    With RBR, surviving a stage feels like an accomplishment. Rallysimfans adding a season mode in the latest version is great, I look forward to them bringing more classes and allowing non standard stages to be used. VR in RBR is absolutely wild, doing a rallysimfans online rally in VR is just so great.
    EA WRC I still find fun, but there is no sense of danger in it like RBR.

      EA WRC is almost UNPLAYABLE in VR with 3080+5800x3d+Pico4, yet in RBR RSF I have absolutely amazing clarity, so yes... even in graphic department RBR is much better.

      dr2.0 feels way more dangerous than WRC too, you clip the side? Puncture. Sense of speed is great too in cockpit/dash. You're also constantly fighting the road/bumps/camber too. You need to be very careful going over the massive jumps/bumps. In WRC, it feels like all stages are tarmac with different graphics on top. You cannot flow into cambers like 2.0, it's one of the most glaring issues for me.

It managed to destroy my favourite features of the 'game' (varied, uncomplicated 'career', online dailies) and left me with underwhelming visuals for 2024 (not to mention the stuttering and horrible 'fog' effect) and a damage model that takes all the fun out of actually achieving anything.

    I have to point out an error a lot of people seem to make when talking about Unreal Engine. UE is unbelievably good at graphics, and can produce photorealism. The reason EA WRC looks the way it does is mainly because of the artists working on the game. And also when you use an engine like UE, it doesn't have as much of an inate "look" as people seem to think. You have a lot of options to play with, and the artist will play a huge role.
    Just look at the some of the newest stages in RBR. They use the same engine, but the artists manage to create, at times, photorealism out of the same engine used for the original stages.

    • @imagineracer
      @imagineracer  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So I don't blame Unreal Engine for worse graphics (I've seen what its potential is capable of). What I mean in the video is that due to the transition to a new engine, EA WRC is very poorly optimized and there were many bugs when the game was launched.
      If Codemasters had continued working with Ego (the engine they had been working with for over ten years), these problems might not have happened. And previous experience would have allowed them to achieve a better result. But this is all just talk. We don't know what's going on inside the company, and what state the company is in now.
      Everyone complains that after the company was bought by EA, the quality of Codemasters products became worse.

    Ive never tried RBR, but IMO, the handling and physics in EA WRC feels more realistic and detailed than both Dirt Rally 2.0 and WRC 10.
    The graphics in EA WRC also adds a lot to the immersion, with relatively high level of detail in terrain and foilage, natural looking colors, and good lighting. IMO by far the best graphics i have seen in any rally game.
    My main complaint about EA WRC is that it doesnt get very dark at night. Another thing is that the game seem a bit too fogiving when you change to "hardcore damage" (which is supposed to be "realistic"). This being said, im sure rally cars are built to be much stronger than your average family car, so maybe im just underestimating it..?
    As for all the complaints about optimization, this game has pretty detailed graphics compared to other rally titles, so it obviously requires at least a mid range pc to give a decent experience. With my old RX 6600 XT gpu, i thought it was barely playable after i turned down graphics extensively. I now got a Ryzen 9 7900, 4080 Super, 64GB DDR5, and at 1440p native resolution, with maxed settings, im still only getting around 60fps. However, settings car reflections and shadows to ultra low takes it up to around 115 (on average, in cocpit view, on the Monte Alloradu track in Rally Mediteraneo, with "overcast dry" weather). With further tweaking (see settings below) i get around 160fps on average (135 in areas with lots of buildings), while still looking MUCH better than both WRC 10 and Dirt Rally 2.0.
    Basic settings:
    Resolution - 1440p
    Anti Aliasing - High
    Anisotropic filtering - 8x
    DLSS - Ultra performance
    HDR - Off (im not sure what performance impact this has, but if i turn this on, i cant adjust various settings on my monitor, so i prefer to have it turned off)
    Advanced settings:
    Shadows - Ultra low
    Fog - On
    Particles - High
    Weather - Ultra low
    Crowd - Low
    Ground Cover - High
    Trees - High
    Dynamic objects - High
    Car reflections - Ultra low
    Post processing quality - High

      There are as many opinions as there are people. I am convinced once again. Thank you for your opinion.
      I think the graphics in Dirt Riley 2.0 are undeniably better. The atmosphere that DR 2.0 creates feels more real. It's like good acting that draws you into the world of a great movie. I also like how the behavior of sun rays and reflections is implemented in DR 2.0. I have now RX 6800 XT and AMD R7 7800X3D.
      In DR 2.0 everything is on maximum. In EA WRC everything is also on ultra, except for cars reflections. I also saw a video with fpc lifehack about this.
      "High level of detail in terrain and foilage (in EA WRC)" - by the way, the behavior of the foliage and especially the grass, I have a big complaint about this. The behavior of the grass creates the feeling that it's algae and you are at the bottom of the ocean. In DR 2.0, this is also not ideal. Perhaps we'll see improvements in the behavior of the grass in the new generations of rally games.

    there is a way to express the physics quantifiably. it is proven that codemasters' games cars do not turn from the front tires. simple! you can prove it any test. The one thing I dont like is the RBR grip levels. Even if I set the stage and weather as good as it can, and change the setup, I struggle to believe a modern rally downforce monster, with advanced suspension and modern tyre compounds is gonna have such little grip
    I can believe it from an old 70s RWD shitbox, but a $550k Rally1 car? I have my doubts
    Regarding WRC, too much grip most the time. If DR2.0 had better tarmac physics/FFB and a tad less grip overall, it would be much closer to RBR

      @imagineracer  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree with you. That's why I rarely choose Rally1 cars in RBR. In my opinion, the most good and accurate cars made here are Rally2 and Group A cars, I drive them 95% of the time.
      Yep, EA WRC, "too much grip most the time", agreed as well.

    • @usefulidiot21
      @usefulidiot21 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I've heard other people say that too, but I've never thought that Rally1 cars in RBR lack grip. It all comes down to the surface you're driving on, just like in real life. Different types of tarmac and gravel/dirt have different levels of grip and the surface bumpiness actually matters in RBR. I've never played a game that simulates real life as well as RBR does in regards to that. I think that other games are too predictable and safe with their grip levels throughout the stages (other than the Monte Carlo stages in DR 2.0, but the tarmac physics hurt that). That's just going from my 20 years of riding atv's offroad and onroad in all types of weather conditions when I was younger and then daily driving Subaru STI's for the last 15 years. So that's the game I prefer to match what I've experienced.

    • @LucarioVz
      @LucarioVz 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @usefulidiot21 i do know that RBR is the only rally sim that simulates different surfaces, afaik the grip changes in function of the firmness (? of the gravel for example (firm gravel has better grip than soft gravel) but still, sometimes grip feels like it's just a tad too low. Don't know if it was legit but I read RSF people are working on NGP 8 already. Looking forward to that

    I think the people who find EA WRC better than 2.0 is because in WRC it's more forgiving than in 2.0. People don't understand momentum and how the bumps can affect how the car handles and they think that since it being a race car, it's supposed to handle like an F1 car on dirt. In EA WRC, there's been many times that I broke late into a corner and I felt like I should have been sent off the track. But instead, it stops me on a dime.

    crazy how my experience was exactly the opposite! RBR with direct drive was a nightmare, the wheel behaves completely weird and clips all the time, it is completely undrivable! On the other hand EA WRC felt natural at first, even though a bit arcady and terrible on tarmac, but the cars and the FFB behaved exactly as I expected. Yes EA WRC damage is a joke and the crash system 100% arcade, but in the career mode crashes become a lot more unforgiving (not RBR level though) and the game feels much more immersive, dynamic weather and competitors is a joy. That said, my first RBR experience was shocking, I hated how the FFB behaved and it seems it will destroy my DD base from that much clipping. RBR is becoming a nightmare to setup and even though I don't think you all RBR fans like @Jimmy_Broadbent are lying but it takes a h. of a effort to play this game, makes me wonder why the modders don't just simply create a accessible game from scratch and charge a good deserved 40 bucks for it, damn I'd even pay for someone to setup RBR for me I can't deal with the game trying to explode my wheel base every time.

    This is a really weird review
    As someone who spent almost 300 hours in EA WRC over the year I'll comment on some things you either got wrong or misrepresented.
    I will not comment on the physics of the cars as I am not actually familiar with RBR or IRL rally car handling.
    I will however say that you firstly for some reason talk about damage models twice in the video, secondly don't seem to mention the fact that WRC has 2 damage models (normal and hardcore, same as it was in DR2.0), thirdly definetely don't say that the hardcore damage model while not as punishing as would be most realistic, still is pretty damn punishing, as a little mistake most likely will cost you a lot of time and will strongly impact the cars performance, so that you may lose several minutes to the competition.
    Also the visual damage model while not perfect, is much better than a lot of modern racing games, and we shouldn't really expect beam-ng-like soft-body damage models in games for quite some time still.
    EA WRC is definetely not well optimised, though having a lot of (relatively) highres textures with hindreds of kilometers of stages taking up less than 100gb is impressive as dr2.0 had like half of that take up 120gb, which i guess is why they moved tto unreal engine. I do hope that they get more accustomed to unreal and make either this or the next game more stable and optimised.
    Also you just did not mention the fact EA WRC has a built in livery editor, which, while pretty basic, does let you create awesome liveries, and that also you could insert custom liveries into the game files with some tech knowledge.
    The online aspect does not live via quick play online, all the semi-serious competitions are done using Racenet clubs, and there are communities with a lot of those, so it is definetely alive and kicking.
    Lastly: RBR I think is not available on console, which is important for many (also you couldnt download tracks, cars and liveries there anyways), while EA WRC has full cross-platform support via the aforementioned Racenet.
    So yeah, I get it, the main thing is the car handling, and from what I know, RBR blows the competition out of the water, still it only lives because of communities and modders, has no really interesting singleplayer gamemodes and the quality of content is highly reliant on the mod author.
    There is definetely still a lot to work on with EA WRC for codies, but there also is a lot of fun to be had in their game.

So you have a game from 10 years ago that people are still playing today, thanks to the moderators, an example is Colín McRae has been released one after the other, improved but they do not take more than 2 years to release another and another. Oh my god... the all time classic "damage model" argument of RBR... let's explain to the absolute brick brained people online how video game development works...
    In racing games the devs need to get the approval of the MANUFACTURERS OF THE CARS for the damage models and how damage will work in game... in the case of RBR the game is NOT an official game, doesn't now have VALID official licenses, it doesn't exist in popular mainstream platforms and the manufacturers don't give a f*** what the damage model is... in EA WRC on the other hand it's an officially licensed game where the manufacturers have CLEARLY STATED that they want the damage model to be minimalistic and not show the cars being destroyed easily. The devs from Codemasters have even stated that "this is not the damage model we ideally would want, it's the one we can have". But somehow RBR fanboys will have this as a huge "plus" for their game... well, it's because only RBR is so old and insignificant to modern car manufacturers that it's the only rally game that CAN have that damage model geniuses...
    Seriously, how many more people are gonna use the "damage model" argument when the answer is extremely simple and has NOTHING to do with devs or video game design... sure, Assetto Corsa has a shit damage model for the exact same reason (manufacturer licenses)... in Assetto Corsa you can run your car to a brick wall at 250kph and it will barely be damaged visually... is it not a sim too? Or because it's not from a big time studio and it has the reputation of a sim it gets a pass? No modern racing game can have a realistic damage model... PERIOD!
    EA WRC is a good rally simulator IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A RALLY CAR... most people I've seen that actually give "opinions" on the game they run their cars 150 miles off the road, they have no proper rally technique, they don't know how to brake or throttle manage to make the car powerslide, they don't know if or when they should use the handbrake, they don't know to keep the car at a higher gear to be smoother with their driving inputs and also drive faster out of corners... seriously... if you don't know shit about driving, why do you give your opinion about a DRIVING GAME?
    I have nothing against Imagine Racer, he was being fair in what he's saying outside the damage thing which is a bullshit argument... but this has been a constant with EA WRC since the day it came out... people say it has too much grip cause they can't powerslide to save their lives (yes it has something like 3-5% more grip than it should but that's VERY LITTLE)... other people say the cars don't turn while they're trying to turn the car like they're on a race track driving a GT car... seriously... rally driving and race track driving is NOT the same, not even close...
    RBR is a great game but it's also a very very old game... which means that the immersion is godawful cause of the old graphics which I'm sorry but it's a HUGE thing, especially if you have a beefy PC and while the physics are great there is one big flaw in them. Modern cars in RBR behave like they were made 30 years ago... modern cars in RBR are way too twitchy out of the corner if you're being aggressive because modern rally cars irl are smooth af out of the corner which is why modern rally drivers barely have any crashes and can run smoothly almost every stage because of modern car technology and modern tyre technology... in RBR if you drive a modern Hyundai rally car you feel like you're driving McRae's Impreza from 1995 in terms of behavior because the way I see it the game treats both cars as 4WD cars which is kinda bullshit cause comparing a 1995 or even the 2000s Impreza with a modern Hyundai i20 WRC is laughable in terms of performance and on road behavior...
    Also, THANK YOU Imagine Racer... finally someone that understands what Unreal Engine is and why it actually SUCKS for racing games... Unreal Engine should NEVER be used for a racing game because it's very heavy and renders way too slowly especially for a rally game that the engine needs to render a shitload of trees and environments very very fast... They should have developed a new engine of their own... Unreal Engine was the absolute worse choice... just look at Assetto Corsa Evo and how gorgeous it looks while ACC on Unreal Engine struggles with performance and looks like shit most of the time compared to how much VRAM it uses...
    Anyway, EA WRC is a waaaaaay better game than people give it credit for and an actual proper rally sim IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A RALLY CAR
    Sorry for the huge comment...

      Wrong. EA WRC has extremely high grip levels, not just a little bit. And this becomes obvious when you see the replays. It looks like a Mario Kart game, totally arcade. The cars have no weight at all and move in extremely toyish ways. On the other hand, real modern rally cars are WAY more twitchy than they are in RBR. You are totally wrong. Watch my video "Proof that RBR/NGP hairpin physics are on point" for evidence that real modern rally cars are as nervous and tail-happy as they are in RBR. Then, watch Mikkelsen's onboard at the CER rally at night which was recently uploaded to the WRC channel. That car is incredibly twitchy in ways you will not experience in RBR, let alone in arcade games like EA WRC. Real WRC drivers don't crash because they are world-class and orders-of-magnitude better than you'll ever be. As simple as that. What they do is way harder than EA WRC arcade stuff, and even harder than RBR. Period.
      Also, are you saying that the Impreza 555 and the i20 WRC have similar performance and behavior in RBR? You must be trolling, or have badly-configured input devices. In no way or shape does the 555 get close to the i20 WRC performance-wise, nor behavior wise. The i20 WRC is a grip monster and you feel it in RBR. If it does get close for you, skill issue.
      And then, the argument that "RBR is old" is wrong. RBR has been reverse-engineered to its core. They have modified the binaries and revamped the entire thing, most importantly the physics engine. It's as modern as it gets, and has added features that simracers from other games can only dream about. Nikolay Gryazin uses it to train for real life, watch his channel. Tons of amateurs and professional drivers have already settled this argument: there's nothing more realistic than RBR.

    RBR ain't a "sim" it's just harder due to the damage model, EA WRC is far better to actually drive out of the box than RBR. And though i do agree, that the off tacks in wrc are far to forgiving, you can allways just turn on hardcore damage🤷‍♂

      Wrong, RBR is the one and only rally sim. It's proven as the most realistic by world-class WRC drivers like Nikolay Gryazin, Teemu Suninen. and Kalle Rovanperä.

      @@PS3DEADMAN69 The difference is that RBR is a dead game, with no commercial interest behind it and that is supported by independent modders who make the cars, sounds, physics and stages. What you are sending is an EA advertorial with reactions that they have surely been asked by contract to be positive.
