  • I had high expectations for the X100 Pro but with all that Vivo has shoved into this phone... it's absolutely phenomenal!

Vivo X100 Pro front video already looked magestic at 1080p compared to other 4k videos, but now being able to record up to 4k60 makes it insanely good.

The Tech Phenomena with another PHENOMENAL video.
Yk, there are a few people complaining about the texture on the back "it's too slippery" - GSMarena, like I don't get it, if it's slippery then use a case or get a skin? Like all phones are slippery yet they complain about the X100 Pro only, weird. Also, a minor thing but even though I agree with you on the fact that curved screens just FEEL better to use, they're kind of annoying. What I mean is, in day to day use, when swiping and stuff, curved screens are the BEST, absolutely GOATED, I've had only a few dozen misclicks happen due to the curved edges since using the S7 edge, yeah 20-30 missclicks over 7-8 years isn't something I'd complain about. The display itself looks great when turned off as well. My main gripe is the fact that curved screens are extremely reflective, I have to turn all the lights in my room to get the reflections to go when I want to watch a film or a cool spooky video. That's the only gripe I have with curved screens. I wish we had a foldable screen that folded inwards to become a curved screen and then went back to being flat when needed for content consumption.
Also about the software, so you're saying basically apart from looks and feel, this skin and other skins are on the same level basically? Like the only reason I'm feeling scared to switch from OneUI is because of some niche features I really love to use a lot. Such as swipe down in the gesture bar to make it one handed and most importantly being able to switch sims and their functions/the default sim for messages/calls/data on the fly on the notification shade. These 2 are must haves for me. Being able to change the task changer, , changing grid sizes a bit in the Home Up app, the keyboard in keys cafe and finally being able to numerically show the number of the volume on the volume slider and change up the increments are incredible nice to have's on a phone for me. But yeah, could you, or anyone using a Vivo phone help me out and see if this stuff is available? I'll switch at the end of this year, gonna use my S22 Ultra just a little bit longer and see how good the X110 Pro is going to be. The battery on my phone is 3/4 of what it was and that's the most important thing besides being able to call for me. I really like the look of Vivo's phones, reminds me of OxygenOS which I loved when I tried my cousin's Oneplus 8. I also wish there was a "lower sharpness" option for the cameras, that would make this a damn near perfect phone for 99% of people who are okay with big screens.

  • @astrokumaon3397

    Great review man.
This is the underdog of 2024 and from what I've seen on other reviews, it beats the Find x7 Ultra too even though that one has the IMX LYT-900 sensor (newer generation of the IMX 989 which the x100 pro has). It will take time for Oppo to fully optimise the software for the LYT-900 the way Vivo has mastered the IMX-989. Vivo has gone full throttle on software optimisation of the camera and has found the holy grail of balance between hadware and software for cams.
I feel Vivo have just nailed it with this one and the so-called compromises are those which Vivo has simply cracked 100% bang on, e.g., 1.5k screen instead of 2k, the front facing 1080p (which now stands upgraded to 4k, which should hit Indian units also soon), and no super slo-mo in 4k - which are very niche requirements and most of the folks wouldn't need these.
I was very wary coming from Samsung after nearly 10 years and finally letting go of my Galaxy Note 9, but the X100 Pro is just too awesome from a software perspective too - which totally nails it! It's sad that a camera phone like this may not hit the sales figures like its competitors, when in fact all of the flagship specs and storage gets offered in the X100 Pro at nearly a 40% say compared to the S24U and a 50% discount compared tp the 15 Pro Max.
What swung it for me was the night and astro shooting modes, which are insane to say the least. Note that the blueing of the sky at night can be avoided using different shooting modes - not going into details here.
The stuff that you can do on the camera on this phone is magical, and I now find myself leaving my DSLR behind instead of lugging it around and instead carry a mini-portable tripod with a phone holder (with a bluetooth remote shutter) which fulfils all my requirements for regular and night landscape photography.
Very importantly, if you see the "reach" of the lenses, they can shoot near microscopic (using macro mode) up to a 100x zoom (and most times zoom up to 50-60x is quite usable, but beyond that its good for text and identification purposes but not for the quality of the photo as such). To achieve this kind of "reach" on a DSLR/mirrorless cam, you'd need to shell out a quite a few $$$$, so getting this phone was a no brainer! Bingo! 😊
You can see some of my pics here (no pics using the x100 pro yet): instagram.com/astrokumaon/

I need your help to understand the natural bokeh effect in this phone. Even when I do not intend and want to click a regular photo of a room or people standing, this phone still produces blur at some objects within the scene. This is not happening with regular sensor size phones including x100 base and they produce full sharp details. How can we tackle this in pro model?

    • @thetechphenomena
      @thetechphenomena  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The natural bokeh happens because of the large sensor... Essentially how we get bokeh from professional cameras like in the A roll in my review... That allows for separation of the background from the foreground making the photo look more appealing... Atleast in my opinion

I was a pixel 2 xl user and was in love with it's camera, and at the end of it's life I was mildly curious about the vivo x 60 pro plus, it was getting good firat looks and all. I jumped on board the vivo train with that phone because of the cameras and that funtouch was tolerably near stock.
Man I was loving using the phone, had a good 3 years with it until it got the green line display issue.
Vivo offered to have it replaced for free, but couldn't find a spare display in time, after which I asked if I could upgrade instead - and BAM! I have a x90 for a small exchange fee, essentially free. The service center, staff, the overall process for the display replacement and upgrade to the new handset was all handled really well and it has me so impressed and dare I say a loyal advocate for the brand. Seeing your reaction to the x100 pro I am VERY tempted to buy it! And what's crazy is that the x90 has already been such a great experience, that I don't wanna sell it - I might end up carrying two vivo phones instead of one!
