I really enjoyed the on foot conflict zones, but the frame rate I am getting is sub 20 fps and it really grinds my gears. Realy hoping they do some major optimisations in this regard before the full release, since it's really damn fun.
This needs to be way up. No point in making a fun gameplay if absolute majority of PCs can barely run it @ 30 fps (or downscale the resolution by 0.5). In my opinion optimisation should be their number one priority now. I can say for myself that my willingness to test the alpha is almost zero precisely because of the framerates.
Absolutely agree but I'm not going to beat them up for it, yet anyway. I flew down to a planet in VR and my framerate was so bad I couldn't take it. I too am really enjoying it but it is pretty limited.
@@cmdrmaskime Horizons was the same. It took like 3-6 months until it went from 15-20 fps to 60+ on my behalf. I bet my corvette that it will be the same this time around...
@@DavidUtau yeah I can imagine they need time for optimisations. I’m just surprised I didn’t have issues at all since the launch of the alpha. And I don’t have the best gamer PC! Anyway, bot complaining :)
Yeah I’m having a blast. I happened upon one by chance and was pleasantly surprised. Many many glitches and crashes but to be expected. The AI is bland... not sure what else to say. I can see many many future battles as ships fly in to shoot on foot players and other ships take them out. I imagine a battle zone of ground and air battles going on. Seems like endless possibilities. Can’t wait to dumbfire the enemy from my ship and drop mines on them. We need to be able to at least walk the cockpit of our ships tho.
Well, like I said earlier: "Indeed, I remember on a few places that some of those that I were siding with, they were practically pressed up against the "outer" door, (from the inside), essentially jamming/locking them. (fortunately, those times where I saw that happen, they were only blocking 1 of 2 entrances/exits). Apparently, the AI were unaware that it's still closed"
They're really wonky in open, I get a lot of instancing problems so far. Ticker won't move til I relog or the battle will take forever to initiate. Minor network issues it seems really, not worried overall. Did a High intensity CZ and you're right they seem like sponges but all my gear is unengineered which I'm sure makes as big a difference as with ships. I'm close to upgrading a couple things but having trouble finding certain things like manufacturing instructions for example. Absolutely LOVE the new lighting and having ships again. Enjoying the hell out of the CZs overall, even in such an early state.
It was a blast to be in this Theater of war ! -I was expecting high intensity to be harder, I think they need a buff. -I was expecting to be in the same dropship as my friend , we never managed to make it, did you guys ? -it was fantastic to fight and see the vultures flying around. For the first time I felt « the sphere of combat ». Thank you Frontier, Odyssey is absolutely brillant !

There are already some non-combat missions from the first phase, namely scavenging/theft and restoring settlements. More is coming in phase 3 as that'll give us the exploration suit and tools. So in short yeah, there is some non-pew pew but it's mostly pew pew
@@Exigeous I'm afraid that in procedurally generated world it can be hard to put some entertaining content that won't be a bit repetitive and eventually boring. Also I have the feeling that Odyssey will focus mostly on the bubble leaving less features for the rest of the galaxy.

Probably a really late reply lol but press E to check the aftermath report, then press E again to call the shuttle. It’ll confirm it with ‘Leaving combat zone in 15 secs’
I'm optimistic combat will be more spontaneous less orchestrated. Rather be exploring or hunting for valuables and running to tissue than play battlefield. I don't want to play a game inside a game I hope it all works together.
God, my first on foot CZ was some of the most fun i've had in quite a long time, ever since the wonder of melting bounties with engineered ships lost its' initial adrenalin rush (but it is still fun, imo)
As someone who is waiting on feedback from those in the alpha phase before purchasing it (being temporarily laid off means funds are tight, and truthfully, I'm not a fan of doing alpha testing)... Is there a wait to get to the combat zone, or is it more of an instant thing? What happens if you die, do you respawn there at the combat zone?
@ Exigeous, technical feedback for video: the music is a bit too loud, and sometime ~almost~ drowns out your voice. Maybe hard to notice if English is your first language, but I definitely had to concentrate more then usual to get everything. (I did not had to reply anything, though, so I guess for the majority of your viewers it's just fine.) No critique here, just feedback. ;) o7 P.S.: otherwise nice video, as always. :)
you can also join the fun with srv and surface ship combat, although surface ship combat is not much challanging not sure why the ai are brainless most of the time but killing a ship i believe will drain 100 points for the enemy, and combat bond rewards are the same as signal souce conflict zones
Im a bit confused and curious here. Dont play the alpha myself, so might have missed out the obvious here. But as i understand it, phase2 should implement the sphere of combat. Which, as i understand it, supposedly ment that it should be possible to fight onfoot, ships and srv´s on the same battleground. Is this the case, or is it not possible in phase 2? And IF it’s possible, how is it Working, whats the experience and could you make a video about it? Thats in my opinion one of the greatest features regarding fps in odyssey.
It is the case with a few exceptions - you'll get focused heavily in an SRV and while your shields are pretty strong you won't last all that long. The real issue for me is it's WAY too easy in that it's not even fun. As for ships the same, right now since our ships are all unengineered you won't last long against the settlement weapons, which you can turn off from the ground. In the High Intensity ones there are a number of ships flying around that would also be attacking you. So once launched this will be possible to some degree but IMHO won't really be fun.
Wish could give feedback.. buuut my canadian ass can't afford the Expac yet.. 46 Canadian rubiles.. but thats bread and cereal and meat for a week.. so game vs food.. food winds disability income is honestly enforced poverty.. enough to survive.. not enough to live.. or thrive..
I'm sure your Odyssey videos have a lot of useful information in them, and I wish I could watch them, but the background music is to loud while you are speaking. I have tinnitus, which make it hard to hear what you are saying over the music. I had to stop watching at the 2.00 mark, I was jamming to the music, but couldn't understand a word you were saying, Other than that it is a good video. And it's just in the new Odyssey videos. I have watched a lot of your other vids with no issues at all. Also I'm not saying the music is bad, it's actually quite good.
Was hoping Odyssey would pull me back into the game, but nothing I’ve seen does it for me so far. Walking around the station is nice as would of been walking round your ship. But just feels like they’ve bolted on a fps mini game to stay inline with Star Citizen and gone off on a complete tangent.
On foot in Elite in in their kickstarter from 2012 and mentioned it was coming in dev videos. So no, not bolted on to 'stay inline'. ED is being developed like every other online game in history.
You need to do the actual in-game tutorials or something. This game hates holding your hand so much that they probably debated not giving you hands at all.
My take on dropships: Can you imagine Imperial enthusiasts being dropped by a Fed Dropship or core Republicans/Feds delivered by Cutter? As I agree that Vulture is probably not the best choice, we simply have to also admit: we do not have enough good, faction-agnostic vessels. I hope this was the reason to pick feisty Vulture. They could have actually modeled quickly a transport ship that is not used in the game, as it is anyways awkward transition, from the cockpit to the drop cabin. You could actually travel all the way in a drop cabin (as normal soldiers do) to make it more "Immmmmmerrrrrsssivvve" Thoughts?
While I haven’t played the alpha myself as I have little desire to pay extra to be an alpha tester, I have to say the level of bullet sponge involved in FPS combat is not inspiring much confidence... I really want Odyssey to be good but I’m not sure if I can see myself enjoying it much in it’s current state. I hope I’m wrong and I’m cautiously holding out hope, but I won’t be preordering anything.
Personally I'm not at all as I find them WAY too easy - at least they are a bit harder in the high intensity zone, as I fear in the future when we're walking Corvettes and fully engineered that we'll just stop everything with ease which isn't necessarily fun.
Absolutely they do - as does the SRV, you can drive it right into the fight and just waste everyone. It's shields are fairly weak but you'll last a bit if you're careful. It's sorta boring but it definitely works. If you haven't tried a high intensity one they are MUCH harder and more fun.
These aren’t really fun enough to justify bothering with much engineering grind. Even with the lvl 3 dom suit and a 3 plasma shotgun and other plasma it still is not fun. Any medium zone enemy soldier easily 2 shots you regardless of their weapons or the range and more than one or two instagib you in any suit. I bought my gear by traveling to about 12 systems and I am glad I did so I know not to bother with any grind for ground pounding. Love the space CZ action, but this is never going to be fun imo.
I disagree. Pervasive First Shooter combat, if it turn to be a main feature from Odyssey, will destroy the very originality of the game. I didn't see absolutely nothing new that I can have much better playing several First Shooter installments already in the gaming market for decades. I really hope the next phases will show us the true meaning of this game: exploration, discovery and research of the amazing exobiology, LORE, a much more trading/mining/mercenary dynamics on foot, Aliens. So many features are better than such boring "space pew-pew".
