Hey Paul, your memory is good indeed we heard it before by Tania Kross & Tommie Christian. This song is the original written by Freddy and Mike Morgan. Montserrat and he really liked each other they talked a whole night and decided to make a whole album. Montserrat died in 2018 and was one of the last great opera divas. This song was ment to be sung during the opening of the games. This performance took place in 1988 at the presentation of Barcelona as host city for the Olympic games. Glad you liked it.
So wonderful to see Freddie perform here. He is so missed by so many, including me. What a performer and entertainer he was. This combination with this beautiful operasinger is just excellent and stunning.
It doesn’t matter how many times I hear and see this, it gets me every single time. Freddie was a one off, his musical prowess will go unmatched forever. I am so glad I was alive at the same time as this absolute legend, RIP Freddie and the very beautiful and talented Montserrat Caballé ❤️❤️
Freddie wrote this for them both they had an absolute pure love and respect for each other can you just hear the angels singing now that they are both in heaven ❤️
This song was composed to be sung by these two amazing singers for Barcelona Olympics opening in 1992. As Monserrat told, Freddy said her a few months before his death, in one of their many rehearsal meetings, that he knew that he won't be able to sing it in the opening. Unfortunately, he already knew that he was seriously sick in this time. Despite of Freddy's loss, the song was used as an anthem at the Olympics opening, thanks to the recordings and performances they made before the summer of 1992, the date of the Olympics. Great memories, especially for spanish people and Spain
No, he wrote it for her, but yes it should have been sung at the Olympics, she was upset when it wasn't, they went with Jose Carreras and Sarah Brightman.
Freddie did interviews of how he considered Montserrat the greatest singer Ever and wanted to sing with her. They did an entire Opera album together. BRILLIANT! RIP KING 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤❤
I watched this live at the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympic games in 1992, I was 20, an amazing song, by two of the best voices in the last century. I still get shivers and tears listening to it to this day, 32 years later.
They shook the foundations from the sky!! What an outstanding prefomance. We will never see this happen again in our lifetime. Freddie and Monserrat were on fire, and they absolutely loved one another. This was meant to be. I could watch this every day...and pretty much do. Like a jewel in the sun....
I actually DO listen to this at least once a day. It gives me hope that people can still be loving and caring to one another without need for a reason. Neither of these performers was pretentious or insecure (unlike many of today's artists).
This Triumphant Piece of pure musical magic, complete with the spectacular effects was performed at the "La Nit" Centro de Cultura in Barcelona in October of 1988, as centerpiece of the lavish celebrations to officially welcome the arrival of The Olympic Flag, from the city of Seoul. This Duet was originally compossed by Freddie and his musical maestro, Mike Moran as a tribute and homage to Montserrat Caballe, who was born in Barcelona and who's hometown it was, as well as being the venue of their first actual meeting.. She is still considered by many to be one of the greatest "Operatic Diva's(I use the term in it's purest sense here) of all time. When their collaboration to produce the first attempt at combining Rock and Opera in a song together was learned of, it was greeted by scepticism and derision. Some even claimed that Montserrat was betraying her operatic heritage. Despite the criticism and forecast of dire consequences, the two artists were steadfast and determined to pursue their project. The first actual performance of it took place at the prestigious "Ku Club" on the island of Ibiza in 1987, to instant rapturous acclaim. Montserrrat and Freddie had decisively silenced their detractors forever. Subsequently they were approached by the comittee in Barcelona intending to bid for the right to host the Summer Olympics in 1992, and wqanting to use it as an integral part of their bid. The pair enthusiastically agreed and the bid was indeed successful. It was hoped by some that the duo might perform at the "Opening Ceremony",but the fates decreed otherwise and Freddie tragically died 7 months before the event. However a recording was played and it became celebrated as the "Anthem" of the games. Montserrat only performed "Barcelona" once after Freddies, demise and then it was to a recording of his voice in the role, but it was incredibly emotionally draining for her. From then on, she preferred to keep it as a sacred and treasured tribute to her cherished friend and collaborator. Others have attempted to "cover" incredible duet, most failing miserably, some even butchering the piece. There was only one "Freddie and Montserrat"..! Sadly Montserrat Caballe died in 2018 and the world suddenly grew both a little colder and greyer. Yet thanks to technology we are still able to enjoy even thrill to this amazing, triumphant anthem. A piece of pure musical magic that is now 37 years old and will last through the ages.... "VIVA BARCELONA"..!!!
Freddie was in admiration of Montserrat, he’d always say “she is music”. Phoebe said that each time they were due to meet, Freddie was nervous as if it was the first time they met. It shows the great amount of respect he had.Peter Freestone: "He was on cloud nine. Freddie was up in the sky. He didn't need a plane to go home on, he was so happy. From what I know of Freddie, one of the biggest, greatest moments in his life, was when Montserrat had come over to London and put down her vocal track for Barcelona. After they'd done it, on the way home from the studio, I remember Freddie turning to me and saying "That's it! I've done it! I've got HER voice on my music!"
Love it, love it, love it! Just beautiful 🥲😍 Thankyou dear!! Freddie was amazing r.i.p. And this duet is just epic, their voices melt so well together. Chills all over the place. Freddie had so much love for Montserrat. Much bless and I hope to see more Freddie/Queen
Unfortunately we have lost both of them now. Montserrat was one of the most world famous opera sopranos ever. Just as huge a legend as Freddy in his genre.
After all these years, this song makes me cry uncontrollably. The whole album is great. HxC, Paul is it?, thank you for your appreciative and, as always, respectful comment.
Wow! Thanks for your reaction. Freddie has said the collaboration with Montserrat was his most cherished work outside of Queen (or some such words). He was overjoyed that she did it. Two 'top of their genre' performers giving us this outstanding entertainment. Check out their album - react to Golden Boy and How Can I Go On.
The song was played at the Barcelona Olympics. Unfortunately, Freddie didn't see it anymore. Queen's music has been performed 3 times at the Olympic Games - Barcelona 1992 "Barcelona", London 2012 "We Will Rock You" and this year Tokyo 2020-2021 "Teo Torriatte" (Let Us Cling Together). Truly legendary band and timeless music. It's worth it. Thanks for the great reaction!
Freddie wrote Barcelona for Montserrat. He loved her voice and wanted to sing with her. This isn't a cover it is the composer and original artists, Freddie and Montserrat.
A true musical love affair!! Freddie absolutely loved Montserrat Cabelle’, his fav female opera singer. He sent Montsy a demo called EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE which later was called ENSUENO on the Barcelona Album with Montsy. Just Beautiful. 🌷🌷 Barcelona was the theme song for the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. Sadly, Freddie passed away in 1991. RIP & HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FREDDIE 🎂🎂✨✨
Olympic Games...we in Europe all cryed every time we heard this song..i was little when i first hear it and i ve cryed so much! That was made by Freddy and sing at the Olympic Games...😢😢🥰🥰
Montsy was Freddie's favorite singer and he idolized her. She found this out and wanted to meet him. They became fast friends. Had Freddie lived this song would most likely have been used as the official song for the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona
Freddie co-wrote this song. Always interested in Opera from the beginning with Bohemian Rhapsody and then the Album, "A Night at the Opera". He couldn't help but be a rock star even in an opera setting.
This was his last live performance . The last time he perfomed before a real audience although the sound is a recorded track . His voice is in playback. Many people think Knebworth 86 was his last live performance and it was , with his band Queen and singing live . But this one , was the very last time someone could see him on a stage .
I'm curious. There would be appear to be two separate performances, distinguished by the presentation and both wearing entirely different outfits. This performance I dearly love far more than the one other reactors react to.
quick youtube search - yep beste zangers. you did a reaction 2 months ago. Freddy was really into opera, and even a fan of montserrat caballé. this is like floor jansen and henk poort together :)

I honestly did not know that that was his last performance Andrea. It was a beautiful performance for sure. He was a great man and alot for awareness and music. No one around the world will ever forget that. Thank you for sharing I appreciate that. Much love to you.
He really could do anything. He once said of himself, “I’m just a musical prostitute my dear.” Both legends, & Mike Moran ain’t too shabby either. Great reaction.

From way before my time. But this. This is gold. Gives me goosebumps (kippenvel, in Dutch😉). Every. Single. Time.
