    Jessica Campbell was a power skating coach at the academy I attended several years ago. She's a very impressive skater, and definitelt knows her stuff. I'm glad to see her moving up in the hockey world

      Her expertise is in skating and that for obvious reasons is essential to today’s game where back in the day a lot of players had puck handling skills but were marginal skaters.

    Campbell definitely earned this role particularly with how skilled she is at helping develop forwards and skating. She played a big part in why undrafted free agents like Tye Kartye and Logan Morrison have played NHL games within the first season of them joining the AHL. Personally would’ve wished she got the Firebirds’ head coaching gig, but she was due for a promotion regardless.

      She's also already been a coach in the NHL (technically). Seattle did a simultaneous puck drop against Calgary in Calgary and Seattle. She was the assistant coach for the group in Seattle.

    Toronto may not be over the cap. Toronto has yet to announce and verify the signing of Jani Hakanpaa. He is not listed on the teams website, yet all others they have signed during free agency are. There are rumors going around that his career may be over due to the injury he suffered in March that ended his season. Toronto happens to be over the cap exactly by Hackanpaa's aav.

    This pretty much confirmed TJ Oshie is all but retired. They put Backstrom on offseason LTIR to get under the 110% of the cap allowed in the offseason but still are about 5m over. Without a cap dump Oshie will go on LTIR. This only leaves Ovechkin, Wilson and Carlson from the cup winning team from 2018

  • @DiasBenes
    @DiasBenes หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    They can't use LTIR to get under the cap. That is a bad misconception. LTIR only happens when the season starts. LTIR has to be factored in for cap compliance so they need to be included in the cap structure at the start of the season. Once a team gets under the cap, they can then put players on long term injury reserve and free up cap for signing player and trading them. Teams can sit over the cap at 10% before all of this happens but before the start of the season, they need to get under the cap ceiling.
    This stops teams from acquiring LTIR contracts and then going over the cap to sign players at free agency. Its why when Las Vegas picked up Shea Weber's LTIR contract, they immediately traded it to the Coyotes because they found they couldn't utilized the 7 million LTIR space the way they wanted. The Coyotes on the other hand used the LTIR contract to get to the Cap floor.
    What happens when you sign a player for a multi year contract while having a LTIR contract? During the season, a team can do this but the next offseason, that new contract and the LTIR contract have to get under the cap ceiling. If it doesn't, then they need to make trades to get under the cap. Colorado this season is totally fucked. They can't even field a full roster because they have 2 contracts that they have to deal with. Landeskog at 7 million and Nichuskin at 6.125 million. Its why Colorado has been quiet in the free agency, they didn't have the cap space to sign any new players. And Las Vegas signed Hanifin and traded for Hertl and that meant players like Marchessault and Martinez were let go. If teams could use LTIR like what is being said here, they could of resigned these players easily.
    There is another scenario where a team won't declare a contract as long term injury reserve and just keep the contract on the books. This happened with Montreal where they just kept Price's contract on the books and in turn were able to accrues cap space. This of course opens up cap space at the trade deadline so teams can make trades. Teams that are using LTIR do not accrue cap space.
    What people have a bone to pick is how teams like Las Vegas will put Mark Stone on LTIR, get 9 million of cap space back to make a trade deadline signing and then Mark Stone returns for the playoffs. Yes this is a loop hole and some teams want to close this loop hole off. Las Vegas still has to deal with any contracts like Hertl that will force them to make hard decisions like not resigning Marchessault who had 42 goals for them last season.
    This is a hard cap league. Unlike the NBA which has exceptions like resigning their own players and exceeding the cap indefinitely a lenient luxury tax threshold which allows the rich teams to go out for free agents and offer them huge deals by paying into the luxury tax. The NBA is very different in the way they handle the cap compared to the NHL.

    • @burnxinxhell
      @burnxinxhell หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No teams want to close the loophole, cos they all can use it. Only crybaby fans want it closed especially if their teams GM isn't willing to make that move

    I was looking at Washington's salary situation yesterday. CapFriendly is showing them at $13.3 million over, and that doesn't even count Nicklas Backstrom on LTIR. They have seven skaters at $5 million or higher (Overchicken, PLD, Wilson, Mangiapane, Oshie, Strome, Carlson and Matt Roy). Buyouts won't help much, they're gonna hafta dump a couple of players for some cheaper depth. Shannon?

    • @XaviRonaldo0

      All they need is a doctor to say Backstrom won't play in the first 10 games or 24 days. I may be slightly wrong on those figures. Then they can put him on offseason LTIR to get under the 110% then they put Oshie on LTIR at the start of the season to get under the cap.
