    Slight correction at 11:10 - Animal Instinct Barbarian not using weapons while raging was already there; it was part of the anathema, not the Instinct Ability.

  • @paulwright7194

    I have a 13th level giant instinct barbarian. His base AC is 35, reduced to 34 whenever he is wielding his oversize weapon due to Clumsy 1. I ran some numbers, and no longer having the untyped -1 penalty to AC is going to make a nice difference. And it's more than 5% less damage. It varies by opponent level and whether or not he's off-guard, but against most creatures he is likely to face (i.e., within two levels of himself), he will take 10% to 14% less damage on a first swing, or 8% to 14% less damage on first swing if he is also off-guard (which is often the case). My point being, I am very happy about losing that penalty.

    "No longer can animal instinct use weapons while raging" did you miss the part of premaster animal instinct where using weapons was anathema. this is actually better because now instead of having an option that turns off all your class abilities, you're just physically unable to do it

    Greatly approve of all of these changes. Having played alongside a fighter during AV I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit jealous of them. I went down more often, did less damage (accuracy matters), and was always second picked with haste unless the fighter was debuffed. About the Giant weapons... a Giant instinct barbarian's weapon is supposed to be OVERSIZED - and that means that, aside from being unbelievably heavy, it costs double. This means that a Giant instinct barbarian with a bastard sword is barely below the upper limit, with eight gold of cost.

    • @PH03NIX96

      @@PH03NIX96 I meant that Giant instinct barbarians get an oversized weapon for free as long as it is 9 GP or less. This means that they should watch out for their choices - the most complex and unusual the weapon, the more costly it'll be. Luckily, the only melee weapons in the Player Core 1 that would go beyond the allowed price are both Agile AND Finesse - weapons that a Barbarian wouldn't consider suitable. The +2 to hit feat previously imposed - 2ac I believe. So nice buff. Couple with Rage debuff gone and it's 2 ac better than it used to be.
    Love the durability and dpr increases. Fighter dpr likely still higher via more reactions, and it has disrupting stance, which is an S tier control feat.
    Might have overtaken fighter as best melee martial.

    A lot are happy that the AC fee is removed, and it certainly makes the barbarian amazing against higher level menaces, but now that lower level enemies can flank it better means that crowds will be more menacing (and Giant barbarians will become more vulnerable to it than before) but it's neat that now the class have some vulnerability that the casters he used to protect can cover for them.

  • @garathekd

    My biggest disappointment is the lack of changes to the level 1 and 2 feats. I'd probably even say move that heavy armor feat from 8 to 1. Maybe there is an issue doing it that I just don't see but seems like it would start with the same AC and give the freedom to dump dex. There are a couple other high level feats I could see droping down, Tangle of battle comes to mind. Maybe tie Intimidating Prowess to Raging Intimidation instead of Scared to Death or have it add something to Intimidating Strike?
    I felt stuck with Raging Intimidation on my Animal Barb since Not being able to use weapons ruled out Raging Thrower,. I could of Taken sudden charge but if I ever made it to Predator's Pounce I would need to retrain it then... At least taking sudden charge at 2 gave a few other options for that.

      Agreed. Fury's benefit is barely existent as it is and the feats could use a general boost. Like a level 1 feat to choose amd take a -1 AC for the rage but gain a +1 to attack? Things like that, make the level 1 and 2 feats feel like something that matters

    I honestly hope they give us the -1 AC in the form of a feat. Something like "you can deepen your rage, letting your reckless nature cause damage to your foes. Take a -1 AC, but also makes your first attack each turn have its damage increased by one Die step."
    I do think some flavor got lost when we lost the AC penalty, but adding it back as a feat may be great in its place.

    • @bea-ti9rg
      @bea-ti9rg 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      yeah absolutely i think like a +2 to damage would be better cuz d12 die but i absolutely hope they bring it back in the form of a feat, playing barb as a tank and not a glass cannon feels... wrong? to me at least, i know people like the tank barb and im not against it i just dont like that its the only barb you can play now unless you play giant instinct y'know?

    • @hellfrozenphoenix13
      @hellfrozenphoenix13 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @bea-ti9rg I agree! And +2 damage could work, maybe increasing with level or additional feats. Or even a +1 to hit maybe. I agree that having more options is good, and having the ability to make a glass cannon style barb is fun.
      I also hope they eventually make Fury feel like hot dog water. I'd say they fit the theme of glass cannon most, so maybe giving them baseline AC lost during rages and maybe even less HP per level in exchange for a quickened style effect.
      Don't get me wrong, I do like buffs. But I also like flavor and options. And I hope they start to diversify some of these things a little bit more in the future.
