Thie piece is crazy good. Tuneful, exciting writing for the soloist plus terrific orchestration. The composer, in addition to being an outstanding baritone saxophonist, knows how to make a symphonic band sound rich and powerful. This is a highly listenable work that's fun without being banal or simplistic. Very well done!
This is gorgeous! It's rare to hear really great solo works like this for low reeds. As a bassoonist myself, I appreciate some of the soli moments I hear in there. (:
I wish we had the bari for so much longer! I can only imagine what Mozart or Bach could’ve pulled out of this thing. The bari lacking repertoire is a tragedy
@@xaviermarican4557 some of the bach cello suites are performed on bari sax. several flute partitas as well as oboe and flute sonatas sound great with soprano sax.
Mark Watters truly is amazing!!! I'm hoping to play this next year (senior year of high school) so my school librarian contacted him. Wouldn't you know, Watters gives us a photocopy of the full score FOR FREE. So kind. And such a beautiful piece and solo too. Thank you, Mr. Watters. Hopefully my school will be able to purchase this so you can have a momentous impact on my senior year!
Unbelievable performance. I was 1st chair in all state band in high school in GA and videos like this didn’t exist 10 years ago. Absolutely loved it. And for those altissimo g’s a’s and that one high b, absolutely ridiculous lol.
This is amazing, and amazingly difficult... I play bari sax in my high school marching band and jazz band, and all lack of technique and skill aside, I can guarantee my old instrument can't bring its keys up fast enough for those runs. What an incredible piece of musical literature, though
I had the pleasure of playing this tune and I absolutely Loved it! Thank you Mark for composing this piece and for allowing me to play it in front of you!!
The most amazing Bari song I've ever heard. I appreciate the amount of skill this song takes. I wish I could play this song though. The highest note I can hit on my Bari is high G. So unfortunately I won't be able to play it until I have a decent Bari that can hit high notes well. Every other Bari I've ever played on could do high notes so beautifully. Russian Sailors' Dance was my 8th grade solo and I got a superior in it. But this, if I could play this, that would show I am a good player and I work for my spot
Awesome. Most people I see who try to play it for a solo and ensemble performance usually have critical errors. My judge had nothing bad to say. He said I played it perfectly. And he was one of the toughest judges
As a baritone saxophonist and an oboist, I love this piece, especially that little back-and-forth section between bari and oboe lol. I'm gonna be doing a ("simplified") version of this next year--senior year--with my school's band and I'm so excited to have this feature! Go bari sax! Also, I can't decide if this piece reminds me more of the Legend of Zelda or Mario Galaxy lol
@Matthew Benedict Removing or changing up some of the quicker notes and rhythms in the accompanying parts, mostly. Also changing the instrumentation (adding saxes!) so our poor french hornist doesn't have to wail on high B's or whatever
As a composition, it reminds me of Leonard Bernstein. Not at all bad. And while it might never be considered a Major Work, it'll get many performances at college band concerts and senior recitals.
He did do a few things for Disney actually ^^ as well as other animated films: including All Dogs Go To Heaven 2, The Pebble and the Penguin, Tom Sawyer, Doug's 1st Movie, Babes In Toyland (1997), and tv cartoons like Bonkers and Goof Troop. He also composed music for the Olympic Ceremonies of Atlanta 1996 and Salt Lake City 2002
Mark Watters Music is it possible to get a pdf of some sort of just the bari part as shown here? I’m doing a concerto competition and if I win I get to buy the whole arrangement for orchestra and play it.
As a bari, this is my religion.
Thank you!
This soloist has complete control over his instrument. And it's also surprising how he's able to play those runs with such clarity
The soloist is the composer, and he truly appreciates the beauty of the instrument
not to mention the altissimo
@@ericshenderovich6023 bro i respect that so much

Probably the best piece out there for classical bari. Thanks so much for writing it! :D
Don’t Mention It
Sammy Westenberger hmmm... you didn’t write it

@@ice-iu3vv trust me, I know! I got my start playing the cello suites on bari and I’m playing a flute partita on soprano right now.
So impressed by the pianissimo at 6:29 :0

wow, really? could you send me the bari part if we exchanged emails?

I had the pleasure of playing this tune and I absolutely Loved it! Thank you Mark for composing this piece and for allowing me to play it in front of you!!

are there multiple movements to it? i know sometimes its not clearly indicated
This music is extremely hard to play. Very nice! Amazing!!!
Wow what a tour de force! Who knew the bari sax could be that agile?
I’ve listened to this so many times any never fail to be knocked out by the writing and performance. What a joy!

Hey I did the Russia dance as well, cool to see someone else play it.

Also since I did my past post, I have left just to learn the altissimos and the cadenza perfectly
Cool, I really want to learn the altisissimo notes but my Bari is school owned and not the best at high notes.
Same... Hoping my senior year my parents will buy me a Bari. One that I get to try out on. That would be the day then I could play it through college
One of the best pieces I have ever heard in my life.Magnum opus in the field of classical music for saxophone.Congrats and thanks to the Mr.Watters.
Excellent! very performing artist: Bravo !
I love this so much and want to try and play it my senior year
I was impressed with this piece and your performance years ago in LA and I still am. Great piece and great performance! Bravo!!
Bravo Mark. Very smart composition. Inspiring as i have to cimpose for a baryton ensemble next month 🙏
Section C sends shivers up my spine.
I am a composer and I would love to buy and study this score. It's an absolutely incredible composition. And what a virtuoso! Awesome 😎💯.

Fantastic work!
This would work really well as a marching band song honestly
I’m going to try to get a copy
of this
I'd sure like to see Stephen Malinowski do an animated score for this performance.
classical bari, the oxymoron of classical saxophone
Mulliganesque baritone sound. Nice. Great piece.
I want to learn this so bad
Bravo!!!
makes me want to cry. I don't have Bari sax so I haven't got to play it for a long time.
Magistral !
Faudra m'expliquer pour les suraigus...
i love 12:01 its so energetic and fun
fantàstic !!!!
This is my goal for my senior year in high school.
+Ilikebeinme 2411 Do you have that range?
+Alex Markley i do not lol
3 more notes and I will have the range. And that's on a Jupiter Bari. Imagine with a better one
Same! But I actually have had the range since freshman year
What Bari brand and mouthpiece you have?
Wao➰😃➰ wanderfull!!
凄い‼️ ➰♪Halleruya♪➰
Wow.
goddam this shit is beautiful
I will never be able to play this song no matter how hard I try
not in a million years
Give me ten years of pure practice on this song
Shades of "Creation du Monde!" by Milhaud.
asked lesson teacher if we could work on this. he laughed
Does anyone know where I can get an original published copy of this

Thats awesome u should make bassoon song too
PLEASE TELL ME IF THERE ARE SEPARATE MOVEMENTS
This is ace!

I wonder what mouthpiece and reeds this player uses.
Well it's not a jazz setup, I can tell you that.
Beautiful piece, i'd like to buy a pdf version, would it be possible?

Which version (piano, concert band, or orchestra) is the original version?
What orchestra originally premiered this piece, and is there a recording?
Mark Watters Music is it possible to get a pdf of some sort of just the bari part as shown here? I’m doing a concerto competition and if I win I get to buy the whole arrangement for orchestra and play it.
This is awesome! I bet it would translate really well for Alto Sax(8va) or for Cello(sounding in the same octave as the bari)
No! This is one of the only Bari concert solos that sound good!
+Dark_Magic_11 lol
Matkat Music tru, let classical bari have like one cool thing all to itself. plus have fun playing low A's on alto
Nathan McCuistion yes this is great for bari. in case you would like to play it with alto should be a selmer mark vi alto sax with low A key
This is so going in my senior recital my last year in college
Is this for real…..!!!
Who is the soloist of this song?
Mark himself
Who is the bari soloist performing in this recording?
The composer, Mark Watters
"Mark, this is too complex, you couldn't find someone good enough to play it"
Mark:"Hold my beer"
This piece is like college freshman/sophomore level material.
Joseph Fry idk I’ve been jamming it pretty well and I’m a junior in high school
TheGreat_Benzoni same here, pretty hard to play a little tho but it is really fun
Soloist could have been better but great piece!
The soloist is Mark Watters, the composer of the piece.😮
