    Belle Ame is just...too good. The iris in it is so moody and powdery. I love how high quality it smells. As a Dior Homme lover, its my favorite from the 3 in the collection.

    Your face at the end!! 🤣🤣🤣 The Persolaise forehead never lies.
    Looking forward to a video with Eugene! I really enjoy his videos, especially when he talks about fragrances from his favourite brands like Chanel. He (like yourself) never just rattles down the notes of a perfume. There are fragrance enthusiasts like myself who are practically illiterate and cannot dissect scents (except when they are REALLY obvious like the lemon in Fleurs de Cedrat). It doesn’t tell me anything so I really appreciate a fragrance reviewer who can convey their sense of smell through the use of images, colours, feelings and memories.
    Is it too early to wish you a wonderful Christmas? 🎄

      That's very kind -- a very happy festive season to you too. And I look forward to 'meeting' Eugen one day.

    La Douleur Exquise is the perfume of the year for me....absolutely stunning... that castoreum note in the dry down is stunning ....best Rose Patchouli of all time! So glad you got to experience these Mr P 🐏

    Love Douleur Exquise! I agree, wish it were louder. Otherwise exquise.❤️

      Agreed. Maybe the relative quietness is part of the point.

    Wonderful work as always. The therapeutic effects of your channel are a subject for scientific study. Such warmth, kindness, and erudition.
    Is it awkward reviewing the work of a peer of sorts, especially when it’s a fledgling brand? On the one hand, it’s not a critic’s job to fret over the emotional / financial effects of a negative review on the products’ owner, but you’re also a thoughtful guy and surely these considerations must flit through your mind. Not an enviable spot, but maybe you’ve arrived at a comfortable place with such situations by now?

      Thank you for the very kind words, John.
      You raise an excellent question. It's something that has come up more than once over the years.
      Having spoken about it several times with brand owners (especially those with relatively small brands) I've come to the conclusion that I shouldn't make any concessions, as such, and that I should try to stay as objective as possible. Time and again, small brand owners have told me that they don't want any special treatment. They want to be appraised in the same as anyone else, not least because they often charge prices for their work that are as high as those of larger brands. So yes, as you say, these are considerations that flit through my mind. But I always try to return to some measure of objectivity and 'blindness.'

    Hi Persolaise, nice video again. When someone mentioned an angel in latex about Belle Âme, I had to think somehow of the blind angel in Barbarella, which made me laugh. I wish I could smell these perfumes but I don't seem to be able to lay hands on them in my whereabouts. Another Paris trip will shortly be necessary. Have a great day!

      Thanks for writing, Emma. I wonder if samples of Les Abstraits might be available direct from the brand.

    Thank you for this review Dariush! I've never heard of Les Abstraits brand and am now eager to smell them. As for Goldfield&Banks: much ado about nothing. With all that hype they get, I briefly tried the whole range and what can I say...it was a waste of my time.

    • @Persolaise

    I actually adore the goldfield and banks purple suede and I have tried all sizes from tester, travel and 100ml and they all smell different! I am not sure if it is purely psychological but the travel size is the worst of the three, very weak and subtle leaning on the florals, the tester size is broadly more rich and animalic than the other two and the 100ml has a bold raspberry hue, very inconsistent in my experience but I think you should come back to it and do a test I’d like to see If it’s just my personal experience with the sizes

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting. There absolutely shouldn't be any difference between them, but who knows, perhaps they were different batches.

    I found most of the Givenchy line to be in the signature territory. I chose the discontinued Indompté, because I could not get it out of my mind. That one is the perfect elegant leather, but the others are good too.

    Oh Mr P., I love Givenchy III which is a wonderful old-fashioned aldehydic chypré. It's a beauty. But then it's an oldie... The Mamounia, another film comes to mind: Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much. Sorry, it's simply your videos are so stimulating !

    • @Persolaise

    Missed it by an hour :( But also glad to see the recording as first thing in the morning :) I’m not surprised by your reaction in the last section but G&B is becoming hugely popular lately - at least in this side of the world. May be becoming Creed is the target? After all there seems to be a really big market for that kind of products.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - if people enjoy them, that’s absolutely fine. But I’m not sure they do anything for me.

      @@Persolaise I had very similar experience - they’re certainly pleasant but I didn’t manage to remember any in particular after walking away from the store.

    By the way, "douleur" actually means "pain", so do you see a double entendre in the perfume's name? I mean, it conveys a sense of masochistic fibre. Do you see that in it too?

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, maybe to some extent - manifested by the leather note.

    Could you do a colab with Sebastian from The perfume guy? He also talks about hidden gems and under the radar fragrances

    • @gen_o
      @gen_o ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sebastian is a collector and Mr. Persolaise belongs to a league of his own. But I don’t mind a “collab” on hidden gems if that happens. 😌
