I really don’t see a problem with valve banning Sean from the verge. It’s not like valve is asking people to not report on some serious story like abuse or misconduct. They simply asked not to report personal thoughts on the game yet, he didn’t respect that and now he’s banned. Seems like an appropriate response to me.

To me, the problem with the Verge reporting on Deadlock was not that they ignored Valve's flimsy "Hey guys be cool and like...don't share this game", but the perverse glee with which Tom Warren was flaunting the coverage on his socials. He was acting like he had gotten one over on Valve since it "wasn't technically an NDA". Cover the game all you want, that's fine since you didn't sign anything legally binding. But when you're gleefully prancing about on social media, calling Valve suckers for not putting up an NDA, that just rubs me the wrong way.

When a company tells reviewers they can only say good things about a product, we like that. When they politely ask that you not generate hyperbole around a product that may not even end up existing, we lash out like edgy teens with a god complex.

Ralph is defs NOT the target demo for Stormgate, even if it didn't have it's rocky EA launch. If a game is not a character action game that pushes 'modernity' and 'inclusiveness' they don't give it the time of day.

Perhaps that was the plan all along.
But the story for 3 wasn’t that bad people just blindly hate it. I loved too, but it’s got the same stand up wacky humor 3 does the only difference is 3 hits you with it 100% of the time. 3 more than makes up for that annoyance by easily having the best gameplay of the entire series. (Btw I love 2 and it’s my favorite in the series, but saying it’s so much better than 3 is just false.)

You're right in that much of B3's writing isn't really any different from B2's, but the main story of B3, at least the parts centred around the twins *is* that bad, and I can tell you why.
They get satire backwards. Satire is meant to take an ordinary thing and exaggerate it until it's ridiculous. That's how satire makes its criticisms of the thing. B3 wants to be satire, but it takes a ridiculous and exaggerated setting, and then puts something ordinary into it that makes it more like the ordinary world - Twitch streamers.
The ripple effects of this are wild. The world of Borderlands was never meant to be taken seriously, but now it's really hard to suspend your disbelief to be in it because it's impossible to understand why a world like Pandora's would ever have a time or place for something like streaming. You can't take the villains seriously because their rise to power is entirely incomprehensible and lacking the barest sense of logic (in a way that yes, is distracting even in a Borderlands game). Why would psychos follow twitch streamers? Why would they allow themselves to be controlled by them when the whole original concept of the psycho bandit camps was that they were lawless and followed nobody? If it was brainwashing, why have the twitch-stream bullshit? If the twitch-stream was the brainwashing agent, how does that work?
The whole idea is malformed and the answers to these questions cannot be found because of one simple reason: The only reason why the streaming bullshit exists in B3 is because the creative directors of the game do not like streamers and wanted to make them the bad guys. It did not matter whether it fitted the game or not. Because of this, the spell that prevents us from thinking too hard about Borderlands is broken. The presence of something that can only exist on Earth's internet within a world that is meant to have nothing to do with earth fucks us up so much that we are pulled out of the absurd logic of Borderlands and forced to ask a million questions about this internet thing instead of enjoying the game. The cherry on the cake is that the imitation of twitch streamer culture is just disastrously inaccurate, so not only is this whole setup nonsense, but it's nonsense that doesn't even know how to complain about the thing it hates properly, and if the logical gymnastics from before didn't fuck up the game for you, then this surely will.
It really is that bad. I cannot explain in enough words how bad it is.

Tango Gameworks/Hi-Fi Rush coming back from the dead is the biggest shock story of the year after the previous shock story of the year... them closing. Very great to see, even in spite of Krafton being the publisher to buy them. It is... acceptable.
I would rather them than Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP sitting in the Microsoft vault going to waste.

They had no clue what they were doing when it comes to fan-service. Jack Black as Claptrap seems like the only really thoughtful casting decision the movie made.

Kind of a weird comparison to the Street Fighter movie, since Capcom still makes millions in royalties from the movie. Plus it gave us "For me, it was a Tuesday" and Raul Julia flying around shooting lightning and quoting the Bible. More apt to compare it to Mortal Kombat Annihilation which tried so hard to just stuff the screen with game characters, it forgot to have a story.
My main question about Borderlands is this: Why is Eli Roth still able to get a job making movies? I can't think of one thing he's made that was any good.

I remember Pitchfords meltdown with Duke Nukem Forever and am not surprised that he has learned NOTHING since then.
Dealing internally with negative reception (or ignoring it) is part of the job but it seems Pitchford, Emil Pagliarulo and Neil Druckmann feel as if they can lump 'haters' into a convenient enemy and use their professional privilege inappropriately to air their aggression and claim it's to protect their 'team'. Possesive, egotistical, and pathetic behavior.

I went to the Borderlands movie because for some reason I like seeking out catastrophic movies. About 5 minutes before the movie started I checked my phone and about 70% of the theater was sold out, including the entire row I sat on. By the time the movie started, maybe only 30% of the people actually showed up. I have never in my life seen so many people who bought tickets to a movie just not show up, probably due to word of mouth.
It was also very funny that the guy who sat next to me and was obviously a huge fan of the games, also had a shirt, became progressively more and more quiet as the movie went on. I felt bad for the dude, I thought it was hilarious though.
it's fake people buying seats, aka, The Studio hires 3rd party companies to 'buy' seats to movies to make them seem more successful than they actually are. See; Captain Marvel for one example of this.

I agree with you and anyone else that feels the same way about this matter. It seems that most people nowadays have no code of honor anymore. Another indie announcement this week: Alabaster Dawn, the next game from the devs of the 2018 indie darling Crosscode. Think top-down Zelda game structure with both combat and puzzles turned up to 11. Devs have been working on this game with regular dev blogs since before COVID. Very excited for it! No release date yet.

I said it jokingly to a friend, but with Borderlands Movie and other upcoming Movie adaptations of games, this feels like a Uwe Boll 2.0 Era.

Hi-fi Rush was my favorite game in years since Elden Ring. I replayed it multiple times and got all of the achievements and collectibles and I never once got tired of it.
So when I heard Tango was getting shut down for all the wrong reasons I genuinely felt depressed for a while. But months later on my birthday I saw the news and I AM STILL SO HAPPY. BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT EVER!

I got block by Tom Warden for calling him out for being completely disingenuous about the whole situation. I also played Deadlock, I won't go into details because I'm not a Verge employee, but there is a reason why Valve did not walk people sharing anything. The Verge broke Valve's trust and I hope they're blacklisted from any beta access or previews in the future. It's because of them that I won't be surprised if Valve doesn't do anything like this anymore.
