module Git Hub page with more useful info.

    John, my setup is the same with the Horus 12, and the iRanger. I have a Blade 120S 2 and I can't get it to bind. I'm in option 7 for spektrum. The one difference I see is that the Green Light does not go out, as the protocol list says it should. Any ideas? Thanks, Jim

      Did you have the radio turned off when you made the dial selection? It won't change protocols if the module is powered up. That's about the only thing I can think of. With that said, I would switch over to serial communication ASAP. It's so much better than the dial selection method in PPM mode. I would also update to the latest version of multi-module firmware if you haven't already (1.3.1.36). It's so much easier to do now as well with the new Multi-module site. www.multi-module.org/
      Very extensive instructions and information on their site plus the awesome file filter tool allowing you to quickly get the right version of firmware for your specific radio & preferred channel mapping. Even if you don't switch over to serial mode, there is lots of good info in the Multi-Module site that may help with your specific issue.

      John, I really appreciate you being available. I've checked that multi site. It should be included with the module! As it turns out the receiver in the 120 S is acting up. I switched to my second 120 and it bound just fine using the serial side. I set it up exactly like yours on the video. everything works except the throttle is inactive.Looking at the monitor, when the stick is at 0 the monitor show -40 and moves to zero near full throttle. Must be something in the set up, but I don't see it. Thanks, Jim

      Not 100% sure. It should work in PPM mode, but pretty sure in won't work in serial mode since the Multi Protocol models to the best of my knowledge are only supported in serial by Open or Edge TX. It would be best to post this question on Multi Protocol's Website/Forum.

    and if the range is good on the multi protocol? thank you very much

    Thinking of adding this to my Flysky Nirvana & getting rid of my IRX8M multiprotocol TX.
    So if you lose that piece of paper, you're screwed? Would be nice of the protocol selection could be done in the OpenTX menu.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be done in the menu when using serial mode. This was part 1 - PPM mode operation. Part 2 is serial mode operation: th-cam.com/video/XmUIdMsBnZI/w-d-xo.html

    John, any way to use this or another module with FrOS. I'm looking to use my Horus X10s with DSMX RX's. If it works with FrOS, would it also be able to show DSMX telemetry data? I know that multi protocol modules work with OpenTX but I want to stay with FrOS because it's easier to set up a model, at least for me. ThanX

    • @Rchelicopterfun

      GitHub's page on the multi-protocol modules should have it or at least the most current list of available protocols that can be accessed in serial mode (more than in PPM mode).

      Mr. John, I tried to bind my X12S with my Spektrum plane and it bound but the controls were way off. Rudder was ailerons, ailerons were rudder...etc. The radio was in mode 2. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to use open tx and not just the IRX4 plus?

  • @zmanphx

    John I have dozen spektrum rcx and few blade helicopter s. Do you notice delay in response with the external module in ppmode? Can external run in serial mode?

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      None that I have noticed as a scale and sport flier. I used to fly all my Speky stuff with the Spekrum DM9 module and this one behaves the same. Not sure I fully understand your "Can external run in serial mode" question; but if you are asking if this module can run in serial mode, yes it can. I have a separate video on that: th-cam.com/video/XmUIdMsBnZI/w-d-xo.html

    • @zmanphx
      @zmanphx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rchelicopterfun I latency of ppm and then converting it to digital for the external module adds a layer of computing. Serial faster protocol. I am hoping Frysky will do what jumper did with having multi protocol built in with serial.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You really think that small factor of latency is noticeable for most flying skill levels?

    • @zmanphx
      @zmanphx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rchelicopterfun I noticed flying a blade 450x with yellow kabar. I was using dsmx satellite from spektrum and I felt conmected. Then bought Orange satellite dsmx that outputs ppm. On the same heli it felt duller like I had more expo. Observed on vbar software aileron and elevator would not center and needed constant trim of few points. The tail gain was drifting as much as 8 points using ppm out line to kbar .

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I never noticed anything like that on my FBL units (mostly Ikons & Bavarian Demons) and a couple flybared machines when I flew with the Speky DM9 module with Spektrum & JR Sats. As I slowly changed all my Speky & JR RX's over to FrSky RX's on my larger machines to run on the internal RF, I never noticed any difference/improvement either. Again, I'm a sport and scale flier. Perhaps hard core 3D'ers could pick up on it? :)

    How many max channels can you use with this module? I have the same Tx and also have a lot of spektrum models I have a DX8G2 would like to see if I can do more than 8 channels. Thank you.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its' protocol dependent, but to the best of my knowledge, DSM2 or X on the iRangeX IRX4 will support up to 12 channels. That is just going by memory on what I read in several forum threads several months back; I've personally never used mine on anything greater than an 8 channel model and it worked fine with 8ch. Github should also have the max supported channels for the various protocols in their DIY multi TX module section which I link to in the description.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Guess I didn't explain it clear enough in the video? These things allow you to control multiple protocols (many different RC brand RXs) with one single radio (TX).

    • @arniesbox
      @arniesbox 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To add more to John's explanation:
      It allows you to bind a "proper" transmitter to those "toy" level drones and helis that come with their own controller - hear John's comment around 1m:04 and see the selection of models he has on the RH side of the workbench; that type of model.
      These can use several different protocols so this allows you to work through them until the model responds.
      This can be used on e.g. this type of drone:
      www.dronesdirect.co.uk/p/pfbd103/proflight-box-drone-indoor-protective-bumper-drone
      .... comes with a controller who's sticks are so short it's almost impossible for someone with adult fingers to control enough to be flyable.
      Being able to use the longer stick throw and variable rates and expo available on a "proper" transmitter allows this size of drone to convert from an "0-100% in 3mm of stick movement" almost impossible-to-fly state to something that can be confidently flown around furniture and light fittings.
      With a similar controller to my example model's, I somewhat overcame the short stick throw by tapping a thread and using a couple of 3cm machine screws to extend the sticks, but that still doesn't give me the rate and expo features available on a full size TX.

    This module has a range of several meters?

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If that's a question, RF range is dependent on many factors (type of RX, antenna placement, antenna direction/orientation, antenna polarization, diversity, environmental conditions, etc.) Certainly much more than a few meters. More like many hundred if not thousand + meters when paired with a full range RX.
