Exactly how I do the beans. 👍🏻Sometimes freeze with sliced blanched new potatoes to make a quick salad Nicoise. Hardly ever use a microwave but I also vacuum pack blanched beans with a knob of butter. Prick a few holes in top side of pack… 30 seconds in microwave… instant green beans to brighten up a dreary looking freezer meal or reheated leftovers.
I learned a neat trick from my Mom about getting the air out of the ziplock bag. Do as you did sealing the bag except for the corner. Then slip a straw in toward the bottom and suck the air out and remove the straw as you do and zip it closed quickly. It gets close to a vacuum seal and a lot more than any other way, and it’s fun.😎
I found "Jade" green beans at Home Depot, now I know i have good tasting and freezer friendly green beans to plant. $2.99 and I can save seeds and have beans for life. You just can't beat that.👍🏻❤️🥳
Your timing could not have been more perfect! Last night I harvested a basket full of beans and I just sat down now to prepare them for freezing and opened TH-cam to watch something while I do it... This was the top suggestion! Thank you! How long to blanch if you don't have a steamer?
My daughter just shared your Instagram channel with me and I went straight to your TH-cam! Could you share a video on how you organize your freezer? I love freezing over canning but I am always loosing track of what's in the depths of the deep freeze 😂
I have tried freezing beans raw, and blanched in various ways. (I wrote Freeze Fresh, a book about how to freeze produce). I do not recommend freezing beans raw. The taste and texture are by far the best when steam blanched. They also retain more nutrients over time when blanched.
Agree with all of this info except the storage bags: we use a vacuum sealer to eliminate most air. Even then there's a still lot of air surrounding the beans. Only submerging in a liquid (like a canned bean) will eliminate all of the air.....and eliminate ALL possibility of freezer-burn, where the inherent moisture is pulled out of the product .and frozen as crystals inside the bags.
Now I know why my frozen yellow beans were so horrible, they don't freeze well. And here I thought no frozen beans were good. Jade will be grown this year, thank you.
I really enjoy your videos you get right to the point without all the extra talk.
I appreciate that!
I do too! Great information and straight to the point.

So grateful for you and all you share!
So nice of you, thank you
Loving learning from you!
Thanks so much! 🥰🥰
I love your book. I highly recommend it. I never got around to planting green beans. I think I will try a fall crop.
Thanks so much!
I bought your book a couple of months ago and really like it. I’ve used several of the recipes too. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much! 🥰
I really like your videos. They are informative, to the point, and enjoyable to watch ☺️Thank you for the time you put into them for us.

You have the prettiest voice. Thank you..... starting tonight : ). Just bought a vac sealer though and prolly going to use it

even though common practice, you don't have to blanch them. We vacuum seal raw beans, freeze and they have excellent flavor and texture.

@@wholefedhomestead ok thanks 👍🏼
Thank you this was helpful. My first time blanching and freezing green beans
Glad it was helpful!
I still need to blot the blanched and cooled beans dry on a towel, but a salad spinner gets them most of the way there pretty quickly.
Try adding some minced garlic. They are really good also. 😊
Amazing! New to your channel but have definitely subscribed. Thank you
Awesome! Thank you!
Do you think it would work thawing beans that weren't blanched...... Blanching them like this, then refreeze them?
Definitely do not do that. If you didn't blanch them then you'll want to eat them within a month or two.
New subscriber because u made me lick the screen on the salty juicy haba haba caramel topping video ok! 😂
Haha! Thanks! Welcome! 🥰

A vacuum sealer is nice but totally not necessary to have great quality beans that last at least a year in the freezer.

Yes- yellow beans are awful frozen!
