I own the osmo and I found your video interesting. But I also love the osmo but I currently have a brain injury and I am just blessed to be alive and I am hoping to get my own life back. 🙏

great review, thanks for saving me a lot of money. i have the basic Osmo and was thinking about the X5, but had read about all the auto focus issues. you confirmed it very eloquently, as well as pointing out that all the added hardware renders the rig cumbersome compared to the (relatively) elegant basic X3 setup. I use a Sony RX100 on a Feiyu MG Lite gimbal and that works reasonably well for me as well. thanks again.
Thanks. I think that will be my next set up. I have an RX100V on pre-order and have a handheld stick style gimbal I want to test it with.
Greta review. Thank you sir. I own the x3 version and couldnt find a review that spoke about the focus tracking or zoom ability of the x5 until now. Very useful.
DJI Focus Handwheel
Who uses autofocus when making a film? If this device/lens has manual focus, then that is all I need. Does this only have autofocus and no manual focus?

I rented the original Osmo to shoot some behind the scenes stuff. While the video stabilization was exactly as I expected... I hated that I had to reconnect my iPhone via WIFI each time I picked it up to use. I was only using the Osmo a little at a time. I was mostly shooting video on a Canon 70D... and then I would grab some shots with the Osmo. And it was just a pain to put the phone in the holder, turn on the Osmo, go to my iPhone's setting and connect to WIFI on the Osmo, open the DJI app, etc. I quickly realized that I'd just rather use my iPhone's camera on a smartphone gimbal. And DJI must have heard me since they just released the Osmo Mobile! For my uses... a smartphone gimbal would be much easier. Or I'd get a single-handle DSLR gimbal like the Zhiyun Crane or Came-TV Optimus. Like I said... the Osmo is great... but the setup is a pain if you're only using it a little at a time. The Osmo seems to be stuck in a weird middle-ground between smartphone gimbals and DSLR gimbals. I'm glad I rented the Osmo... and now I know it's not something I want to purchase and own.
I have the Osmo Mobile on pre-order. It should be here soon. I think that will be a huge seller as the regular DJI Osmo is ok, but not great without continuous autofocus. I was able to get great footage from the Osmo, it's just not as hands off as it should be for the money. Most cameras have great continuous AF these days.
I use my iPad mini with my OSMO. Get's a little lob sided at times but it's cool once you get used to it. :)
The OSMO Pro setup (X5 lens, accessories, case, etc) is $2000. What would you recommend at a similar price point with similar features? I have heard that there is a HUGE jump in quality between the X3 and the X5...would you still recommend the X3?
yes its true.. comes in short.. I had x3 and i wasnt happy except with the slow mo feature then upgraded w x5 n im not quite satisfied bec of the auto focus capabilities is very slow. but its still good to capture good footage but I just need to plan it out ahead to get it right. tnx for the awesome review. keep up the good vids
What?? iPhone 6S Plus is bigger than iPhone 6 Plus? because I have a 6 Plus and of course it fits.
You said in the video above that there are cheaper and maybe better then the dji osmo is it possible to have your thoughts on different options in a future video plz. and i agree i think the focus lets this down and for a light in low light places can be hard at times.

Exactly what I found. DJI has not thought the concept over well enough. It is flawed in so many aspects. Which is ridiculous really and a real pitty, because I am sure that with some software adaptations (autofocus please!) it really could be a very well usable camera.
It is like one department at DJI wanted all kind of things and the developers stopped developing one day and nevertheless DJI decided to launch the product. It is simply not finished.
We want good sound, but that is impossible because the camera has a fan which can not be switched off. We want time laps but that can't be because the computer is too weak. We want autofocus, but no, buy the hand wheel.
Talking about the hand wheel for focus: does this solve the focus misery or is it another €300 waisted? If yes, than there is simply no way to make the Osmo with X5 work properly. Which is a bloody shame by itself.
if you really care about focus all you need is X3
and any professional video is come by Manual focus
there are not any auto focus lens or camera for profession in the world
If you have a selection of extensions, the phone holder can be mounted in the opposite direction, bringing it in front of you.
I did try that. The main problem is that with a large phone it then offset the display too much which made me have to reach across my body a bit more to keep the screen in front of me. I opted to keep the screen in it's default location.

It depends. Most cheaper handheld gimbals do not come with a camera so it would depend on which camera you have. I have the DJI Osmo Mobile on pre-order. That could be a game changer based on what I have seen and the price looks good. Can't want to use it with an iPhone 7.

I own an Osmo Pro like you do and still I think it is the biggest mis-purchase I have ever made. I share the concern about the loud fan noise. Really disappointing. Focus is really difficult even with the handwheel. When I bought it I even had to purchase an Iphone as the android app didnt offer focus peaking. Surreal. Plus: have you ever tried to walk around a person, trying to keep in the same place in the frame? Hardly possible because the Osmo seems to do movements you cannot control... :-( Plus ... which is absolutely surreal ... the Osmo PRO, meant for PROfessional use, does not offer slow-mo, unlike the less pro "normal" Osmo. At the end we use it for some b-roll ... which is the most expensive b-roll cam ever :-/
peak focus is avaiable now on android phone :) and 3 different modes.
my Iphone 6plus even wt case (AUG) does fit...
I couldn't say i really liked this review? It's seamed like you didn't have a purpose for it. I think the product is exceptional.
I did. My purpose was to let people know about the product and what it is typically good for. I think it is a great product, but with no easy way of maintaining focus, it is not a good option for a single operator.
There is not a infinity focus setup?
I have one. The camera's bad autofocus and low bitrate made me consider death. I don't think I'd ever use it for professional work. Luckily I already owned the Inspire Pro and didn't buy the Osmo Pro.
I have the orginal ozmo.. so unreliable i stopped using it. To many flaws... although when it did work i loved the results..
What other system would you suggest ?

It depends on whether or not you need one with a camera. I would go for a system that lets you use your existing camera if you have one. I am interested in the DJI Osmo Mobile, which I have on pre-order. Once I get it, I will review it here.
Well, i think i want to keep my iphone to call and other, but not on an gimbal. I much prefer to have a camera on a gimbal, and using the iPhone as a screen to control everyhting. I am not sure to go on the X5, or somethingdifferent like a Panasonic LXA00 with a gimbal !

What would the cheaper better alternative be?
The basic DJI Osmo with the included camera or finding a platform that would allow you to shoot with your own camera.
But the difference in quality between the X3 and X5 is massive from what I've seen?
Just get a DSLR, shoulder rig, and a follow focus. Way better.
I've have video from the X3 that is way better than what he just shown from his X5. So in the right conditions I'm sure it is better. But just using on the gimbal like he did, I have done much, much better with the X3.
