Zelah Clarke and Timothy Dalton are the best Jane and Rochester, the first one I watched and I had to read it before the series ended, 1983 (me aged 11).
This is so fun-you definitely make me want to pick up all of these books, to read and to reread. And to watch! I loved Wives and Daughters-that was my first Gaskell. And as someone else mentioned, the 1983 version of Jane Eyre with Zelah Clark and Timothy Dalton completely swept me away as a young teen.
Kate, I love hearing about people’s journeys with Victorian lit and booktube has been the most significant part of my own, especially you and Katie! I had no idea The Heir of Redclyffe was so emotional so am extra specially looking forward to getting to it in December!

I was glad to have lived under a rock previously, because not knowing anything really made me love this story more. I was there. I think if I reread it in a couple months I would feel the same. I loved it so much.
Thank you, Kate! Yes! to the David Copperfield series with Daniel Radcliffe: Maggie Smith IS Betsy Trotwood. Also has one of my favorite Victorian quotes from Aunt Betsy to David: "Never be mean in anything; never be false; never be cruel." Words to live by. Tears me up every time. I just finished The Heir Of Redclyffe, which I enjoyed, especially Charles, although all her characters are so real and rounded. One day soon I'll get to Wives and Daughters. Happy Victober!

I also love listening to music when I read. I picked up and read the beginning of Great Expectations when I was a young teenager and I still haven't gone back even though I've read other Dickens 😂 Have you read The Light Princess by George MacDonald? I haven't read a ton of his works but The Light Princess is much more light than his others
I just read "Wives and Daughters" in October , and I agree with your comments. It is lovely and so heartwarming - and totally different to "North and South" (or "Mary Barton"). Hard to believe they are by the same author.
Hi Kate… I really enjoyed this video. I do read Victorian literature but I take it slow. I’m so embarrassed to admit this, but I have never read Jane Eyre. I’ve seen the movies and I think I know the story, but this month I am actually picking up the book and reading it slowly and loving it. I have been participating In Victober for several years and I enjoy everyone’s videos, but yours are my favorites. Your intro music and sketches just scream Victober🍂
I loved Wives and Daughters too. I’ve taken to listening to what Victorian novels I find in audiobooks, I don’t have the patience anymore to read hundreds of words on paper when someone can read them to me! Thank you for your videos.
I hope to read Return Of The Native soon. I'm sure a lot of those novels you read would make wonderful adaptations.Alas we are living in the age of the deplorably transient quick hit.
