- In the premiere episode of Retro Media Release, we take a look back at the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve. We look at Laserdisc, Beta, and VHS.

I got the 4K set when it came out, haven’t had a chance to watch it. Plan on going over that release on my show DVD Deep Dive soon. (And yes that show goes over DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4Ks)
The original WCI/Warner releases are actually time compressed. The WCI version is the first release of Superman in late 1979. It was a common practice by Warner on their early VHS/Beta releases due to the limitations of VHS/Beta at the time in terms of tapes. For Superman, if you'll notice the cases, the runtime is 127 minutes on both VHS/Beta on the tapes, compared to a 143 minutes for the theatrical cut's runtime. They accomplished this by speeding up non-dialogue sequences, and the end credits aren't condensed, they are just simply cut out for the most part, aside from a copyright notice, and the "Next Year Superman II" card. The rest of the credits includes a card which are the credits as they are listed on the film's poster, and a small little warning card before the music abruptly cuts out. (these "condensed" credits were lifted from the film's Super 8 release). The red clamshell release is the first release of the film at its proper run time.

Hey Anthony Im Also A Huge Fan Of Not Really SuperMan But Cinema & Movies And Retro Cinema Releases Rentals Video Stores Ect. But I Do Have A Superman Related Story I Work For Wal-Mart Here In PA For Many Years I Worked In The Electronics Dept. And I Remember When The To My Knowledge The Last Superman Film Man Of Steel (2013) To Promote The Movie They Were Giving Free Tickets Through The Company To All The Electronics Employees So I Got To See The Man Of Steel Premiere Through My Job It Was A Great Time

been around the end of the Beta format
From what I understand, prerecorded Beta tapes were released into the mid 90s.
