I've been working on so many Urban Legends videos for you guys recently and every time I think we've peaked, another country surprises me with just how strange and creepy their urban legends are. Is love Magic yes! My grandmother always told me to never walk into the fog rings on the field or the elves would rag you underground, and on full moon nights you could here the lost people's screams.

Here in Austria we don't have many wide spread legends, but it seems that nearly every old town has their own scary legend. My little village, founded in the 13th century, has a gruesome one. There is a house near the market place, a very old and gloomy one with a passage through. At night it gives off an eerie vibe and people claim they can hear a child's faint cry. The reason given ist that when the house was built, a young girl was walled into there. She died inside the wall next to the passage, never letting people forget her fate.

The "the silver train" was real you know. It was 8 carriages that were used in the subway for some thirty years. The reason for all the ghost story's was because silverpilen (the silver arrow) had a very specific sound that was very ghostlike. Kymlinge is a station scary on its own so it was naturally paired with the unique train with the scary sound.

When I was little my grandma used to tell me and my sister about nyken, ”näcken”. He was a naked boy who played violin on a rock in the water. She said that he played the violin to lure in children. That’s how she taught us to stay away from the water when we were little 😂

Näcken and Nyken is actually two diffrent folklore creatures. But they are super similar. But the only diffrents between them gotta be that näcken is a beautiful naked dude and nycken is a ugly shape-shifting creature.
I think so.... Swedish folklore is kinda confusing.
When I was a kid my grandma used to tell me about all sorts of urban legends. Näcken (Nyk) especially frightened me since there was a statue of it in a lake pretty close to my house. The story she told me though was that he would play a violin and lure children and women, when they got close enough he would drown them in the lake.

It's funny how non-Swedish, or non-Scandinavian, people often say that "Ö" is the hardest letter to pronounce, yet they usually pronounce our "U" as "Ö".

So I live in Sweden and my favourite one is the... Nek? Idk what you called it, but in Swedish it’s Näcken. My grandma would tell me stories about how Näcken would lure kids and women into the water by sitting there naked.
On another note: my grandma would also tell me about once when her grandpa (in the 1800ds) was out with his horses he saw a little creature, it scared him so much he fell and dropped red paint all over himself, and apparently ever since then the creature (my grandma called it a gårdstomte) helped out by watering the plants and other such things while they were asleep.
This has lead to a tradition where grandma puts out a bowl of oatmeal and a glass of wine every Christmas to thank him.
- I know this is just a silly story but my grandma really believes it haha -

I grew up in Skurup, a small town in which Svaneholm castle is located. I always loved horror but I never believed in the ghost stories surrounding the castle. I always took a walk in the woods during the summer and sometimes autumn. I and my brothers used to grill in the woods beside the castle some summer nights. Good memories.

We have the Nyk here too in Faroe Islands! Here its just called Nykurin. It changes shapes and lures people to his pond. Its normal shape looks like a horse like creature and has lonh beautiful hair. It uses its hair to trap people in, tangling them stuck to his hair and drag them into the pond to drown them. Yet you can get away from it by saying its name Nykurin where he will screech and let you go before going into his pond again. Its not easy to find

The myling is one of the scariest things! There's a children's book series about Swedish mythical creatures (PAX by Ingela Korsell and Åsa Larsson) and the book about the myling is one of the scariest things I've read, even as an adult. Näcken (or Nyk as they said in the video) also shows up, along some other real creepy folklore!

In one place in Sweden called Gotland there is this big ancient castle and in one tower a lady was locked in there and now people say that they can here her screaming and crying.
oh nice. Gotland and Lättland i think are islands though right? Despite me being Swedish, i always saw those two to be a little disconnected from the mainland with their own things to deal with and focus on. could be wrong though since im a Stockholm dude xD And despite me living in a foresty area in Järfälla Kommun, they dont have any folklore or mythology there at all.

The third one is called "Näcken" and it is basically a handsome young man playing violin by the river or lake. He lures women down in the water to then drown them.

The nyk was a story told to kids around the 1500 to keep them from going into the forest. It was a big problem that kids would run into the forests and get lost and never come back.

i was a physical therapist intern from 1999 - 2000 when i heard of this story and it goes like this
a family of three was on a trip when they met an accident, wife and kid passed, husband / driver survived
months later, a presence could be felt, misplaced items, clothes hanger tossed to the ground from a direction with even if there is no one there, dogs would be heard whimpering, and many other things

My dad has ridden the silver train and he told me it was just a train that went from station to station. It's a good myth. It's made in Alu, a regular subway weights was about 50 tons, the silver trian was around 30 tons.
