What's fucking amazing with absolutely everyone commenting on how bad the Shopkeeper scene is, is how EASY it would be to have fixed that scene in fucking minutes, and with so much less effort (not that the final cut even managed correct foley timing, let alone the stiff, physical performance). Especially for a guy like Scorsese and the amount of money that went into this picture. It could have been better as well, even by design to have the camera focus on his daughter when he says "Wait here", slowly zoom in on her and her face slowly turn as it's left to the audiences imagination as to everything happening in the background. The muffled argument behind closed doors; the sudden shattering of said doors; the screams of pain; the kicks; the silence that follows repeated kicks. To close out, Frank takes his daughter's hand as they walk off and the camera pans slowly to the aftermath. I'm no cinematographer or film critic by any stretch, but i'd worked this out the moment I finished laughing at it.
it doesn't really take me out, I think it's funny to think of him as a guy who is really physically weak but still like willing and clever enough to pull off hits. And I look at it as even more intimidating and humiliating if the mob sent like some really frail dude to deliver beatdowns to the normal people they needed to send a message to, like you'll have to sit here and have some weakling kick the crap out of you in broad daylight in front of your store as people watch, because they're an organization that can do a lot more if you so much as raise a hand to resist
@esock2001 I found him through the movie This is England where he plays a Skinhead named Combo recently released from prison. He reminds me of some of the crazier dudes I met within the punk scene.
The worst part about the CGI was the eyes, they didn't fix those and you can't tell if the characters are 30 or 56 years old. Also, what parts of the movie was Dinero NOT in CGI? That's a fun game to play while you watch it. All in all, I think it was an epic movie worthy of it's detailed story. And it proves that we don't have the technology to make a 70 year old look like he's in his 20s.
