Hi Dawn! Do you use Telegram? Received a message saying it was from you but I’m hesitant because I’ve never heard of that platform before. Is this a scam by chance? Thanks in advance!!
Can I just say, I LOVE how Tom is learning about CBT AND talking about it on TH-cam. We need more examples of tough outdoorsy guys who are also good husbands and fathers and actively care about mental health.
Again I appreciate that you and your family share what I at least consider normal everyday life stuff. This channel proves that you don't have to be crazy rich or super trendy to be valuable. We don't find it boring- we find it validating. ❤️
I think I once heard Dr. Dobson say that 80% of life is made up of “mundane” things. It was good for me to hear that when I was a mom of young children. It somehow made me feel more content. As I get older, I appreciate mundane more and more.
I enjoyed sharing your day. It was not boring. It makes me happy to see a man and a woman building a home, a family and a dream together. You offer such inspiration to all of us. Thank you for your generosity.
We had it so good (14 years ago) when our children were 11, 14, and 16. Life was so easy. Then we decided to adopt a 9 month old baby. Then when that baby was almost 7, and things were easy again, we started fostering and later adopted a 4 1/2 year old little fireball! THEN, in December of 2020, we brought a newborn foster baby home from the hospital (my husband and I were 53 years old). She stayed for 3 precious months. Much of this was not in our plan (our plan was 3 children) but we wouldn’t change it for anything!!!! 💗
I love that your kids have chores they are responsible for. I think this instills a sense of accomplishment and pride. And makes for stronger, more responsible adults.
Oh Dawn...I almost got a tear when you said that was your grandpa's truck and your dad's, and now Tom's. Ah... how special. What a wonderful life you and Tom have built. You deserve every good thing you have built. Not everyone gets the dream. And sometimes those who do don't even realize it. I think you do. And thanks as always for sharing. 🌼😉
What a great idea hiring a high schooler to work on homework with the kids! Keeps the learning going all year long, allows you to work uninterrupted or to have time to relax, and the older child does not feel she has a " babysitter" bit there is a responsible, older person around in case of emergency.
I LOVE White Collar! I might have to go watch it again now! This may not be the most interesting part of my day, but one of my favorite little moments is feeding my cat. Folks say cats aren't trainable, but I have trained her to sit, stop meowing and look at me before I put her food down. It just makes me happy. I'm all about the simple joys. Thanks for sharing your day with us. xo
You guys are amazing. I have been following for a while and you have helped me so much, thank you. I live in Dublin, Ireland and our lives are so different but I still love watching everything you guys do. Thank you so much and I hope to keep following for a long time to come. Take care and God Bless. (please note I am not a particularly religious but you guys make me want to believe!)
I enjoy watching your “Day in the life” videos. They are full of real life stuff but you also share what you’ve learned through your journey to become minimal.
You are so blessed to have the surroundings of a godly family and a good husband and I’m so grateful how you share your blessings with us to see and hear how you live your personal life. It’s so nice to see an example of a Christian life being humble and prosperous at the same time!
I live in a senior apartment. We have about 56 apartments. We get together for movie night. We have a dinner once a month. If you are bored or lonely we have places where we can meet. People walk by and stop and talk. We have exercise three times a week. So it’s awesome here:
I’ve been watching you for a few months now. First and really the only TH-camr I truly follow. When my husband hears you talking now he says “is that your friend from Minnesota that you’ve never met?” And I just reply, “Yep, it sure is!” Thanks for being my friend. If you are ever in Maryland, I think we should hang out. You have already helped me more than you will ever know!
Hahah. You do have it so good right now! For those of us with “large” families who are still in the baby/littles phase it is such an encouragement. Our time is coming.
I can highly recommend the Squirrel Buster bird feeder. Completely erased our squirrel problem! It’s got a weighted cage which lowers over the seeds if something that’s too heavy grabs it. It’s expensive but we were replacing our bird feeders every few months anyway because the squirrel would bite through the cage so in the end probably cheaper to have bought it first!
The most interesting part of my day is watching you 2. 😆 It's nice to see that ya'll are just normal people, your kids fight & you work hard like the rest of us. Excited for your new adventures you're both working on. Keep the videos coming.
I love that you and Tom begin and end your day together ❤ I love learning how to make my families life less hectic by removing the things we really don’t need thank you so much
Cut the chicken in half with kitchen scissors and keep your smaller insta pot. Problem solved ☺️ I cut ours in half to cook half a chicken in the air fryer and it's SO good!
Bird feeders are awesome. When I moved to Iowa when I got married at 25 yrs. old I was blown away at the variety of birds that we can enjoy in the midwest. I now (28 years later) listen sometimes to a podcast to learn more of their habits. Nature is a wonderful leader into worshiping our creator.
Get black oil sunflower seed for your feeder, we switched to it many years ago. Every time our local hardware store puts it on sale, we stock up. All the birds love it! The garden looks great!
Beautiful evening walk. I do my 2.5 mile walk every morning at 6am. I love the peace and quiet of the new day. Also before it gets so hot. We live in Houston Texas and this time of year is miserable. In the upper 90s and the humidity of about 94%, it makes it so hard to breathe. But...in the winter is great. Christmas we are usually in shorts and sandals. We all have to find the good in each day.
I love that you start your morning with The Bible Recap and coffee! So do I! I have been following you for a couple weeks now. I love your emphasis on your family! I love that your main goal is protecting your family lifestyle and the peace it’s brought for your whole family! I would safely say you all are living the dream life! God bless and I have just subscribed to your channel! I love all the content!
Love to see the simplicity of your day and the joy and peace that comes from it. I’m an older Mom in the suburbs, still working and I love schedules and simple routines too. You’d be surprised how often I walk our dog and treat him like our second son, ha.
On my channel when I do a day in the lives people find the things that I think boring very interesting. When I am coordinating with the kids or when we’re changing the pace to accommodate, again, the children or a situation. The viewers just drip over the fact that moms do a great job at this and that it may seem crazy but it was a peaceful visit in the day in life video! I liked your video Dawn And Tom I think that it was very nice to have an insight into your day. I do like seeing how simplifying you’re home can make it easier to maintain and you can spend more time with the kids and more time with your hobbies and Job. Thanks for sharing !
You two are so cute! So in love and each able to be yourself while encouraging the other! Your kids are absolutely precious!! What a God-honoring, God-pleasing family!! Blessings!!
I’m so with you on enjoying this stage of parenting. I feel like moms in the thick of parenting littles need to know that these days are ahead and it’s not all losses as the kids get bigger. You guys are the best. I can’t wait for the devotional! I already know which friend I’m going to do it with.
Thank you for saying this! I am one of those parents in the thick of parenting littles and find myself asking does this get easier? I know I am doing kingdom work however it is still a tough season right now with 3 under 4. Thank you for the encouragement ❤️
@@mollyrecchia6445 I’m so glad you were encouraged! Hang in there. Consider the work you’re doing now as an investment in the big kid relationships you’ll have with them in the future. Your stage is hard. Period. And it’s ok that it feels hard some days. Tomorrow is a new day with new mercy. And someday maybe you’ll just hang out with your kid at a coffee shop and talk, and it’s so sweet and worth the wait. Praying for you!
Keep both! Interesting is that my house is so organized that I can go thru my morning and evening routine half asleep, it’s so so much quicker than 3 years ago when my house was full of stuff. I recently painted most of my house in white and decluttered even more decor. I love it so much. I have fewer but nice bigger pieces of decor. Dawn, you are inspired me all those years ago. I love it!
Didn't find this video boring at all! And didn't know Diana is pregnant and having her baby around the same time as me! 🥰 There is nothing exciting happening in my life except growing this baby and trying to declutter our home on the days when it's not too hot and I am not exhausted.
You're videos are never boring! I think you could literally film paint drying and as long as you were chatting with us it would still be great! My days are never the same, and they are always packed with a mix of work and family time. I work with toddlers in early intervention (I'm a speech language pathologist), so by nature my job is very unpredictable. I drive to their homes in 3 counties and I coach families on how to help their children communicate. Many have diagnoses that put them at risk for communication delays, such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, etc. I am also a feeding specialist, so I work with children struggling to eat, nurse or swallow. The best part of my day is when I child screams "Mommy Ms. Gail is here!" with giggles and hugs. I enjoy the scenery as I drive and my job is usually pretty fun. I do have moments
Dawn, I really appreciate how you keep the exposure to your kids limited. Having said that, this is NOT a 'day in the life' of any mom. Someone was supervising the kids making breakfast, kids were squabbling, and someone was making them get dressed. That is a real 'day in the life'. This feels performative.
I would definitely try putting out suet for the birds. It is easy and will attract many different kinds of birds. That is a nice place to watch them every morning.🥰
I love White Collar! My favorite thing about it is the positive marriage role model of Peter & Elizabeth Burke. 💕 They have a solid, supportive, trusting marriage that is such a healthy example. I love them! 🥰
I don't know if it's just voyeurism, but I so enjoy seeing "day in the life" style videos! It's so great that you're raising your kids to be part of the household community, instead of just those small people that eat all the food and make messes LOL.
I wanted to pass along some minimalist ideas-. I have been using a smaller bath towel and hanging it it my closet to dry! This is useful camping-it takes up so much less space and dries quicker! We have a bath towel for each person and they are responsible to wash their own clothes, including bath towel. Also I have pared down my jewelry and store them in pill organizers, only two organizers (container concept). Maybe this will be helpful to someone 🙂
Many birds, like doves, prefer to ground feed. So the squirrels are helping to distribute the seeds! I like the squirrels, even when they are getting fat on seeds. Everything needs to eat. ❤️☺️
Yep, I was going to comment that plenty of birds prefer to ground feed. So, the picky birds (I sit a couple feet away from them outside and shake my head) are actually doing the other birds a favor. We feed our squirrels, too. They aren't too bad, and our dog loves to go out and chase them away a few times a day, so it keeps them on their toes. Around here the birds are going insane for the suet! This is the first year we've had this run on suet. Woodpeckers are especially happy when we fill the suet holders.
100 percent not boring!! I loved every minute of the episode! I'm a professional organizer who lives in SE Alaska on an inlet to the ocean in the summer where we see whales cruise by daily. I don't think my days are boring at all AND I don't think watching your day is boring either. Our days are different and I can find gems in both. I love your channel and all of your content so much!
The most exciting part of my day today was when I took the dogs to a nearby vacant lot and we did some training and played chuck it. Your days don’t have to be exciting to be interesting. Thank you for sharing your day. ❤
Keep BOTH instant pots. Leave your 8 qt downstairs and use it when necessary. I found that I use my 6 qt the most and it is faster than the 8 qt to get up to pressure.. but the 8 qt is great for making soups or larger chickens as you have stated. I definitely would consider keeping both. I used your quarantine bin method with my 6 qt and found that I kept wanting to use it. Just my two cents. ☺️
I have both, also, and find that I really do use them both for different kinds of meals. I agree that the 6qt comes to pressure much faster. Having the 8qt in the basement would be a great option.
I have the 6 quart. My mom has the 8 quart. Mom uses hers more than I use mine because she can do more with it...like a whole chicken. I've wished for the 8 quart a few times. Keep them both!
I wonder why you couldn't cut up some of the chicken say take off wings put them in the chicken cavity and the leg and thigh and place on the top or bottom of the breast/back so it would fit in your six quart. I have cut a ham or turkey breast to fit in my six quart when it is too big to fit otherwise. As it will soon be just me and hubby an eight quart will never get used. I prefer to cook soups on the stove as I add items based on the time needed to cook them as apposed to all at once.
Loved your day. You’d see me working as a family practice office nurse then coming home to make soap or be in the garden. Possibly canning, fermenting something, or baking bread. All kids are grown.
There hasn’t been a show of yours that I’ve watched that I haven’t loved and I’ve been watching you for three years. You are interesting and informative! Keep up your sweet laugh, beautiful smile, and your good ideas coming…!
Just wanted to take a quick moment to say I enjoy watching your videos. You and your hubby are both so likeable! I can imagine myself hanging out with you over coffee/tea. Thanks for all the tips! I live in a small home so minimalism is key!
Dawn, I know a crock pot or dutch oven aren't as "quick and easy" as the instant pot but these could be a better option for the larger meals you need to cook, while still keeping the convenient smaller instapot for the rest of your meals.
I went to summer camp 🏕 in Orr Minnesota in 1973. We picked black berries had water polo. They had leeches & bats. I deliver Meds as an Independent Contractor in San Diego California 🇺🇸
In Cali, I use nijer seed and I get these beautiful yellow birds to flock to my feeders which I hang either from the even on a string, or suction cup to the window...beautiful.
We use a wire bird feeder that holds suet. They love the fruit suit all year long and this enables them to “pick” what seeds they want. The tiny birds go for the smaller seeds, the bigger bluebirds etc go for embedded sunflower seeds. Saves dumping seeds on the ground and no mess with the suet holder. We have a three part suet holder:
We have a giant bird feeder and the squirrels come, but my daughter’s favorite critters to watch are the chipmunks. We bought chipmunk feed also and she loves watching them stuff their cheeks. For now we are just embracing it all. We have lots of rabbits too.
Thank you for taking us along on your day. I liked it very much. You have a nice life, blessed with your husband and kids and where you live. What a beautiful place. You have a lot to be thankful for. 🙏🏻✨
Thanks for sharing this video. I watch these while I compound medication for my daughter's feeding tube. I've been watching for many years, and my apartment has remained decluttered. I'm glad Tom's going to therapy. He could treat you better.
Dawn, I have MUCH less waste from the birds when I use the small sunflower PIECES instead of whole or unshelled seeds. Sometimes they're looking for smaller pieces that they don't have to break themselves. Otherwise we get rats, too, so it's the only thing I use. My next door neighbor uses in the shell sunflower seeds and has a ton of wasted seed on the ground.
We start our day in a similar fashion, but retired. I miss farm life, but in this season of life, plan on being on the road. Keep both instapots as you will need them as the boys grow and eat more. (maybe put one in the camper) Lovely family and look forward to your next book~
I love "hanging out" with you guys. You both are so dear and I think Tom is the best! ☺️ It's nice seeing you teaching your son knife & cutting skills, and sharing the kitchen chores. I have too much stuff, particularly kitchen & bathroom stuff. So hearing you reason out why or why not you keep something is hugely helpful. The best part of my day is feeding & watching the peacocks that live all around my house.
At age 75, I really enjoyed my years of being a Mom to our children. So it's so nice to see you and Tom and the kiddos live your everyday life Not boring at all .Very normal.Thank you for sharing. Plus I have learned so much about minimalist, have made a lot of progress but have a lot more to do. Keep that coming please as I listen to you as I declutter..🥰
Thank you for sharing a normal day in the life of your sweet family!!! So reassuring to see you have house projects undone! I also enjoy hearing the gems you find at Goodwill, I love shopping there too. But the best part of this video is hearing you are doing a devotional with Diana!!! Can't wait!!!
Dear Dawn, I am a homeschool mom from Canada. My 3 boys are grown up and married now. I had tears in my eyes watching your family they truly are the best years, enjoy every moment! I miss those days😂
@DawnMadsen It’s 4-2-2023; watching again. Your interactions with Tom remind me so much of me and my late husband, Mark. In the last several years, I’d climb in his truck for a Field Trip, aka Date! Sweet memories of making the most of time together! ♥️
I recently added a workout routine to the end of my day. It's only 25 minutes, but it has made a world of difference in having a more restful sleep. I'd like to add a daily morning devotional as well. Thank you for sharing your day, truly feel like we are neighbors ❤️
What about this idea….have Tom build a bench for the hallway that goes from wall to wall with one shelf underneath. It would provide a lot of shoe storage but not take up anymore room.
Love this! Birdfeeder tip... the majority of birds love black sunflower seeds, so if you buy the bags of just that seed it will cut own on seed waste from birds scratching through to find what they want. :)
I don’t usually watch this type of day in your life video anymore but I thought I would, thanks for sharing, I have literally been doing the same with my kids shoes too in a they still fit kind of way or where my daughter doesn’t love the clothes she’s bought as much I do
I am with the viewers of the last video. I asked my husband about the shorts, and he said he already has enough, so I didn’t order any for him. However, I did order the cord wrappers. They have arrived and now I just have to decide to what appliance besides my KitchenAid I’m going to apply the other cord wrapper.
What a totally satisfying day, I am so grateful to be able to come along with you and Tom and the kids for it. So full of great directions to go in, and what shines through above all is how supported everyone is to follow their plan - that is how accomplishment happens! Great question about if anyone could stand beside me as I went about my day - it really does strike me how much I tend the betterment of the people (patients) I serve and what a true privilege it is to be of help. And it makes me wish to hear more about the successes and striving that make up the days of the viewership. I promise I am awed at the power of good intentions and efforts, and how everyone's story has so much value. Around 6:40 you mentioned that books have been a major source of learning. I must say, for me, in the second half of life, it has been the internet and TH-cam. Maximum thanks to The Minimal Mom for being a steady source of inspiration!
The things I manage to fix/ modify or built from scratch all while answering texts from my spouse and being followed everywhere by our 3 full grown Labs that Make my day!
Just cut the big chickens in half before you freeze them, then you can use your small instant pot. Or, quarter them etc, until you find the right size( amount if chicken) for your smaller instapot.
I really like that you share your day. It is not boring!!! I like that it is full of family and that the routine comes together. You and Tom are so much fun to watch and I always get good tips and ideas from what you share😁
i love watching this. i love your life. you have privacy. your day is filled with everything good for physical and mental and spiritual health. i love you. i live in a busy city. you have just inspired me to appreciate my life and be grateful with what i have.

I recently painted most of my house in white and decluttered even more decor. I love it so much. I have fewer but nice bigger pieces of decor.
Dawn, you are inspired me all those years ago. I love it!
Thank you for the wholesome, family-centered, family-friendly content! love your videos!! They are NOT boring at all!
Really enjoyed this - not boring at all. I love seeing people’s daily lives. Thanks for “inviting us over” ❤️
Didn't find this video boring at all! And didn't know Diana is pregnant and having her baby around the same time as me! 🥰 There is nothing exciting happening in my life except growing this baby and trying to declutter our home on the days when it's not too hot and I am not exhausted.
NOT BORING!!!! LOVE THESE DAWN. I wouldn't want ya'll see me doing chores and being boring in my day to day life. We try to keep it very simple
You guys are so hard working. Watering my flowers are the highlight of my day. And at sunset watching the birds on the lake. We love it.
And squirrels are so flufffffy!
Also, it is great for summer to use both, main dish in the 8 qt and side dish in the 6qt keeps from heating the whole house with the oven.
I have both and use them. Keep em'!
Probably the most interesting part of my day is whoever I get to interview at my radio job. We get some amazing and fascinating guests!
There hasn’t been a show of yours that I’ve watched that I haven’t loved and I’ve been watching you for three years. You are interesting and informative! Keep up your sweet laugh, beautiful smile, and your good ideas coming…!
Yes! Nothing line a MN sunset. Love seeing it around 9p.m. this time of year.
Just wanted to take a quick moment to say I enjoy watching your videos. You and your hubby are both so likeable! I can imagine myself hanging out with you over coffee/tea. Thanks for all the tips! I live in a small home so minimalism is key!
I like the peace that I feel while watching your videos. Thank you for this content, it is much needed in this chaotic hustle bustle world
Dawn,
I know a crock pot or dutch oven aren't as "quick and easy" as the instant pot but these could be a better option for the larger meals you need to cook, while still keeping the convenient smaller instapot for the rest of your meals.
Your wholesome, close-knit family of faith and positivism bolsters my belief in the innate good of people, hope for the world! God bless you!
💜💜💜
Thanks for sharing this video. I watch these while I compound medication for my daughter's feeding tube. I've been watching for many years, and my apartment has remained decluttered. I'm glad Tom's going to therapy. He could treat you better.
OMWord! How exciting to see you have a devo in the works! Plus the class! Wow!!
I appreciate that you point out the kids have not been quietly entertaining themselves all day
Dawn, I have MUCH less waste from the birds when I use the small sunflower PIECES instead of whole or unshelled seeds.
I enjoyed learning about your day. I pray abundant blessings for your family.
White Collar is literally one of my favorites!! It's on my list of things to watch in the middle of the night when I wake up to nurse my little guy! 😊
Dear Dawn, I am a homeschool mom from Canada. My 3 boys are grown up and married now. I had tears in my eyes watching your family they truly are the best years, enjoy every moment! I miss those days😂
Super Excited about your and Diana"s devotional!!
Love the bird feeder. I have a hummingbird feeder out where I start my day. They wake me up every morning. It’s peaceful and joyful!
Love it!
YES!! I have been imagining something in my head, I just haven't told him about it yet ;)
You guys are NEVER boring ! Loved this ! And count me IN for ordering your & Diana’s book !
Your videos are never boring. Thank you for inviting us over. It was a wonderful visit. 😊
Thanks for sharing your day in your life. Not boring at all🤗
I thinks it’s wonderful how nicely your kids do chores and mind you too. Enjoying seeing a day in your life.
I love this type of video from you guys. Not boring at all.
You guys work so hard! It's nice to see your day. You are blessed.
The things I manage to fix/ modify or built from scratch all while answering texts from my spouse and being followed everywhere by our 3 full grown Labs that Make my day!
I absolutely love living vicariously through you all!!!
Ok that devotional sounds like the best thing this year!!!! I’m sooo sooo excited!!!!
Came for the decluttering - stayed for the fun story-telling!
Love how you share the love and simplicity of your life with us
Just cut the big chickens in half before you freeze them, then you can use your small instant pot. Or, quarter them etc, until you find the right size( amount if chicken) for your smaller instapot.
I really like that you share your day. It is not boring!!! I like that it is full of family and that the routine comes together. You and Tom are so much fun to watch and I always get good tips and ideas from what you share😁
Very much enjoyed this 'day in the life' format ❤️❤️
I always enjoy your videos…..daily life isn’t perfect for any of us….I like that you keep it real…..thanks for sharing….
i love watching this. i love your life. you have privacy. your day is filled with everything good for physical and mental and spiritual health. i love you. i live in a busy city. you have just inspired me to appreciate my life and be grateful with what i have.
I loved spending the day with you. It's a beautiful life ✨️
The most interesting thing about our days is usually the goat chores. Our goaties are endlessly entertaining!
Thank you for sharing your day. I am excited for the Decluttering Devotional.
Not boring at all! It's really nice to see your family in such a relaxing season.
