  • I breakdown the NSR Porsche 917k of Area 51 Raceway! Jorge sent me a couple of his cars to test out on my track, but something went wrong and I didn't get to test very many laps. Let's tear the car down and see what makes it fast! #slotcarracing #slotcars #nsrporsche917k

Don’t worry about it having a motor go out. It’s all good Stuff happens. I’m sorry it went south on you while you had it. I trust you with the car. Great video!!👍👌

I love this car. I have ordered one of my own, in a different livery.

Love what you’re doing Marty! Pretty awesome of Area 51 to send you a car to showcase on your track and break down to see how they tune theirs. Killer opportunity. It’s unfortunate the car went south on you but I dig this type of content. I’m just a hobbyist but would love to go to the next level, the community is great about sharing knowledge but sometimes there is almost an overwhelming amount of info that it’s hard to process, so I appreciate you coming in on the ground floor for us average guys still on that semi entry level. I greatly appreciate your contribution to the hobby!!

Yes, Jay! It is a great livery! I would love to get a Gulf livery version of it.

There's a good few of us on the same page when it comes to these classic designs :). In terms of colour I think you'll find this shade more 'Piper' green or maybe Park green which works nicely on this model. British Racing Green is, traditionally, a somewhat darker shade. I'm not overly fastidious and this just comes from being born and raised in the UK -lol. In terms of the motor sparking then I suspect there's dirt between the rotating brass commutator and the carbon brushes causing a short? The old motors from Scalextric I remember as a kid were open and easily serviceable. I've not tried to service one of these modern short cans and I suspect the 'modern' answer is to simply swap it out as they are cheap enough - particularly because we don't want to risk damaging the chip or other electronics. The pink one from NSR has replaced these older orange badged units - now at a slightly higher rpm but you may also like to try the blue 25k rated part. I see you guys in the States have ready access to 25k Predator motors (with ball bearings) and a lot of guys are subbing these into Thunderslot cars and so these would be some of the many available choices. I've not seen anyone do a video with anyone comparing lap times with all these mounted in the same car?

Darren, I appreciate the clarification on the green :) I believe you are correct on the motor. I am swapping it out with the same motor. I think that test would be fun, to see the impact of the motor and drivability. I believe you would see a drop off in performance at some point as you go up in rpm’s.. because the car would be impossible to drive as fast as it is capable. I may work on that idea. Thanks as always! -Marty

I am thinking about a Mosler. Do I want the AW or SW?

Steve, my friend Jon Mark brought his new Mosler over to the track 2 weeks ago. We didn’t get a chance to really tune the car properly. On my track, I am leaning toward Side winders… but I have yet to test an Angle Winder, but my brother has a couple and we have not been able to get them tuned quite as well.. the long cam motors are super quick. Give us some time and I might change my mind. My 908 is a SW and Jon Mark’s Mosler is a SW… and you can tell it is going to be a rocket once we get it tuned. I don’t think you would be disappointed with either in a Mosler.
