    Awesome video, great coaching, after years of following everything that doesn't work or made my running worse, boy, am I glad I found your channel. I was shocked that after almost a year of dealing with IT band issues, rolling or stretching it like an idiot, took Eric's advice and did some glute strengthening exercises, fixed the problem in a couple of days. WHAT? So hard to find what ACTUALLY works for ultra running. This very complex mechanism, the human body is not that easy to use RIGHT. Am training for 24H flat race and a 48H one next year; also an Everesting race.

      @@EnoughBulllove it and thanks for sharing. My focus this winter is to really target ways for ultra runners to get faster. Stay tuned for a long form video next week on using speed for ultras.

    Great video! Man, if my roads looked like THAT, I wouldn't hate road running! Seriously though, you gave me a lightbulb moment. I became so much slower, and I've realized I tackled my huge overstriding issue, without them fixing my cadence. So i shortened my stride, and didn't make up the difference- or improve- by increasing cadence, resulting in a glacial pace. Maybe I don't really suck, I just missed an important component!

      @@Kelly_Ben bingo, this made my day and I try and pride myself in all the subtle points that many miss, that lead to huge gains. Thanks for sharing this and keep me posted.

    I’m in Tanzania and the Maasai also use these type of shoes made of tires. I moved here with xero shoes for running which is very difficult!! Now I know some things to try being in a situation similar to the Indians! Let’s see! Asante for the tips! Much appreciated

      jambo, yes maasai sandals are very similar to xero sandals / shoes 👍, just go pole - pole to begin with

    Thank you for sharing the pictures from copper canyon. Actually I use self-made huarache sandals from a car wheel. The rubber is old and hard. On the street ist sounds clack clack clack. I love it to run on coarse gravel with them.

      Nice!! I realized I have so many good photos and what to keep finding was to add them into content.

    Curious on shoe recommendations if Xero shoes fit perfectly. Thanks for the coaching. I have a modest goal of 10 miles

      @BornToRunCoach  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@drdan9158 first recommendation is never use the word modest. Any distance can be a great challenge based on your goal of learning from the race.
      I don't normally give shoe recommendations, but shoe philosophy towards strength and performance. So maybe keep using the Xero shoe for strength and find a little more of a shoe that feels good to you and allows you to run faster over trails???

    Great information! There’s not a running shoe that replicates the huarache.

    Thank you for another great video! =)
    I think I am the slow runner you are talking about =p
    My cadance is 150-155 on long slow runs and 160 on shorter fast runs.
    I find it hard to increase cadance while running slow, for me more steps always increase speed, so I can't maintain zone 2 (if I go for 180). But I will try the shorter, faster bursts of high cadance during slow runs, and see how I change over time.
    Is there a guideline for how many short fast sections you should do, once every 15 or 30 min or so?
    P.S. I think the bursts are also sometimes called "Fartlek", which is from my language Swedish, and means "Speed play"

      I would also watch my cadence playlist for more. I think you also have Born To Run 2, so all of the strength skills in the program will help with cadence.

    Is there a diminishing return on increasing cadence? I finally am getting my avg almost to 180 on many runs but not sure if going past 180 will be more inefficient.

    • @BornToRunCoach
      @BornToRunCoach  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@arenhansen625 don't over think it. Just run fast and the hill shouldn't allow your cadence to be too high. Let it feel natural with good force into the ground.

      @BornToRunCoach No i'm talking about the opposite. Speed up on flat ground and downhill and slow down when running uphill. Watch the terrain and If its easy to run accelerate accordingy.

      @theunmobablespes6582 yup that's also a great strategy and have many videos on that. The point of this video was to solely look at cadence gains during base building. Thanks for chiming in and love how you are thinking about trail strategy.
