You hit the nail on the head, each PERSON will have that EXACT feel of the ROD that’s PERFECT for THEM!!
You’ll know it when it hits your hand, mine was a rod from watching several videos on winter time soft tick bite, the creator kept emphasizing the SENSITIVITY of your rod and having been out of the market for several years, a lot had in rod development, so I did my due diligence and found what I was looking for, it fit like a glove!
One HINT on NEW rod PURCHASE--ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS bring the REEL you are looking to pair it with and put it on or if you’re doing a complete combo purchase, as them for the reel you want to go on the rod! Any TRUE TACKLE SHOP will completely relate to why you’d want that done! May you find your glove!

I've heard some say that 7' is better for kayak fishing so the fish can get around the front of the boat. Good point about landing a fish with a shorter rod, I've been using a 6' lately and its much easier to land a fish than the 7'.

My favorite yak rod is a five-foot spinning rod, believe it or not. If I lean forward a bit, I can clear the bow of my 12-foot kayak if a fish circles around that way. The little rod is medium power -- handles decent-sized fish -- casts with extreme accuracy, and it's a featherweight compared to my other rods.

Great points! I too like using shorter rods from the yak in the 6'6" to 6'8" range. My popping cork rod is longer like yours at 7' because I needed that extra distance to get my leader above the marsh grass line when I am anchored to the grass wall. I do prefer rear grip lengths in the 9-10" range from butt to reel seat because the length just rests against the meaty part of my right forearm well when I am fighting a fish and using my left arm with the paddle to help guide the kayak away from structure. I custom built all my rods on the Rainshadow Immortal series (popping, casting and spinning built out as casting). Thanks for video!

Depends on the Kayak as well, Hobie PA's are pretty easy to stand up and cast in.

Great video bud! I took my kayak out for the first time yesterday (03/04/23). Obviously it was to get in some fishing time but also to figure out what works well and what doesn't. I went with my 6' rod and it has a short handle...I figured out very quickly how tight a kayak can be and I'm definitely going to stick with that combo. Keep the videos coming brother! The information is on point for a newbie like myself!

Just wanted to say thanks for all of your great videos. I bought a Lost Sparrow T-shirt and green Lost Sparrow decal for my Compass kayak from Caleb at the Houston fishing show. You helped me pick out a dark green decal. I regret not introducing myself and thanking you in person. Keep up the great work and don’t let the haters get you down.

Hey Mike: Your points are bang on! Just wanted to vouch for short spinning rods too. Measured from my spinning reel's stem, my 6'6" Fenwick HMG rod handle is 11" to the heel and 3-½" in front, perfect for kayak fishing (with four fingers kept in front of the stem). When reeling and net landing (mainly bass and northern pike) I hold it braced solidly against my arm. No need to touch my life jacket, chest or stomach. No need to re-position my hand up the rod. Works like a charm. (2' handle on my net).

Thank you! I don’t use spinning reels often but I would definitely go the same route on those if I were to use them.

Length.... yup.... had a long cork handled rod and actually cut part of it off and put a rubber chair leg cover cap on it ,,,, fit perfectly . In my crate I keel my rods only on my left side Casting with my right .... kept forgetting and hitting the right side rods ....very informative video...

Helpful video! What I like is that if you wade fish and kayak you don’t have to buy different rods because they can be used for both! Those short butt rods are versatile

The type of kayak you're using is also an important thing to consider. If you're fishing from a cramped boat, then a compact rod will be more important than it would be if you're fishing from a wide open fishing kayak. I use a 6'6" baitcaster when I'm seated, but I'll use a 7'3" heavy casting rod when I'm standing in my Bonafide and frog fishing.

@@TexasFishingForce give them a try Texas veterans up in Magnolia i think. TX Angler and MDLR use them on Kayaks. I have one love it.

    Great video. All valid points.
If your opinions in this video don’t stir the pot enough, try making a “best fishing kayak” and just wait for everyone to get rowdy lol

I don't agree . I respect your opinion maybe try a longer handle on your net. When I was a lad fishing in the boat with my dad we used to use short boat rods because we don't have to cast that far. We are on the water. 😀
