Freddie was so much more than a simple rock star, he was a born musician. He could sing anything even he could compose anything. Montserrat Caballé was one of the greatest opera divas of the last century and she discovered The Musician in Freddie very quickly, they adored each other.
Apparently once, during a rehearsal of this incredible duet, Montserrat was feeling a little unsure of herself and demanded of Freddie, "Why do You want to sing with me...? I am Old.. I am Fat..." ! His response was, "Montsy"(the shortened name her called her..." You Are Music....and Music knows No age, nor Physical Appearance...."! Feeling somewhat reassured, she continued the rehearsal, and together they created this amazing piece of a Musical Legend..
Thanks much for this. Freddie's collaboration with the opera Diva, Montserrat Caballe'was a dream realized by him. He was thrilled that it happened - that she wanted the collaboration as much as he did, in fact was surprised he wanted to sing with her. Both were of highest regard in their respective genres. I believe you would be very pleased to see/hear them sing "How Do I go On" also on their album entitled "Barcelona". It is fabulous...most of the music and lyrics by Freddie Mercury and Mike Moran (the conductor here). I see you've been told this is not a Queen production it is one of Freddie's solo projects.
Hello!! Freddie’s collaboration with Montserrat Caballe’ is a match made in Heaven!! Montsy, as Freddie often called her, was his favorite female opera star! They did an album of duets together with music & lyrics written by Freddie with some contributions made by lyricist Sir Tim Rice, produced by Mike Moran! This is vocal mastery at its best! My favorite song off the album is THE GOLDEN BOY. It’s Lovely 🌿🌸
Thank you for your reaction. Montserrat Caballe was the most fabulous opera singer in this time. She's Spanish and Freddie was his first fan. They loved and respected each other. She died in October 2018. Listen to another golden song with them : "the golden boy", please 😊👍
Such a beautiful song . Montserrat was the number 1 operatic soprano in the world at this time and until her death. Proof that Freddie could hold his own in any musical genre. Thank you for your reaction.
Thank you for reacting to this important and unique musical event! At the outset, you mentioned that you were reacting to Queen….but this song was written by Freddie Mercury and collaborators, but it’s not a Queen song. Regardless, it’s an awe-inspiring duet, loved by millions. I’ve read that Freddie was very proud of his work on all of the songs on the Barcelona album.
