These old British films stand the test of time, George Cole of Minder fame as a boy who acted well. My father use to build the film sets around the time I was born and I have photographs of him with these actors of that time. Thank you for posting.
Lovely to here that ole Top... the bit about your Father.. Yes, Georgie was in top form. Alastair Sim could play any part... always liked Alec Guinness in, "The Card" with gorgeous Valerie Hobson and a young Petula Clark. and "Sink Me" I can never forget Leslie Howard as the Scarlet Pimpernel. The good old days. Always liked seeing Triumph and BSA motorcycles in the films. I've had both... too old to ride now. Nothing sounds like a cammed up Bonneville at full chat. Peace out from Texas.
I believe George Cole was a protege of alistair sim’s. I might be making this last bit up but I think alistair sim and his wife adopted the young Cole. They certainly took him under their wing.
I was immediately captivated by this film when I recognised a young George Cole, who was so good! It might be an old film but it has more merit than some modern movies
I started the movie while doing some sewing but have had to stop it to come back to later & watch with my full attention... I can tell it's going to be a good one!
This has always been one of my favourite films. It was based on a stage play, and was George Cole's very first screen appearance - Alistair Sim was, in effect, his adoptive father, and sensational in this film. If you want another Alistair Sim gem, hunt down Green For Danger, a wartime hospital murder mystery. Leslie Banks was a remarkable actor and human being - badly injured in WW!, when playing the hero he was photographed from his good side, when playing the villain from his 'bad' side. He played the quirky Inspector Slade in another classic murder mystery, The Arsenal Stadium Mystery, which combined real life footballers with murder sleuthing.
A nice surprise. Was wondering what I was in for when I started as it has a very comical beginning. But surprised with an espionage film. And a truly great one at that. Just outstanding in every respect. 4 🌟
You know that WW1 took out huge chunks of the British, French, German etc male population so lots of kids during this time had no fathers either. And that’s before you factor in fathers dying in WW2 which was going on when this was filmed.
This is the youngest role I have watched actor George Cole, who went on to play Flash Harry in the St. Trinians films and Arthur Daley fame later in his life in the successful Minder series. He was so good in this early film from 1941.
Really good film, love it, but ridiculous amount of adverts interrupting it all the time. Lovely to see Alastair Sim and George Cole together, so long before the St Trinian's films
@@frankie3041 Respects, he could hardly mention his eye for a dishy nurse. Her in doors you know. Just protocol. Now if you'd like to buy a very reasonable priced 1962 Jaguar with a slightly damaged clock you and he could do some quick bussiness. But it's got to be quick. LOL
This is a " Comedy, Mystery, Thriller, War" that's a very mixed bag isn't it for a war movie. It rather proves bankers influence in movies & in fomented wars, in reality there was nothing comical about ww2 the death of 50- 80 million people and a hell on earth for many since then.

Love british movies and actors, they're the best in the world. Thank you for sharing.
Are you British?
@@monicaclark9581 No. I'm Mexican born in USA. I do love good movies and good actors though. Is there a problem?
Yes ❤ but also Kdramas. Fabulous ❤
Don't have to be British to appreciate Brit cinema.
@@ccc4102 what does Kdrama mean?
Fabulous, thank you. You can’t beat the old films., They are straight to the point and no silly shenanigans to take away from the film. 🥳🥂
Thanks for this. Brilliant old film, with some of the best British actors ever.🥰
If Alastair Sim is in it then i'm watching.
thank you so much for posting.
DOUBLE DITTO!

Just a few minutes in and he looks as shifty as ever.
Great film cheered us no end! What a grand cast especially George Cole who was a born actor succeeded in films and tv later on!
August 1941 release, super young George Cole. Really enjoyed this one lots of plot twists. Thanks very much for the viewing.
I started the movie while doing some sewing but have had to stop it to come back to later & watch with my full attention... I can tell it's going to be a good one!
Great cast. Alastair Sim, John Mills, Michael Wilding, and more! I do hate it when the site clips off the very ending though!
People in those years dressed descently even in ordinary days😍
Decently. :)

@@robertwalker5521 You're welcome. No such word as descently. English can be tricky. I'm always learning. 🧡

Alistair Sim, the best Scrooge ever…
I'm glad to hear you say that because whenever christmas comes around, I wait for him and they hardly ever do this
💯
Thank you so much for posting this gem.
Look for Green for Danger. Alistair Simpson. Brilliant film
Love it, what a wonderful cast!!
From the reviews 😊 i will have a early night tonight watching this film 😊
Back when there was a story to the film, not like now when it's all murder and killings, no wonder kids are killing each other, no morals, no fathers😢
You know that WW1 took out huge chunks of the British, French, German etc male population so lots of kids during this time had no fathers either. And that’s before you factor in fathers dying in WW2 which was going on when this was filmed.
Good movie. Great characters.
George Cole was such a total natural!

Thank you for telling me he was flash.Harry, I love that character and those films I never knew
Great stuff!❤
Lovely movie.
Alistair sim. My favourite thank you ever so much ❤
Kept me guessing which characters were German agents for most of the movie. Good movie. It was as if Agatha Christie wrote a WWII spy story!
The matriarch cracked me up! Good actress.
No, Not Agatha Christie, but a German. LOL. Well not so much a German but Anatole de Grunwald From Saint Petersberg.
@@MikeGreenwood51 I said it was as if she had written a spy story.
@@frankie3041 Okay-I get it. 'As if'.
Edit: Just checked on IMDB that this was George Cole’s first film rol. That English Youngster was a really good actor.
What a wonderful movie 🍿 🎉

I'm watching it right now and there are no commercials at all struggles
Great movie 🤩🤩💖

Confusing, can't keep them straight, except the kid. He's the only one who is consistent. Naughty, but consistent.
George Cole looks so cute !
Great!!!!!!!!!
What a cast, arfur Daley 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fantastic British movie.. an entire weir of Red Herrings... where's Lord Peter Wimsey when we need him.....
I just love black and white movies, wholesome and without wokeness 😳🤣. An actual script and superb acting from George Cole 😄
I agree with the exception of Selznick and Disney.

Spike MIlligan did pretty well.
I made it halfway through just because of the young teen. I liked him, but the others, not so much. I really don't care for British movies.
Written by a Russian, Anatole de Grunwald. Maybe if you are in the USA you would prefer his 'Penn of Pennsylvania - 1942'.
Arthur Daley's first film
