Hey Divas!! I am in the process of transitioning to natural hair. It has been 1 year and 6 months since my last relaxer. I wanted to do an Q&A video to help answer most of my frequently asked questions… There's also a giveaway! Details are at the end of the video!
Girl love your channel😍(i am transitioning to all natural i am now 1 year natural my recent hair problem is trying to not put heat on my hair😤) keep up the GREAT work👍
Heyyyy Honey Bunny!! I know what you mean when you say not to put too much heat on your hair! Protective styling is key, I have to do the same! Thanks so much for stopping by and for entering into the contest! XOXO ❤️
I've been transitioning for 6 almost 7 months. my hair had been thinning when I started relaxing far too often and then I started stretching my relaxers. I realized then that I liked how thick my hair was coming in so I stretched further and decided to go natural. the only real problem I have right now is that no matter how moisturized my hair is it can sometimes look dry. love your videos!
Hey Devon!! Thanks so much for stopping by and congratulations for making it to that 6-7 month part; you are a trooper! You got this! I know what you mean by dryness... I had to overcome that. What really helped me was adding (refrigerated) aloe vera juice to my deep conditioning regimen. Once I deep condition, I rinse my hair with COLD water. I began to see a difference in how my hair retained the moisture in a matter of minutes... Even on rainy days... My hair began to act right. I couldn't believe it! Hopefully that works for you too. ❤️
I was so happy when you told us how you arrived at your decision to go natural as it mirrored my own. TH-cam had me stretching my relaxers out and every time it got easier and easier. I still prefer my hair straight but I like the ability to wear it curly and how full my hair looks when straight. Thank you so much for sharing it makes me feel better knowing that someone else feels as I do. 1. I am fully natural. I transitioned for two years and cut off the last bit of relaxer March 2015. 2. My problem is split ends. I am dusting constantly but I am always finding split ends.
Yaaaas!! I feel like my hair grows best when I leave it straightened (only because it is easier for me to manage). I lovvvve wearing it curly but leaving it straight lets me see how my ends look and also keeps my hair from getting tangled. Split ends is definitely my issue; mainly because I use more heat than most transitioning naturals. I try to pay close attention to my ends and am still working on finding a better method to address them. It's refreshing to see someone who is transitioning the same as me! Thanks for watching and for entering into the contest! ❤️
Hello Denay, new subbie here. I am actually transitioning as of now. I relaxed my hair about 6 months ago after being natural for a year. Being that I have 4c type hair, it was becoming a little too much to handle at the time; however since then, my hair has completely broken off. I noticed that my hair actually thrives much better in its natural state so I decided to start over and to embrace my natural. My plan now is to learn my hair and to be patient. I've fallen in to the "well if she can do or use that for her hair then I can too" category way to often so now my goal is to push for healthier hair, MY healthier hair!! Thank you for the tips and tricks!! Love your channel and good luck to all!!! :-)
Wow, although you had a minor setback, it is great to know that you know what your hair likes/dislikes. You'll be back in action in no-time! And yes, finding YOUR healthy hair is what is MOST important. Your journey is so inspiring! I love self-improvement and self-identification! You got this boo! ❤️ Keep me posted on your hair journey!! XOXO
Your hair looks so healthy. My texlaxed hair is mid-back length so I was afraid to transition to natural from fear I would lose my length but you have inspired me to continue. Im only 6 months post but Im going to keep going! Great video
Yaaaaas!! Your hair is POPPIN boo!! Congrats on such a beautiful journey!! I know how you feel; being hesitant on transitioning. It is such a huge step but I'm sure you'll make the right choice! I'm always here if you want to bounce hair ideas off of each other! ❤️💕 Thanks for entering into the contest!
I'm a new subbie and this video was very interesting to me. Although I have never been in the transitioning phase (always have been natural) I found your answer to be helpful in different ways. I am natural and have been all my life. I used to straighten my hair like once every week and over time my hair became damaged. I have lost a lot of length due to the damage my hair acquired. My hair is almost never in its "natural" state. I usually do twist outs or braid outs to try and protect my hair from further damage. I am starting to see a slight change in my hairs health since I have stopped putting heat on my hair. My hair is very coily, it almost forms a complete fro when dry lol. I have been learning to just love my hair and stop looking at other naturals wishing my hair was like theirs. It's been a hard journey for me because I feel like most times I'm at my wits end with my hair. It is very dry and takes a lot to moisturize and I tend to get build up VERY quickly. Also it's hard being a natural on a very very tight budget. As I'm sure my curlies know it's not necessarily cheap to be a naturalista. My hair tends to break a lot and tangles fairly easily. I don't really have any super to die for favs because I never really have the money to try out different things. But I would love to have something super moisturizing that would help with breakage and promotes hair growth. This was super long, sorry lol. Thank you for the video and good luck with your transition love 😊.
Thanks SO much Sosa for commenting. I agree, I'm balling on a budget and I don't like spending all of my money on hair products; especially on hair products that I'm not so sure about. Your hair sounds SO beautiful; I'm glad that you are finding that self-love towards your hair! Self-love is a beautiful thing! I would definitely recommend you trying aloe vera juice; it is easy to find, inexpensive, AND it adds moisture and gives your hair a nice pH balance. Thanks for watching!
YES! Aloe vera has been a life saver for me! I use pure aloe vera from the plant and mix it with olive oil every week and use it as a pre-wash deep condition for 1 hr. Then I rinse it out. I like using the cantu leave-in conditioner as a pre-wash deep condition before I wash my hair too. Love it! 8 months post and counting..!
I've been on my transitioning journey for nearly 1 year now and it's been going great. But one of the main problems is that I have low porosity hair and the fact that my hair shrinks by 10cm. Also I've used many products to help with making my curves defined but haven't find the right one for my hair yet. I just wonna say keep up with the hard work and good luck in your transition! And your hair looking beautiful girllll
Thanks for watching Ayesha and for also entering into the contest! Have you tried stretching your hair using the banding method? That helps stretch your hair without heat and can make your curls pop without shrinkage. Also, have you tried twisting/flat twisting your hair to make your curls more defined? Maybe that will help as well.
Hello! I have been transitioning for 8 months. It's a different experience for me as I have been relaxed at a young age. I have issues right now with retaining moisture and the front of my crown is thinner. I know that's from being relaxed and the poor process that was done most of my life. With transitioning I do feel more thickness though and I am loving the experience of seeing my natural texture. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hey Mony, I know EXACTLY what you mean! I had over-processed the nape of my hair for YEAAAARS which has finally been fixed.... and then I had a setback in my crown area; I'm still correcting that issue. Give it some time and some TLC. You'll be back up in no-time! Congrats on your transitioning journey; we are definitely in this together! And yes, seeing my natural texture has been SO encouraging and keeps me holding on as well! Thanks for watching and for entering into the giveaway! XOXO ❤️.
I have been fully natural for over a year. Before that, I transitioned for 15 months. My biggest hair problem is breakage and shedding. I have fine strands and I am still learning how to style my hair without putting too much stress on my ends. Also, I need to get better at moisturizing my ends as well.
Congrats on your hair journey!! I know what you mean when it comes to not wanting to put much stress on your ends and keeping them moisturized. Thanks for entering into the giveaway!
Thanks for watching and entering into the giveaway! Have you tried using ACV in your shampoo to help clarify your hair and clear away dandruff? After doing that, add your deep conditioner and when you are finished conditioning, rinse it out with cold water. I promise you'll see a difference in your hair after a few months of using that regimen. ❤️
Your hair looks so beautiful and healthy. December 23rd will be my 2 1/2 year mark or me being natural. I did my big chop on November 9th of last year, and since then, I have noticed that my hair is very heat sensitive. I really love the blow out look, but I'm so scared to put heat on my hair because it is so easily damaged, even with the use of heat protectant products. It had really done some significant damage to my curl pattern when I was transitioning. So far I have been avoiding all heat except for when I do my weekly deep condition to moisturize my low porosity hair. Despite everything, going natural has been one of the best decisions I have ever made! I'm happy to see your journey is going well. 😊 #teamnatural #coilygirlpower
Hey Ty!! Congratulations on your hair journey! It's so good to see that you know the limits of your hair; that you know what it likes and what it doesn't like... That way, you don't severely damage your hair in the process. I'm happy for you and wish you nothing but the best on your journey! XOXO ❤️
New subscriber! I just want to say I love how informative your videos are! It gives newly transitioners like me hope, plus you're beautiful! Keep the videos coming.
Natasha, thanks SO much for stopping by and entering into the contest!! Congratulations on deciding to transition! Wishing you a very successful journey. I truly appreciate your kind words and I thank you SO much for watching!! More vids to come! XOXO 💕
Hi Diva! Your hair is gorgeous and has grown so much since I started following you! I am relaxed and my problem is breakage and dry scalp, mostly just towards the front. No matter what I try, I cant get relief.
Thanks for commenting and for sticking around for so long! I appreciate you boo! And thanks, I'm having so much fun on this journey, I hope my vids help! What products do you use? Is the front of your hair a different texture than the back of your hair? I would love to help anyway that I can. 😉
DenayTheDiva The front of my hair is a little more coarse than the rest. Particularly around the "widows peak" area, it is always dry and itchy, always. Thats really the only place. When I started following you, I began using the ogx products along with coconut oil. I try to wash and condition at least once a week.
Hi, I am natural. I did my big chop last December and it was a big change for me. Right now I'm focusing on growing out my heat damage in the front of my hair. That part of my hair is shorter then the rest and makes styling hard for me. Thanks for your tips.
Anytime Delicia, thanks so much for entering into the contest!! Halo braids are definitely in right now. It's a perfect style to wear while masking the front and gives you time to grow it out while waiting!
Your hair looks thicker and healthier. .. I love it! One thing about products, u have to find whats going to work for your hair... its a journey but it's definitely worth it...Well u know I'm team natural and my shredding but I think it's due my health issues...
I agree Jaye Lo! Finding what works best for you is key! And don't get me started on your natural hair! It is SO beautiful and wavy!! I lovvvvve it! Thanks for watching!!
Your hair looks very pretty and healthy, I've always considered transitioning but now that you are in can learn a little something from you. Anyway, if you color your hair what brand and color do you use I love that color 😍😍
Thanks for watching Kay!! I hope you learn a lot, feel free to ask any questions... I may have not addressed everything in this one video. I have never colored my hair before but thank you for the compliment! 💕
I am transitioning and I have been transitioning for a year now. My biggest hair problem is moisture. I feel like whenever I style my it feels dry, no matter how much I deep condition. Thank you so much for this video! It gave me so many tips to help with my journey to natural hair.
Uhunoma thanks SO much for watching my video and for entering into the contest! Hopefully my tips work for you. Feel free to tweak any of the products if you see that something else works better! XOXO ❤️
Hey! I am currently transitioning (9 months post relaxer) and my hair is extremely dry. I wear a lot of twist outs, braid outs, and buns. Your hair is gorgeous but I am really trying to stay away from heat. I may blow-dry it sometimes but I have only flat-ironed my hair twice since I decided to transition.
Yes, staying away from heat is a good thing! I flat iron once every two weeks IF I want a straight hairstyle. Otherwise, I stick to braid-outs, twist outs, bantu knots and other protective styles. I have a lot of videos with those styles as well! Congratulations on your transitioning journey, wishing you the best!
I am currently transitioning. But my biggest hair problem is trying to get my hair to retain length because when I was relaxed my beautician was over processing my hair which caused major breakage and damage. My ultimate goal is to have healthy hair and to recover from the damage.
I know exactly what you mean! I had over-processed the nape area of my hair SO much that I thought it was at a point or no return. But once I began transitioning, I started concentrating my deep conditioning and moisture massage in that area and next thing you know, my nape is almost to bra strap length... I can hardly believe it. One thing I will say is, don't give up... keep pushing! I truly believe heat damaged hair is repairable if caught early. Using hydrolyzed Keratin helps repair heat damage and chemical damage... try using the same brand of shampoo that I'm using. I really think that it will help restore your hair's health. (Organix Keratin Oil Shampoo & Conditioner) - the pink bottle. You should feel/see a difference after a few uses... what types of products do you currently use? I'm thinking that you may need to add an equal amount of protein/moisture to you hair in order to help with the shedding. ❤️
I am currently lost with my hair position want to transition to natural. Since I was diagnosed with Alopecia I wanted to step back on relaxers for my scalp. I use the same shampoo brand you use except I use the Biotin kind. I didnt know to rinse in cold water that may be my problem with dryness. Thanks for the video DIVA! 😘😘
Yes, your hair is going to see the difference immediately once you start rinsing with cold water. Just get ready for that moment when the cold water touches your scalp!! * *brain freeze* * LOL... thanks so much for watching!! I'm glad that OFX is working well for you! Try using aloe vera juice + tea tree oil, that combo helps soothe and softly repairs your scalp while making your hair super soft to touch, as well! ❤️
Im on it. I watched the video twice and took notes. My hair grew alot in a year and thank God for the thickness coming with it now I need to keep it moist with the weather and hard water here in Texas its a struggle
I'm natural have been for 2 years. Did the big chop and everything. I have a problem with dry ends it's always been problem. Also the white residue when I use natural products on my hair when I don't want to straighten it. Like the curling cream or gels. And it left me having split ends. Bc i would have to wash it out more often Bc of the white residue. I would really like to tame my hair so that it's healthy and strong and beautiful like yours! Also I'm having a tough time with finding the right shampoo and conditioners. To follow that with the heat protectant to flat iron my hair. Thanks for your time! 👍🏽 love your channel. Btw.
Thanks Robin for supporting my channel!! I can definitely help you out one day! And yes, that white residue sucks... I've experienced it SO many times! Do you use sulfate-free shampoos?
Jasmine, thanks SO much for watching! I know you can do it! If you have any questions, I'll be more than proud to help. Transition when you are completely ready; don't rush it.
First off, I love your hair! I would give anything for my hair to shine like that. I am currently transitioning to natural and have been on this journey for exactly a year as of 10/4/2016. I decided to transition due to years of relaxers that eventually caused my hair to become damaged and very thin. I am hoping to gain healthier thicker hair from this process. My current issue is trying to find the balance between moisture and protein without losing my hair. My hair is thickening up, however it is still very dry and dull looking. I am also cutting as I go, can't wait to be on your level!!
Hi Nakeysha, thanks so much for watching and for entering into the contest! I know EXACTLY what you mean when wanting to have the right protein-moisture balance. Aloe vera juice is PERFECT for adding moisture and for also getting a good pH balance. It also closes the cuticle; locking the moisture into your strands. It has transformed my hair from dry to very moisturized AND strong. I highly recommend it. ❤️
Hey Denay Diva! Loved the video, because you and your hair are so beautiful. I am transitioning since March. You encouraged me to hold on. I stopped relaxing because I didn't wanted to be dependant on relaxers. I really want to love my own hair and want it to be strong & healthy. My main problem is that my hair is horribly dry and does not seem to take any moisture, no matter what I do. I tried different products and methods, I always deep condition and did oil & protein treatments, but nothing seems to help. I believe I am suffering of scab hair, because my relaxed hair is not managable at all. I would be so grateful for any tips and recommendations. Wish you all the best
Hi Sammy, thanks so much for watching my video! I know what you mean; I didn't want to be reliant on relaxers as well. That's great that we can encourage each other. Since you are having issues with a dry, itchy, and possibly inflamed scalp, I would recommend rinsing/spraying your hair/scalp with aloe vera juice... Aloe vera juice is great for soothing and repairing your scalp and also helps heal scarring and scabs. It is also great for the skin as well. Make sure that you use it while cold; put your conditioner in your hair after you poured the aloe vera juice in your hair (let it sit for 20-30 minutes) and then rinse out with cold water. Cold water is key; it keeps the moisture in your strands and makes your hair SO soft the more that you use it. When you are finished, add peppermint oil to your scalp. It also helps to repair your scalp, smells minty, and gives your scalp a great tingle which promotes hair growth. Let me know if this works! XOXO
Thanks so much for watching Wattisa and thanks for the compliments! Yes, dealing with two different textures is a HUGE problem while transitioning. What products do you like to use? Thanks for entering into the giveaway!
Your hair is very beautiful...how exactly do heat train and will you heat train when your natural. I have heard of straight naturals is that what you are going to be when your completely natural. Sorry for all the questions just trying to figure this all out. Thank You for your help..God bless
Hi Dwanda! Thanks so much for watching! Heat training is simply training your hair to take heat; that way when you wear flat iron hairstyles, your hair doesn't revert back to a curly texture while flat ironed... It also allows you to keep your natural curl pattern IF (only IF) you do it right... The thing with heat training is that I am ensuring that I do not cause heat damage while training. Deep conditioning my hair and avidly using heat protectants is helping with my journey. I don't manipulate my hair much outside of flat ironing... but when I do, I prepare my hair prior to working with it. Some say that one is not completely natural if they use heat/styling tools and such... I beg to differ. It is my belief that if the hair is growing out of my scalp, it is mine... As long as I do not chemically alter my hair (relaxers, texturizers, etc.), I consider myself natural. Honestly, the question is controversial and it is up to you to decide what you consider is natural or not... It is all subjective.
Hey boo!! I know how crazy heat damage can be! The good thing is, it can be corrected if addressed soon enough. I'm so happy to see you rocking your natural hair girl! Sending *hair growth vibes* your way! LOL Congratulations on your journey and thanks so much for watching!!
I am currently transitioning. I am about 6 months into it. I have relatively thin hair. I have done a BigChop but girl my head too too big to rock a TWA. now that I am transitioning I am finding it hard to handle two different textures in my hair and I'm tempted to chop it all off. btw I'm four months pregnant. Good luck on your journey
Congratulations on your pregnancy!! You have a lot to deal with; learning your natural hair while also maintaining a healthy pregnancy. What better way to transition! Pregnancy is perfect for hair growth so I'm sure you're going to grow it out in no time! To help with handling two textures, keep those roots happy by moisturizing and staying on top of your deep conditioning regimen. You got this boo! ❤️
Hello. Trying to go natural by transitioning for the first time. I haven’t relaxed my hair since mid December. In February I started getting crochet braids. But in the past 5 weeks I have had that done twice and have spent $350 so far. Looking to get protective style that will last a little longer. Looking to get a sew in with lace front but keep hearing horror stories about edges being list because of the glue that is used. Is there any truth to this in your opinion? If so how can it be avoided? Thanks A Bunch!
Hello Queen! I am soooo sorry your comment got lost in my notifications! Were you able to try the sew-in with lacefront yet? If so, I would just recommend that you be careful and give your hair TLC when it needs it. When you are removing the unit, I highly recommended that you saturate the frontal part of the wig with water that way it can slide off gently versus the glue pulling your edges out... Let me know how it goes! XOXO
I am currently transitioning (9 months). My biggest hair problem right now is that I'm getting adjusted to how thick my natural hair is versus the relaxed hair. Sometimes it is difficult to detangle with the mixture of relaxed & natural.
Hi Crystal, thanks so much for stopping by and entering into the giveaway. Having two textures was rough for me as well. I found that deep conditioning really helped with my detangling process. Try adding aloe vera juice to your deep conditioning concoction... or you can pour the cold juice on your scalp and you'd be surprised! It works amazingly! ❤️
I just love your hair.. your length and thickness is what I'm aiming for but I am all natural I been natural for about 3 years and still can't find the right products for my hair.. but I also stay getting braids and never really condition it and keep it moisturized. so my question for you is what products can I use to keep moisture in it and get it to continue growing..? I stay buying alot of different products to find the right ones.. but I'm going to try all the products you just gave in your video and condition it and see how that goes.. but I believe you answered all my questions in your video.
Hey girrrrl! I know what you mean, braids and weaves are so perfect and convenient. I think the Organix brand will work AMAZING on your hair especially since it is sulfate-free. When you add conditioner to your hair, be sure to rinse it out with cold water... after a few months of doing that, you are going to see a huge difference in your hair! Keep me posted if you need any more suggestions, I'll be happy to help! XOXO ❤️
Thanks for the video! I have been on my natural hair journey since February 2015. Much like you, I prefer to transition slowly by cutting the ends and flat ironing. I do, however love the look and feel of my curls fresh out of the shower, but can't seem to find the right products to maintain a healthy look once my curls dry. Any suggestions??
Hi Nitika, thanks so much for watching!! I have been working on my curls as well! I am not comfortable doing a wash & go at the moment but once my relaxed hair is all cut off, I am going to do more exploring on how to maintain my curls while maintaining moisture and no frizz. At the moment, I use EveryStrand's Curling Creme which is good and I seal it with oil... I have a few twist out videos if you want more deets. But at this time, I don't have anything for actual wash-n-go's. I will say that aloe vera juice and my deep conditioner REALLY brings out the POP in my natural curls... I'm definitely going to keep testing out products that give my curls moisture and will do an UPDATE video in the next few months. Thanks so much for watching and for entering into the giveaway! XOXO ❤️
after you shampoo and condition your hair do you use warm water to rinse your hair out? both times? then after you put on the hair Mass the aloe vera and the plastic cap and sit for a while then do you use Coldwater to rinse out your hair.
1. I use WARM water to wash out my shampoo. 2. I add my conditioner, deep conditioner, and cold-refrigerated aloe vera juice. 3. I use COLD water to rinse out my conditioner. NOTE: Cold water locks the moisture in. If you use warm water after you have conditioned, it washes all of the moisture that you added down the drain. :)
Hey, I am now 2 months post relaxer :( . I was transitioning to natural for about 7 - 8 months before I did the relaxer in August / September and during the process my hair would shed , a lot and it wouldn't hold moisture I really desired to be natural badly so I could have healthier hair without the excessive chemicals . I really didn't know what to do, but now I have a better outlook and would like to try transitioning again . Also, I am also happy that I found your Channel
Alyasia, I'm so happy you found my channel too!! Thanks so much for watching and for entering into the giveaway! Feel free to ask any hair questions along the way, I'm only a click and a video away! I am very confident that your next go-round will be SOOO MUCH better! XOXO
Chocofraise Kelly thanks SO much for sharing your hair journey with me! I, too, wanted to have relaxed hair so my hair could look like everyone else's. I didn't realize how beautiful my hair was because I was too focused on trying to fit in. But now that I am older, wiser, and stronger, I am proud to accept my hair for what it is and to embrace it completely. I am SOOO happy you feel the same way! Wearing crochet braids is a PERFECT way to protect your hair while transitioning. Just remember to take care of your hair while wearing the style. So while you have braids in, make sure that you oil your scalp and keep it moisturized. When you are finished wearing the crochets, make sure that you are washing your hair thoroughly and that you also deep condition; to restore your hair and give it the attention that it needs. How does your hair feel? Is it too hard? Brittle? Dry? This will help me determine what products work best for you. When was the last time you got a trim? What has REALLY worked for me is aloe vera juice, I highly recommend for you to give it a try. Follow these steps: 1. Wash your hair with shampoo. 2. Rinse your hair with WARM water. 3. Pour (cold-refrigerated) aloe vera juice on your hair. (Drench your hair and your scalp in it) 4. Add conditioner to your strands. 5. Place a shower cap on your head and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. 6. Rinse your hair with COLD water. 7. Detangle 8. Add oil and style your hair You should definitely see a change in your hair after a matter of washes! Please let me know how this works for you!!
I enjoyed your video! Very informative! I am 3 months out from my last relaxer. Not sure if I'm going natural or back to relaxers. I'm an Instructor for a local college and I always keep a bone straight professional hair style, but going natural won't allow this look for me (or will it?) Also, I workout everyday and my hair sweats sooooooo bad. It is damaged in the back from my workouts. At this point, what can help me??!!
Hi Carmenitha! Thanks so much for watching and entering into the contest. As of now, I am training my hair to wear my hair straight and it's been working thus far. I also workout 4x per week and have been maintaining my flat ironed hairstyle which I'm SO happy about. It is definitely possible! ❤️
Hi Diva I am just now seeing this video I am in the process of transitioning it has been about 4 months since I've had a relaxer I am having some issues with my edges in the temple area my hair is thin and not quite bald because I've been using the black jam. castor oil and massaging those areas and taking hair vitamins I was at the point of giving up on this process of transitioning until I came across this video today I praise God for you I was about to get a texturizer on my next visit to the salon but now I am completely committed to seeing this through my hair was similar to the way your mane is today before relaxers/chemicals and it is shocking to see how far I've come since then but Thank you so much so the inspiration you have no idea how much just seeing this video got me back on track/ focused God Bless You Thanks again
I am SO happy for you and am SO thankful that my video has helped you! To God be the glory! I am with you on this journey so if you need anything; have questions/concerns, feel free to reach out! I am utterly surprised with how well my transitioning journey is going... Words cannot describe how happy I am about the decision to transition. I loved my relaxed hair but I lovvvve my transitioning hair even more. This entire journey has been eye-opening. I am all about having healthy hair; no matter if relaxed or natural. I pray that my suggestions work for you and give you the results that you are seeking! XOXO
Hey! Love your videos. You make it effortless and easy. I am 8 months post relaxer. The big chop has held no interest at all so my sister and are transitioning. I have been doing crochet hair styles as a protective measure. The longer I go I have determined detangling my relaxed hair is difficult and I am pulling out quite a bit of hair even after using a detangler. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I used to hate detangling! Once I realized what worked for me, it's not that bad anymore... I found it easiest to detangle after I have deep conditioned. Adding aloe vera juice to my deep conditioning mixture made my hair soft which loosened up the kinks and make it easier for me to comb thru my hair. I purchased 'Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera juice' from Dillon's in the natural-food section of the store. Let me know if it works for you!! And yes, I wasn't interested in the big chop as well... The change was too drastic for me. 😊
I agree, straight hair is easier for me maintenance-wise. It let's me keep my hair detangled and easier to know when I need to deep condition, add moisture, add protein, etc. I love my twist-outs, braid-outs, and all of that but it is SO much easier for me to identify my hair's health (outside of checking my curl pattern) while straight. Thanks for watching Stormi, I hope the aloe vera juice helps!
Hey, I enjoy the video very much I am transitioning as well for 8 months and my hair takes up all the moisturizer and becomes dry. Another problem is the middle of my hair is thick while everywhere else is thin. I'm ready to perm again but I just want to give my natural hair hope again
Keep on holding on Nakiya! The middle part of my hair is definitely the thickest part for me as well... Have you tried using aloe vera juice? Rinsing my hair in cold aloe vera juice with my deep conditioner has REALLY helped me and I think it may help you too! XOXO Thanks for watching and for entering into the giveaway!
Thanks for entering into the contest Bria!! You must have some gorgeous thick hair! I'd love to see more pix so I can help refer you to some great products. What's your IG? Let's connect! ❤️💕
I'm in between relaxed and transistioning. I don't know if I'll fully transistion but it's been 4 months since I got a perm so I'll need to decide very soon lol. I think I'll just go and get a perm because my hair is feeling so dry and nappy at the roots no matter what I do. I'd love to be natural, I just don't have faith in myself being able to care for it properly or having enough time to care for natural hair. My roommate is natural and her hair is long and gorgeous when she straightens it and her twist outs are soooo cute! I'd just hate to transistion and completely hate my natural hair or not be able to care for it so I'm not sure what I'll do. So far though, the perm is looking like my best bet.
DellPickles hey, if you don't feel ready to go natural don't do it but I just wanted to say that your new growth will require deep conditioning with a moisturizing conditioner. Depending on your porosity and your hairs ability to absorb moisture will determine if you have to deep with heat or not. When I would stretch that new growth would be the hardest part to deal with until I started deep conditioning every time I washed. It does get easier, when you know how to take care of it
MrsDamara Thanks for the advice! I think I'm going to go for it and let my hair fully transistion. What kind of deep conditioner did you use? Do you have any other tips or products you recommend for making a healthy hair transistion process? I'd really appreciate any suggestions that'll keep my hair from breaking off and continue growing. I don't want to do the big chop of anything like that. I'd prefer to cut it little by little as it grows and be able to wear my own hair everyday, rather than a weave.
DellPickles well deep conditioners is still a struggle, I recommend going to a beauty supply shop and buying the pillow packs and trying ones out to find one that works for you. I haven't found a favorite myself but I like the shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil one. My suggestions are be patient with wash day, the detangling process can be rough and cause you to have breakage from rough treatment. I wore my hair straight cuz it was easier although many naturals say that's a bad idea as you can damage the new curls coming in. If that is a concern I would say blow dry on cool. Also pay attention to how you hair feels everyday so you can stay on top of what your hair needs. Good luck with your transition! I am glad I did it and wished I had done it sooner. I felt like a relaxer was an unnecessary step in having straight hair😊
MrsDamara Thanks so much for all the helpful tips! I'm planning on going shopping today to get some new products to try out. I've heard many good things about the shea moisture Jamacian one so I'll definitely give that one a try. Are there any moisturizers you recommend? The one I use now seems to work fine for the relaxed part of my hair, but not so much for the natural hair coming in.
Thanks so much for watching and entering into the giveaway!! It may seem like a struggle now but keep on pushing boo! You've already made it to 4 months; that's amazing with itself! I'm sure your natural tresses are beautiful, just give it some more time. Keep those roots moisturized and it will make your natural journey that much better! ❤️ I recommend EveryStrand's deep conditioning hair masque. It has changed my life!! You can purchase it at Sally's or you can use the link I provided to get it from Amazon!
I am transitioning from relaxed to natural. I haven't seen my natural hair since I entered the 9th grade, soooo many years ago. I do remember my hair being very dry before my 1st relaxer.
Hi Teressa, we have the same story! Congratulations on your decision to transition back to natural hair. We are definitely in this journey together! Since you remember your hair being dry, I would recommend for you to find a hair agent that is FULL of moisture. The thing that helped me most is water and aloe vera juice. My hair has made such a huge transformation. When I first began transitioning, it was quite hard... I had not tried adding aloe vera juice to my conditioning regimen... But once I did, ohhhhh boy! It was a game changer!! Make sure you rinse out your conditioner with cold water and that you always use cold aloe vera juice.... you will see how your hair holds moisture and the shampoo/conditioning process will be less dreadful! XOXO 💕
I've been natural for about 7 months, my hair problem would have to be dryness and, I would like more hair growth lol. Good luck with your hair journey wish you the absolute best! God Bless!
Jasmine, thanks SO much for watching the video and entering into the contest! I know what you mean by dryness! I experienced that in the beginning of my journey and finally overcame it (by finding out what worked) by the 8-month mark... THANKFULLY! Keep pressing boo!! I would highly recommend that you use a moisture/water-based product on your hair frequently. If you don't like to add products to your hair daily, I would recommend that you do as I do by washing your hair frequently and using aloe vera juice as a moisture component for conditioning. Normally after rinsing my shampoo out with WARM water, I add COLD (refrigerated) aloe vera juice to my hair strands and also to my scalp. Aloe vera juice restores your hair's pH balance while also giving you the right amount of moisture and protein. Aloe vera juice is also good for the scalp because it heals it from dryness/itchy scalp and also promotes hair growth. After I add the liquid (cold aloe vera juice), I add my deep conditioning masque to my hair, along with my Organix conditioner... I place a cap on my head for 20-30 minutes; maybe even an hour on a good day. Once I am finished, I rinse with COLD water (which locks in the moisture)... From there, I like to add oils and prepare my hair for styling. You'll be surprised how fast your hair bounces back into good health the more that you keep using moisture products in your regimen. If you try it, let me know how that works for you!
My last relaxer was Aug 2015. I struggle most with keeping my hair moisturizer while in it's straightened state and not reverting. When I get it professionally done it seems like it holds up well for a good week at least. When I wash and straighten it, it's dry in 12 hours.... tried a million products... don't know what I'm doing wrong☹️️☹️️😫
Oh man, I know how that can be! My hair gave me the blues when I began stretching my relaxers... It was NOT having it. What products do you currently use? I can see what other products may help... We can't figure it out together. 💕
I'm transitioning. Last perm was July 2015. I struggle with moisture retention. I find myself spraying water on my hair everyday just to keep it soft. I have low porisity hair and it's a struggle. Right now I have a protected style in (crochet braids) because I can't deal. Help! lol. Side note: what kind of flat iron do you use? i have an old croc iron from 7 years ago. Time for me to upgrade. lol
Hey girl, I know what you mean when dealing with moisture. I finally learned what products really worked for me and have increased my moisture levels. Aloe vera juice and cold water has truly become my lifeline. I use the BaByliss Pro Nano Titanium flat iron. I have a video on it if you want more of the deets.
Great video! I am transitioning and I'm having a problem with shedding/dryness. I hope to overcome this by the time I'm fully natural. I'm just beginning my journey so I need all guidance I can get, lol.
Hey gorgeous! Thanks so much for watching and entering into the contest! Congratulations on your transitioning journey. Don't worry, I experienced a lot of shedding and lack of moisture at the beginning. My hair was SHOWING OUT! Only because it wanted me to relax but I kept on pushing, it finally started acting right once I made my mind up that relaxing was no longer an option. I felt like my battle was more mental than anything. To address the physical issue, I would highly recommend that you use a moisture/water-based product on your hair frequently.
I'm natural. I transitioned for 11 months. My current hair problem is finding styles for my hair cause i have alot of shrinkage and your hair looks great :)
Hi Diedra, thanks SO much for watching and for entering into my giveaway! I know how difficult shrinkage can be when wanting to wear certain styles. If you are not fond of heat, have you tried banding your hair? Banding is a great method for stretching your styles. If you want more information on the banding method, I'll be sure to do a video/tutorial on it VERY soon. XOXO
Hey, my name is Tavia and I recently just did the BIG CHOP and literally cut my off all my relaxed ends leaving me with a mini fro. I'm new to this natural world, and I'm like a 4b/4c which is supper hard to manage but I'm willing to work throughout this journey to keep it natural and not relax it lol! My hair gets super dry and tangles really easy, but I don't really know what products I should use on my hair to keep it moisturized and define my curls.
Tae, thanks so much for watching and listing your problems. You're right, 4b/4c can be difficult to manage at times but I believe that with the right products, you are on your way! ❤️ Have you tried the LCO Method? What oils does your hair like the moist?
+DenayTheDiva yes I have! I have a concoction of wild hair growth oil, Jahoba (idk how to spell it lol) and coconut oil that I mix all together but by the end of the day it's still dry 😩
OK, try adding (cold - refrigerated) aloe vera juice AFTER you rinse out your shampoo with warm water. Once you add the aloe vera juice, add your conditioner, then add your concoction of wild hair growth oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil. The aloe vera juice will help with moisture and giving your hair a pH balance. I can't wait to hear from you and see how it works! XOXO
I'm natural, I big chopped last month after transitioning for 10 months. I'm still getting use to my hair but it's really dry even after deep conditioning
Thanks Marilyn for entering into the contest and for watching my video! Wishing you the best on your hair journey! Aloe vera juice has been my lifeline and I'm thinking it will be perfect for you. Spray it and/or rinse it in your hair; make sure it is cold. If you don't have aloe vera juice, try deep conditioning your hair. Once you're finished, rinse with cold water. You'll notice a difference in a matter of washes! 💕
I am transitioning and only been transitioning for 6 months... my issue is learning my hair type as in porosity level and what products work best for my hair! Thanks for the video!!!
Hi Christine! Thanks SO much for watching and for entering into the giveaway! Congratulations on your 6 months transition, keep it up!! I found two cool ways of determining your hair porosity level: Option 1 - The Float Test: Take a couple of strands of hair from your comb or brush and drop them into a bowl of water. Let them sit for 2-4 minutes. If your hair floats, you have low porosity. If it sinks, you have high porosity. Option 2 - The Slip'n'Slide Test: Take a strand of hair and slide your fingers up the shaft (toward the scalp). If you feel little bumps along the way, this means that your cuticle is lifted and that you have high porosity. If your fingers slip smoothly, then you have low porosity hair. I hope that helps!! If you give me more details about your hair, I may be able to assist with a product suggestion. XOXO 💕
Thank you! I used the method to determine my porosity of my hair and I found out I have low porosity hair! Do you know of some products that will work best for low porosity hair?
I'm so glad you found out your porosity level! I am low porosity as well! Anything with moisture and is water-based is great! For ex. ORS Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo, Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo, Cantu Shea Butter Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo, and even the EveryStrand Deep Moisture packet plus aloe vera juice that I use. 💕
I am transitioning from relaxed to natural but I do believe I have heat damage I've been transitioning for a while now but my hair after I wash it sheds a lot more than usual and feels crunchy even after deep conditioning
Hi Chamar, that's what it sounds like but don't get discouraged. I believe that heat damaged hair can be repairable if caught early. Try using the exact brand of shampoo, hydrolyzed Keratin helps repair heat damage... I really love Organix's Keratin Oil shampoo & conditioner because it helps with my steady use of thermal styling tools. It repairs my hair from all of my heated styling. Thanks for watching! ❤️
hey boo im one of your new subscribers even though I been watching your videos for a while now I been transitioning my hair for about 7-8 month I wear protective hairstyles mostly braids and weave my hair has grown a lot I been noticing that my hair is very dry at the roots in very oily at the end idk what products to put in my hair and I haven't did the big chop yet do you have any suggestions ?p.s I love you videos xoxo ❤❤❤❤
Queen K, thanks SO much for watching my vids and finally clicking that subscribe button. I truly appreciate you and hope that you stay around! I would suggest that you pour cold water + cold aloe vera juice on your roots which will help soften them up and give you SOOOO much moisture... Add some conditioner to your hair and then cover it up with a plastic cap. Keep that on for 20-30 minutes... Maybe even an hour if you'd like. It has REALLY helped me in my transitioning journey. I know it will help for you! ❤️ XOXO
Oh yeah, retaining moisture is very important! It was something I struggled with as well; before my aloe vera juice days! Definitely try it if you want, it works wonders!! Thanks for entering into the contest! 💕✨
hello. I love your hair it's so beautiful. I decided to go natural a couple of weeks ago & I'm only about 11 weeks post. I usually do my relaxers about 8-9 weeks. My question is do you think it would be best to just stretch my relaxers each time I relax to make it easier to become natural or just do it cold turkey?
Thanks SO much!! I appreciate you complimenting me, watching my video, AND entering into the contest! Congratulations on making it to 11 weeks post-relaxer! When I was relaxed, I just wanted to challenge my hair and see how long I could stretch them out... Then I realized, "Hey, why relax if I am practically going without one?" So I decided to go for it! I highly recommend for you to see if you are 100% ready before you do anything. If you aren't confident, start by stretching your relaxers... [every two months - to every four months - to every six months, etc.] One thing I will say, with stretching, you are starting the process of being relaxed over and over... So if you do not want to put off your natural journey (or want to be natural quicker), I recommend you transitioning. Overall, if you feel confident, go for it boo! It is all up to you and how YOU feel. I support you either way! XOXO
Thank you so much for responding to my question. I'm not 100% sure yet I'm like 80% sure lol. Relaxers can be very damaging so that's a huge part of the reason why I want to go natural I'm trying to do the right things to get my hair healthy. (Eating right, drinking water etc. ) I guess I'm afraid of how hard it would be to soften my new growth the more weeks I'm post relaxer. Right now not really having too much a hard time but I'm only 11 weeks in too. I will for right now take it week by week & see how it goes.
Well since you're 80% sure, I will tell you that I feel like you are confident enough to go for it! But yes, that's how I managed to go so long... Taking it week by week, and next thing I know, I'm here! You got it boo!! Aloe vera juice has softened my new growth up and makes the detangling process MUCH better for me. I truly think you'll be A-OK! Keep me posted on what you choose; I'm happy for you! XOXO
One more thing I want to ask & then I will keep you posted every now & then. Is Aloe Vera gel ok to use instead of Aloe Vera juice? I have the gel. If so do you think I should mix it with water?
Congratulations J! We transitioned around the same time; a month apart. How are you liking it so far? What's a style you'd like to achieve? I have lots of protective styles on my channel that could give you some ideas. Thanks for watching! 💕
Oh yeah, I can't wait to start doing wash and go's... Once I cut most of my relaxed hair I'll be very comfortable with doing them. And yes, cornrowing is a little tricky. I can braid but my braids aren't always the tightest LOL me and my weak hands... I'm working on it! * *sigh* * lol
New subbie your hair is really pretty and shiny.....I wish you had this channel back when I started transitioning...I had a really rough time but I think I got through it....I've been natural for two years now and I can't seem to get the very top front of my hair to thicken or even curl like the rest of my hair and I need help with that😊😊thanks for sharing all the great info 💕💕👍🏾👍🏾
When did you start transitioning? I had started this channel in 2010 but unfortunately, I was a relaxed girl at the time. Waaaaaaah! LOL Congrats on your hair journey and I know you'll overcome your thickness-curl issue. I definitely have some product ideas in-mind that may help solve your issue. Thanks for watching! XOXO
Hi , I've been transitioning for 1 year and 3 months now. Its actually my second time transitioning.i've transitioned for nearly two years already but ended up relaxing my hair again because of dealing with two textures. Now im gonna try my best on my hair journey.Dry hair and the line of demarcation are my problems right now
Hi Raicha, thanks SO much for watching and for entering into the contest! Dealing with two textures can be difficult but now that you know what to expect, I think this next go 'round will be a lot smoother! How do you like to style your hair? Keeping your hair moisturized and free from tangles really helps me with managing demarcation. Aloe vera juice has been my staple. Here is my process: 1. Shampoo hair. 2. Rinse out shampoo with WARM water. 3. Pour cold-refrigerated aloe vera juice on my hair. 4. Add conditioner/deep conditioner concoction (do not use a leave-in on this one). 5. Put a cap on hair for 20-30 minutes; or even an hour. 6. Rinse out hair with COLD water. 7. Add leave-in conditioner (if any). 8. Add oil to seal in the moisture. 9. And then style according to my liking (flat twist, flexi-rods are PERFECT for locking in that moisture). I hope that helps!! XOXO
I'm natural. I combed out my locs about a year and 4 months ago, after 7 years with them. My biggest problems with my hair have been keeping it moisturized and reducing shedding, causing me to have a hard time retaining length. I've tried the LOC and LCO methods but my hair is still dry half way through the day. I may try a protein treatment next
Hi Nikki! Congratulations on combing out your locs after 7 years! I'm sure that was a HUGE change! I have been EXACTLY where you are; trying to keep your hair moisturized and reduce the shedding. No worries. What products do you currently use for your LOC? How does your hair feel afterwards? Dry/gritty/brittle? What kind of shampoo/conditioner do you use? This will help me determine what I think will work best for you. What has REALLY helped me was aloe vera juice. It has helped my hair in SO many ways: keeps it moisturized, it feels very soft, and I feel like it has been adding to my rapid hair growth. I use it once every two weeks; during my deep conditioning treatment. I make sure that after I wash my hair with shampoo, I rinse the shampoo out with WARM water. Then I pour cold aloe vera juice all over my hair and scalp (you can also use a spray bottle). I like to drench my hair in it. Once my hair is drenched in it, I add my conditioner + a hair masque and then place a cap on my hair for 30 minutes to an hour. Once finished, I rinse my hair with COLD water; this locks in the moisture. From there, it is easy to detangle and style my hair. Definitely give it a try and see if your hair likes it. Using aloe vera juice, you'll definitely see a change in a matter of washes! XOXO 💕
I will definitely try the aloe vera juice! I use Cantu kids shampoo and conditioner once a week because they are the only ones that don't leave my hair feeling brittle. I also use Shea Moisture's JBCO hair masque once a week as a deep conditioner, and olive oil cholesterol as a daily moisturizer in the shower. For my LOC method I use a water based leave in, tea tree and/or coconut oil and most of the time I'll use Curls Creme Brulee. I may be using too many different products, I don't really know, but I know none of them seem to be working. I will try the aloe vera juice though, thanks.
I am natural and have been for 5 years in march. my problen has always been ratty and dry ends. No matter how much I tuck, protect and moisturizethem: my ends stay ratty. That is why I cut me hair often.
Great video and tips sis and your hair looks so healthy and beautiful. I'm currently i think 7 months post not sure lost count lol but still haven't made the decision yet what I plan to do. Lol but your doing great keep it up 😊
Thanks SO much Jazzy!! I still have some relaxed hair to cut off but I'm loving the journey thus far. I'm sure you can as well. Feel free to hit me up anytime if you have any questions; we can always bounce ideas off of one another. ❤️
Thanks so much for watching and entering into the contest Onyinye. Do you detangle your hair while wet? If so, do you use cold water? Cold water and (refrigerated) aloe vera juice makes my detangling process much easier than it used to be. I hope it helps for you! Let me know! 😉❤️
DenayTheDiva Yes, I detangle when my hair is wet. But it dries up easily and knots up. 4C hair texture isn't easy to manage. I'll try the aloe vera juice and see how it works. Thanks for the info.
I'm actually a year and two months post relaxer butttttt i'm seriously itching for a relaxer, so much so that I've booked the appt for later this week lol. I wanted to really try getting to know my natural hair/texture but I've been struggling to find the motivation to set time aside to actually deal with my hair. I washed it once on my own (i mostly have it buried under a wig/weave/braids or have someone else do it lol) and i really didn't have the patience. Hopefully one day i'll have /find the time and desire to go and stay natural but right now, relaxed hair is just easier for me to comb and throw into a bun! My current hair problem is simply that i haven't been taking care of it b/c the two textures are terrifying so i literally don't touch it lol. It is probably sooo dry and broken! I can't wait to hit the salon to fix this mess lol
Hi Sabrina, I know what you mean. Definitely choose what fits you and your lifestyle. It sounds like being relaxed is right up your alley! You got it boo!! ❤️
I am in the process of transitioning right now and been wearing weave as a protective style for the last 2 years. I recently just started taking manetabolism vitamins and I have seen great growth. I will be taking my sew in out this weekend and doing my big chop. My biggest hair concern is how I am going to style my hair once I big chop as well as coming up with a hair refining once I cut the rest of my relaxer off.
Jasmine, thanks SO much for watching and for entering into the contest! Manetabolism is BOMB! I need to try their shampoos, conditioners, leave-ins... The way my budget is set up, I've put those expenses on hold. I tried the Manetabolism vitamins and definitely saw a faster growth rate for my hair. I have some protective styles on my channel if you want more ideas. I will be sure to make more vids that will cater to your request as well! Thanks again and BIG UPS to you on your transition! Sounds like you are doing GREAT!!
Thank you so much for replying and yes I am the same way would love to try other products from there hair line such as shampoo and conditioner but being in college money goes fast so once I get a little more money I may try some of them out. I just came across your channel tonight and will definitely watch your other videos and different protective styles because weave gets old at times.
Thanks so much Jasmine! And I feel you, I stick with the same products. I am not trying to recreate the wheel if I don't have to. I finally found what works for me and I'll keep doing this until my hair tells me to do otherwise. I want to make this journey as SIMPLE as possible LOL... Some people make the process sound SO complicated but I beg to differ. Me and my three to four products will be okay! LOL
I have natural hair. My hair problem is that my hair just doesn't grow. I have been natural for almost 4 years and in those 4 years, the length of my hair has stayed EXACTLY the same. I trim, protective style and wash every 2 weeks maybe there is something else I'm missing. Thanks for this giveaway!
I agree with Shalea. If you protect your ends and don't have bad ends, you should definitely slow down your hair trimming. Everyone's hair grows (unless of a medical condition); but yes, some people's hair grows at faster rates than others but in essence everyone's hair grows. So if you notice that your hair is being stagnant in length, it is time to look at your ends. A halt in hair growth usually has something to do with your ends. Seeing that you are trimming so much, I truly believe that is why your growth isn't visible. Stop cutting for awhile and you'd be surprised. Thanks for entering into the giveaway!
Hey girl hey!! 😄 I'm here again 😆 you have really beautiful hair fr. I'm currently 3months and 1day post relaxer. My first time going natural my entire life! And I see them curls popping already; and they give me the push I need to go on (I'm definitely doing something right). This might be a lon essay so I apologize already 😊 My greatest challenge right now is how hard it has bn to keep my hair moisturized. I have noticed I have really porous hair that zaps in moisture immediately. So my hair is always like always full of frizz 😥. Like I already said I have NEVER bn natural all my life so this is really challenging right now. And because my hair & scalp be always dry it constantly itches and my protective styles (box braids and twists) never last. If I get to be the lucky girl for this giveaway and get products to help reduce the frizz an retain moisture I'll be so glad. Thanks for reading this essay too 😄😄
Hi Lisa, I would highly recommend for you to use a product with glycerin. Glycerin is heavy in humectants, which are made to pull moisture into the hair and retain it. Vegetable glycerin is a great one to use; you can buy it from the grocery store. After putting it on your hair, seal it with a natural oil and that moisture will begin to lock into your strands; making it stronger and softened. You can also do the same with aloe vera juice! Thanks so much for entering into the contest!! XOXO
Hi Tootsie! Thanks so much for watching and entering into the contest! I lovvvvved my relaxed hair when I was relaxed! Definitely transition IF you are ready and whenever you are ready! It is also great that you know your natural hair texture and was already natural for over 4 years! I'm glad to see that you know the freedom in doing what you want with your hair! I commend you for being true to yourself! XOXO 💕
heyy My hair is natural, i struggle with growth and i have used hair products, oils, shea butter but i have not seen a constant change. however the oils have helped it to be more soft and less dry
Jessica, thanks SO much for watching my vid and for entering into the giveaway! I know what you mean about moisture; it's good that you are learning more about your hair! Knowing what works and what doesn't work is key for a successful journey. Kudos to you! XOXO
Heyyyy I'm in love with your hair! But I am transitioning currently. A major problem that I tend have with my hair is after having in a protective style for about a month, when I wash my hair it comes out extremely dry and nothing seems to remedy it. I hope I win and thanks anyway even if I don't
Cece Armah thanks SO much for your compliments! When you wear your hair in protective styles, do you find ways to keep your hair moisturized? If so, what products do you use? Thanks so much for watching and for also entering into the contest!! XOXO
i am currently transitioning. my problem with my hair is that I don't like doing stuff with my hair. the daily up keep and such. when I was relaxed I just wrapped my hair went to sleep. woke up unwrapped parted it and went my way. now I feel like i have to devoted so much time to it
I agree, transitioning to natural is such a life changer. I have learned to enjoy the process and have also learned how to minimize the amount of time that i spend doing my hair. It used to be an all day process and now I got it down to 1-2 hours. But you're right, it is definitely more time consuming than when I was relaxed. ❤️
I've just decided to start transitioning because I've always been relaxed and I'm curious to see what my curl pattern actually looks like. And my hair problem is that I have a disgusting amount of shedding ☹️️
Hey girl, thanks so much for watching and entering into the giveaway! Congratulations on your transitioning journey!! And yes, shedding is something that you can overcome with the right products; I'd be glad to help if you consider my suggestions. Is your shedding mainly from the root? Or is it breakage from your relaxed hair? ❤️
Ohhhh gotcha! Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) is perfect for thickening your hair and even your edges. It definitely helped me grow out my nape area.. Which used to be brittle but has now grown to the middle of my back. If you get a chance, start rubbing JBCO on your hair... It is VERY thick so you have to rub it in the palm of your hands first in order to warm the product up and apply it to your strands. I use the brand made by 'Tropic Isle Living'.... Here's a link: ebay.to/2dX17z2 You can also find it at your local beauty supply store and/or Walmart.
I've been transitioning since July 2014 with no direct heat. I'm planning to cut the remaining last relaxed ends at the end of this year. I struggle mostly with dryness. Lately I realize that there was to much protein in my products.
Congratulations on using no direct heat! Amazing! I know you're SO excited about the end of the year; being completely natural will feel SO liberating! I'm so happy for you! It's good that you are aware of what is going on in your hair journey; that you can catch it early on to prevent setbacks! KUDOS!! ❤️ Thanks for watching!!
I am natural! my hair problem right now is that my hair eats all of my moisturizers so two hours after I do my hair it's dry! so it's hard to keep it healthy so it can grow
Oh man! It looks like you may need to add water with your moisturizer because your hair is thirsty. Have you ever tried the LCO method? If not, I'll give you more details about it; it really helps. Thanks so much for watching and entering into the giveaway/contest.
The LCO Method consists of Liquid, Cream, and Oil. After shampooing your hair and rinsing it clean, you must apply these products to your hair in that exact order. (LIQUID): Try using a cold liquid such as cold water + refrigerated aloe vera juice. Cold liquid opens your cuticle which makes it easy to add moisture to your follicles and to your scalp. (CREAM): Try using a deep conditioner/moisturizing packet for this step... You can also make a DIY conditioner if you have one in-mind. While your cuticle is open, it is best to add that moisture in by treating your hair; giving it a deep condition. (OIL): Oil seals the moisture into your hair. So when you add oil, it is the FINAL step in the process. It is best to use NATURAL oils... Anything like extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, argan oil, grape seed oil, tea tree oil, peppermint oil,... and much more are ALL great... Just test out a few (once at a time) and see which oil your hair reacts to the best. REMEMBER... Do the LCO Method in-order. For ex. If you use the oil before the cream (LOC), the cream won't take because the oil sealed the cuticle... so now the cream is just sitting "on top" of your strand instead of penetrating inside the follicle. Here's what I use for my LCO: ✨ Liquid = water and aloe vera juice ✨ Cream = any type of deep conditioner... you can make a DIY or you can use what I use (I like convenience and don't always have time to make up concoctions and potions) lol ✨ Oil = this depends on what oils your hair likes but my hair is a fan of Argan oil... Here are some of the benefits of some of the oils I listed... Definitely check them out: • Tea Tree Oil (helps with itchy scalp, dandruff, and such), • Extra Virgin Olive Oil (I like this one bc it's easiest to find; makes hair shiny and moisturized), • Peppermint Oil (helps with dry scalp; absorbs quickly so your hair won't feel heavy, it tingles... stimulates your scalp which promotes hair growth)... it also smells minty which is yummy to me lol • Avocado Oil (moisturizing dry, brittle, and damaged hair, had protein which makes your hair stronger). • Coconut Oil (a protein-based Oil that makes your hair stronger and thicker,... don't use TOO much though; protein overload). There are so many more... these are the most popular.
Hey Divas!!
I am in the process of transitioning to natural hair. It has been 1 year and 6 months since my last relaxer. I wanted to do an Q&A video to help answer most of my frequently asked questions…
There's also a giveaway! Details are at the end of the video!
HAIR LOOKS GREAT! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUR PROGRESSION! I DID A BIG CHOP TWICE AND I'VE BEEN NATURAL FOR 5 YEARS NOW. THIS JOURNEY WILL BE AMAZING.
Yayyyy to the big chop! You rock it so well and congratulations on your 5-year journey. You're killing it boo! ❤️
Your hair looks so thick and healthier!!! Congratulations on your transition to natural
Thanks so much!! ❤️
+DenayTheDiva Thank you for that tip! I will definitely be on the look out for that aloe vera juice 😊
Niiiiice!! I'll have to try it from the plant!! Thanks SO much for commenting and congratulations on your journey!! XOXO
Absolutely! I love your videos! Thanks for the response! I think I might have to get that babyliss flat iron too!!
Been natural for 3 years now & I love it✨
Congrats on your hair journey and thanks SO much for watching!!
Love it Missy! For me moisture is my biggest issue. I have a few different textures.
Thanks for watching and entering into the giveaway Chenese! ❤️
I am in the transition stage. How do I keep my ends from being dry?
Thanks for watching and entering into the giveaway! Do you seal your ends with oil? ❤️
Your hair looks so healthy 😍 I've been natural for about two years but the first year I struggled with length retention and dryness.
Congrats on making it two years and I wish you many more!! Thanks for entering!! ❤️💕
DenayTheDiva thank you 😊. it's been a long but rewarding journey so far.
I haven't used the shea moisture collection, so if anyone has feel free to tell me how ur experience with it was
Thanks for watching Ayesha and for also entering into the contest! Have you tried stretching your hair using the banding method? That helps stretch your hair without heat and can make your curls pop without shrinkage. Also, have you tried twisting/flat twisting your hair to make your curls more defined? Maybe that will help as well.
Did you darken your hair? I love the color. What color did you use?
Thanks so much for watching! No, I didn't darken my hair it is just the contrast of my lighting and film set up. ❤️
Thank you so much! Wishing you much luck on yours!! :)
Love your video and your hair!. Currently 2 years plus natural and I battle with dry hair and dandruff
XOXO ❤️
DenayTheDiva Thank you! 😊
XOXO 💕
Hey Sis, Great video! I'm natural, I've been natural for almost 4years and I love it!!! Congrats on your transition. Thanks for the Giveaway!!! 💥😊✌💯
Congratulations on your hair journey and thank you SO MUCH for watching! XOXO
Perfect! Thanks for letting me know! I'll be sure to keep that in mind when looking for products if you win! 💕 Thanks again for your time!
DenayTheDiva Awww, thx..
I have been natural for 7 years now. I recently died my hair and I'm struggling to keep it moisturized throughout the week. Thanks for helping!😄
Your welcome
I am transitioning and I have been transitioning for a year now. My biggest hair problem is moisture. I feel like whenever I style my it feels dry, no matter how much I deep condition. Thank you so much for this video! It gave me so many tips to help with my journey to natural hair.
Uhunoma thanks SO much for watching my video and for entering into the contest! Hopefully my tips work for you. Feel free to tweak any of the products if you see that something else works better! XOXO ❤️
I am
Currently 9 months post relaxer. The most challenging part of my journey is keeping my hair moisturized.
Thanks for watching Imani! I agree, moisture is EVERYTHING to me! Thanks for entering into the contest!
love your hair dear
Thanks so much Chandni!!
DenayTheDiva yes I use sulfate free. I use carols daughters black vanilla
I'm currently 9 months post relaxer, and im really loving it! my hair problem is finding a a hair mask or moisturizer tht works for me!
Thanks for watching & entering into the contest! I have a perfect deep conditioning masque in-mind! 😍💕❤️
I love the video I'm currently struggling to transition to natural hair. your information was very helpful.
Thank you, I will definitely be giving the LCO method a try!
XOXO
Wow! Your hair is beautiful 😍 I'm 5 months post relaxer I'm transitioning but goodness it's hard, I can't deal with the 2 textures
Thanks so much for watching Wattisa and thanks for the compliments! Yes, dealing with two different textures is a HUGE problem while transitioning. What products do you like to use? Thanks for entering into the giveaway!
Cantu shea butter products really do it for me
I love your hair! A lot of great info too, TFS!
Thanks Nikki! 💕❤️
Hey Diva!! I am natural but am trying to grow out some heat damage I got back in June and wanting to grow my hair out longer. Love your video!!!
Thanks for the tip!
DenayTheDiva Thanks so much I'm definitely going to try that!!
XOXO ❤️
DenayTheDiva Thank you and I will keep you posted
See im learning already. Good job. Im excited.
Yayyyy!!
XOXO
@Denaythediva what products bdid you use during your transition
Paula Deidre Organix Keratin Oil Shampoo & Conditioner + Aloe vera juice, olive oil oil sheen, that's about it ❤
Hi :)! I just discover your channel with one of your video (the transition hair update
Follow these steps:
1. Wash your hair with shampoo.
2. Rinse your hair with WARM water.
3. Pour (cold-refrigerated) aloe vera juice on your hair. (Drench your hair and your scalp in it)
4. Add conditioner to your strands.
5. Place a shower cap on your head and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour.
6. Rinse your hair with COLD water.
7. Detangle
8. Add oil and style your hair
You should definitely see a change in your hair after a matter of washes!
DenayTheDiva Awesome to know!!! That gives me hope!😂😂😂
I love my hair straight! Thx for the response.
I'm transitioning, 9 months post relaxer. Problem: new growth is dry. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching & entering into the contest!
XOXO
your hair is beautiful sis!
Thanks sis! Love you! 💕
+DenayTheDiva Thanks I will give it a try.
I am about 10 months transitioning and I plan to big chop next year for my graduation.
Congratulations on your transitioning journey and your upcoming graduation! ❤️
I'm natural and my issue is keeping my hair straight!. Straight hair is easier for me. I will try that aloe Vera juice and blow dryer method you said.
No but I am going to try that now
You're gorgeous and pretty hair!!! 💜😊
Thanks SO much Chloe!! ❤️
I am relaxed but the perm doesn't take to my hair for too long when I go natural my hair is coils but can also get nappy and hard to maintain
Thanks for entering into the contest Bria!! You must have some gorgeous thick hair! I'd love to see more pix so I can help refer you to some great products. What's your IG? Let's connect! ❤️💕
How often do you flat iron your hair
Paula Deidre thanks so much for watching!! I flat iron once every two weeks. ✨
XOXO 💕
Thanks so much for the tip. I'm going to try this.
DenayTheDiva THANK YOU SO MUCH LOVE! I can't wait to try your tips and tricks thanks💓

If you try it, let me know how that works for you!
Thanks sooo much for the tips! I'll definitely try the Aloe Vera juice. :-)
XOXO
Your welcome and I haven't tried that method but I'll love to see a video of that!
Definitely! I should have a video up on it this week! * *fingers crossed* *
XOXO
+DenayTheDiva okay thanks!
I found two cool ways of determining your hair porosity level:
Option 1 - The Float Test: Take a couple of strands of hair from your comb or brush and drop them into a bowl of water.
❤️ XOXO
I have been natural for 1 year and 7 months. My current hair problem is keeping my hair moisturized.
Also BTW thanks for being so nice to me. You seem like a sweetheart. :)
Your hair is gorgeous #goals I'm also trying to get back my long healthy hair
Thanks soooo much Bria!! We can go on this length journey together! You got this! ❤️💕🌸
I am transitioning and have been doing so for about a year and 5 months. My biggest problem is styling. I'm still learning everyday.
Congratulations J! We transitioned around the same time; a month apart. How are you liking it so far? What's a style you'd like to achieve? I have lots of protective styles on my channel that could give you some ideas. Thanks for watching! 💕
DenayTheDiva I'd like to be able to do a successful wash and go. I'm also trying to learn how to cornrow.
Here is my process:
XOXO
+DenayTheDiva thank u so much for the advice:)
Lol but your doing great keep it up 😊
Thanks so much sis! You hair is SO beautiful! Whichever choice you choose, you cannot go wrong! XOXO
DenayTheDiva aww thank you sweetie
I can't believe it's natural it's so beautiful and strong I hope I can do this
Thanks SO much Jazzy!! I still have some relaxed hair to cut off but I'm loving the journey thus far. I'm sure you can as well. Feel free to hit me up anytime if you have any questions; we can always bounce ideas off of one another. ❤️
DenayTheDiva awwh you're so kind thank you so much and I sure will.😊
I am one year natural. I transitioned and did the big chop last year. My greatest challenge is just tangling. My hair is 4C and tangles a lot.
*manetabolism
Thanks for this giveaway!
maybe its the trimming every two weeks. try not to trim your hair so much because your trimming down your length.
This might be a lon essay so I apologize already 😊
My greatest challenge right now is how hard it has bn to keep my hair moisturized.

And there's here too 😄
Hi Lisa, I would highly recommend for you to use a product with glycerin. XOXO
I'll definitely do that. Thanks
I'm relaxed, but I'm thinking about transitioning back to natural. I was natural for over 4 years.
XOXO 💕
I'm transitioning to natural hair. How to keep my hair from breaking off ?
Thanks for watching and for entering into the contest! 💕
heyy
My hair is natural, i struggle with growth and i have used hair products, oils, shea butter but i have not seen a constant change. however the oils have helped it to be more soft and less dry
Jessica, thanks SO much for watching my vid and for entering into the giveaway! I know what you mean about moisture; it's good that you are learning more about your hair! Knowing what works and what doesn't work is key for a successful journey. Kudos to you! XOXO
thank you x
great video it really helped me.
Thanks for watching Mary! I'm SO glad it helped! XOXO 💕
XOXO
I think I do 😭 I rub oil on my scalp every once in the while but it does not seem to work 😭
i am currently transitioning. my problem with my hair is that I don't like doing stuff with my hair. the daily up keep and such. when I was relaxed I just wrapped my hair went to sleep. woke up unwrapped parted it and went my way. now I feel like i have to devoted so much time to it
I agree, transitioning to natural is such a life changer. I have learned to enjoy the process and have also learned how to minimize the amount of time that i spend doing my hair. It used to be an all day process and now I got it down to 1-2 hours. But you're right, it is definitely more time consuming than when I was relaxed. ❤️
Love this video I'm a new sub
Keisha! Thanks so much for stopping by and subscribing! & appreciate you! ❤️
Fabulous hair!
Thanks SO much gorgeous!!
DenayTheDiva from the root. I have very fine hair and I keep trying to thicken it but it just keeps coming out
Ohhhh gotcha!

Thank you for making great content !
DenayTheDiva please give me details! My hair has been like this since birth lol
Here's what I use for my LCO:
✨ Liquid = water and aloe vera juice
✨ Cream = any type of deep conditioner... you can make a DIY or you can use what I use (I like convenience and don't always have time to make up concoctions and potions) lol
✨ Oil = this depends on what oils your hair likes but my hair is a fan of Argan oil...
Here are some of the benefits of some of the oils I listed... Definitely check them out:
• Tea Tree Oil (helps with itchy scalp, dandruff, and such),
• Extra Virgin Olive Oil (I like this one bc it's easiest to find; makes hair shiny and moisturized),
• Peppermint Oil (helps with dry scalp; absorbs quickly so your hair won't feel heavy, it tingles... stimulates your scalp which promotes hair growth)... it also smells minty which is yummy to me lol
• Avocado Oil (moisturizing dry, brittle, and damaged hair, had protein which makes your hair stronger).
• Coconut Oil (a protein-based Oil that makes your hair stronger and thicker,... don't use TOO much though; protein overload).
There are so many more... these are the most popular.
Thank you! i will give this a try!
