    I actually love your outer pouch idea and the 3 sections bc mine right now is gross and I can't wash it and the beans all fall to one side... I'm going to do it your way and make my first one tomorrow.....
    My sister made the others that we have and we love them... This will just make them even better!!

    Do we need to use something specific for the white fabric? What did you use? Is it just regular fabric?

    Okay this may sound dumb, but am I correct in thinking that your inside piece was cut at 13x10 folded? Or it was cut at 12x9 like the outside cover?
    I just know you said something about an inch larger because of your half inch seam allowance.
    I’m new to sewing and I want to make these as Christmas gifts 😅

    • @ElenaMarieSewing
      @ElenaMarieSewing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! So glad you are making these! I measured the finished cover and made it slighter bigger than that. I believe I cut the inside to be about 11 x 8 folded, so it would fit inside.
      If you are unsure, cut it the same as the cover and you can always take the seam in if it is slightly too big

    Hi. I am a little confused on your measurements. I’m a new sewer. Can you tell me what the dimensions were when you cut the fabric not when you finished it or folded it? I’m mainly trying to figure out how big to cut the fabric for the inner bag.

    • @ElenaMarieSewing
      @ElenaMarieSewing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No problem! So the piece of fabric was 16” x 11” then folded it in half to be 8” x 11”

    • @ecn33
      @ecn33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ElenaMarieSewing thank you so much! So that means the outer bag was 18x12 with 18 being the length not width?

    • @ElenaMarieSewing
      @ElenaMarieSewing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ecn33 yes! I think that’s right

    • @eo3064
      @eo3064 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ElenaMarieSewing Using the measurements on your cutting board as a guide, the piece of fabric was 12"x21" which you then folded in half to make a folded 11"x10" piece of fabric for the outer pouch. You cut the inner fabric at 8x22". Neither of these would have given the results you showed.
      Your tutorial helped me figure out how to make these so thanks for that!
      For those wanting to make an 8x11" pack with a 9x11" outer cover, I'd suggest cutting the outer cover piece 10x27" (most fabric is 54" wide and this is 1/2 that size). Also, that will also give you a wider overlap (2" on both ends 4" total ), in addition to the 1″ length needed for the folded edges (1/2" + 1/2"), so the opening doesn't gap open like it does in this video. Basically, you add 5" in length to your fabric and 1" to the width. 11" doubled = 22" plus 5" = 27". Once sewed that would give you a 9x11" outer pouch.
      For the inner pack, cut fabric to 9x23" if you want to sew 1/2" seam allowances at the one end resulting in an 8x10" inner pack.
      For any other inner pack sizes sizes, add 1" for width seams and double the length and add 1".
      Outer: 10x27" (with 2-4" folds & 1/2" seams). Makes 9x11" outer cover.
      Inner: 9x23" (with 1/2" seams). Makes 8x11" inner pack.

    Wondering if anyone has tried using a variety of grains together, so the rice takes up the small areas and beans sustain the heat and last longer and corn might be a medium between the beans and rice?

      I took a sewing class in high school and my teacher had us make this heating pack and I can’t remember it all, but I could of sworn it was dried corn and rice and we had to keep reheating so it wouldn’t cook when he’ll our heating pack was finished. The best heating pack EVER, others could agree ig because it got stolen 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve been trying to see if anyone else did this ever since. No luck yet :/
