  • Tenacity . The Aftermath. What your lawn will look like after using tenacity. In this video I am going to show what the results of using Tenacity look like. I had some grassy weeds in my lawn and treated them using Tenacity. Although I did NOT make a mistake using Tenacity I want to show what the results will look like in the lawn. Tenacity is a great product in my opinion for treating weeds. The problem with it though is the unsightly white spots that will show in the lawn. These spots are actually a good thing because you will know that the product is working.

    Scott's starter fertilizer and weed preventer did the same thing to me a few weeks ago. I'll see how much I can cut out when I cut the lawn tomorrow. It freaked me out when I saw it. We have a slight decline in the back yard and it really did a number at the bottom of the yard!!! But anyway your lawn looks GREAT Pat...

    Loved the video. I'm a guy who likes his bluegrass lawn, too. Recommend using Tenacity full strength, putting down a second application 2 weeks later, and the raking topsoil and seed over the bare areas. I do this both spring and fall. The goal is to kill the weeds. It's very visible when you start, but there is much less to kill aftervthe first year.

I’ve never used tenacity before but I am excited to see the results because I have a huge amount of crabgrass taking over. I’m a little late to the game 🫣 . The white bleached grass that you had, did it die or did it just turn green and keep growing? Also is tenacity totally safe?

      @@aroundthehousewithpat31 I hope so too...I'm finally getting the lawn looking good and don't want to ruin it now. While I do know that spring seeding isn't ideal, I did buy a bag of Turf Type Tall Fescue and may put down some seed in the morning just so that if it is a grassy type weed that I can fill in the areas a bit and then overseed in the fall. I'm a bit worried only because it's the first time this has happened with the tenasity at the same time I do hope that if it did turn the tall fescue white that it's just something to that variety of grass along with KBG that makes it temporarily turn white. It's frustrating, thats for sure.

We had a rainy weekend and I overseeded this morning as we're going to have some off and on showers all day so I figure it will soak some of the seed in and will water during the days that are dry. I had neglected the lawn for a while but over the last three years I got back into lawn care and put down tall fescue seeds over this time and the lawn was starting to really come back. Then I put down the tenacity and it turned some of the tall fescue white and it got me a bit nervous. Hopefully it comes back and after a few mows the green shoots up, if anything maybe the new grass seed will help too. At this point, I may not use weed killer again and just hope any new grass I get from overseeding will over take the weeds.

    Great video! Just put down my first app of tenacity this week. I’ve never used tenacity before but heard good things! I feel like 30%-40% of my lawn is crab grass 😬 It’s taken over and it’s Mid July. I plan to do another application in a few weeks. A few questions: I wonder with that much Crab grass dying will I need to reseed and how soon can I put the seed down after putting down the second app of tenacity?
    Also when is the proper time of year to use tenacity to set my self up for a good summer? What months and do you always do 2 applications. I have approximately 20k sq. Ft. Of lawn. Not quite 3/4 acre.

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31
      @aroundthehousewithpat31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like a huge crab grass problem. When I use tenacity I always go with half the rate when applying. I have done this with every kind of weed killer and preventer. You can do a lot of damage to the grass with weed killer so it pays to go half rate with it and then reapply after 2 weeks. Since you have such a big problem I would hit it again two more times about 3 weeks in between. I would definitely reseed but not until fall. I would reseed at the end of September. I use tenacity as a pre emergent in the spring usually the first week of April applying it at half rate and doing the second application two weeks later. That should solve your problem with all that crab grass you have. You may even want to do a third application at half rate in the middle of May. I NEVER use a weed killer during the summer hot months. You will definitely kill off some good grass by doing that when it’s hot out. Since you have so much of it I don’t see a problem doing it but definitely throw some seed down in the fall. Good Luck!

      @mikestix88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate those timestamps you posted. I literally marked my calendar. I will do all of those applications at half rate and next year as well. I just learned about tenacity a week ago and I ordered it right away. I did do a full application on the lawn already or 1 teaspoon per 2 gallons But I will make my next ones at half rate every time as you recommended.
      I did reseed this spring but I will plan to do it at the end of September. I don’t know what kind my grass is. Do you recommend a certain seed from big box stores or Amazon?

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31
      @aroundthehousewithpat31  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikestix88 choosing a grass type depends on how much work and time you want to put into your lawn. Although any grass type is going to require some maintenance work during each season some are more and some are less. I’m thinking your most likely in a cool season area. For the least amount of work I would go with tall fescue. It’s not a soft grass in my opinion because the blades are wide but it’s hardy and it’s quick to recover after lack of water or rain if it goes dormant during dry spells. Perennial Rye would be second. It has a thinner blade and softer to walk on. It also recovers quickly after lack of water and it is super easy to grow from seed. Kentucky Blue Grass which is what I have is tricky to grow from seed and during the hot months it needs a lot of water to prevent it from going dormant and if it does go dormant it takes awhile to come out of it after lack of water. You should do some research on the different cool season grasses and then decide for yourself which one is best for your situation. Once you get a thick lawn established that in its self will choke out a lot of weeds. I hope that helps. Best of luck with whatever type you use. If you plan on buying seed from say Home Depot I would use Scott’s grass seed.

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31

      Hello, I would put a second application down at half the rate two weeks after the first application. You really don’t need to rake the dead crabgrass out unless that is basically all you have, for grass. I would wait a week after the second application before seeding. I know the label for tenacity says it’s safe to seed when applying tenacity but I like to be conservative when it comes to that since seed is so expensive. In the spring treat your lawn with a fertilizer that has a crabgrass preventer. I usually put that down twice in the spring. Once in early April and again in mid May. It will definitely help with preventing a huge outbreak of crabgrass during the summer months. Good luck with your project.
