If memory serves me correctly, we had a swarm of characters that each had just a couple of skills. At least, allow more characters to carry bodies and tie up unconscious enemies. Of course, don't make the characters too polyvalent either, as it would be game-breaking, but, at the very least, re-balance the lot.

Commandos 2, Desperado and Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood are my favorites in this list. I played three of them along with Age of Empires 1 & 2, CnC 2: Tiberian Sun and StarCraft when I was studying in Standard II. I miss those golden days! ❤️😍❤️
I think Mimimi perfected the Commandos-like genre. Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3 are simplistic in the right way and complex exactly where needed. What I disliked in Commandos sequels like inventory management, looting enemies, slow turning animation and occasional "act fast" missions just doesn't belong in this type of games.

I get what you are saying, but pausing literally let's you plan 1 move and that move has to be executed in real time. Also, on the hardest difficulty time does not stop in showdown mode, so does that mean players who choose the hardest difficulty are playing a Real Time Tactics game but if you play on normal mode then you are not playing an RTT?

It's a stand-alone game. It has a different interface and you have more abilities when using 2 characters (you can have John and Sam fist fight everyone in an area, John and Doc attack everyone in an area with guns, Sam and Hawkeye use explosive arrows and so on).
I think it was intended to be a DLC for Desperados 2 (if I remember correctly some of the levels from Helldorado were in the Desperados 2 trailer) , but they upgraded it into a full game.
I played the gog version of Robin Hood a few years ago and it had big performance issues with gameplay of only a few fps. In the video you see a shadow of an npc instead of the npc, so I take its still a glitchfest with poor performance on new hardware.
There's actually a lot of fixes around online, this game was not made for modern hardware (and software), if you want to run this game smoothly it's still totally possible, I use a program called "dgvoodoo" for it

What about "Crookz - The Big Heist"? I found that a very enjoyable sneaky-realtime-tactics game with a distinct style of Ocean's Eleven in the 70s.

@@RobustNut I found Shadow Tactics to be more challenging than Desperados 3. Though Desperados 3 felt more refined.
Partisans is more action oriented. Plays like a mix of Commandos 2 and Company of Heroes with RPG elements.

well, it's stealth focused, and has many options of distracting and confusing guards. XCOM doesn't have that.

that shadow is not a glitch. some enemies are depicted as shadows until you go near them and discover their type.
