Gate is by far one of my new favorite animes. Definitely in my top 5. The animation is amazing, and the concept is fucking epic. I was skeptical when I first heard it thinking it was gonna be one of those anime shows where the main character is too op and destroys people with inferior weapons and abilities. But seeing the political sides of both these nations and how different they are and how they clash, it's just amazing. And also has some of the most bone chilling badass moments, such as the scene where the prince went to approach the Lieutenant after they save the princess only for that sniper shot to come out of nowhere essentially giving him PTSD, it was scary just to think about how weak this nation is and how dumb the empire was to underestimate such a powerful force that couldnt even use the full extent of their military might.
My experiences with this anime are directly opposite to yours. I loved it at first (especially the horror of modern firepower in the clash with medieval-level armies shown IN YOUR FACE), but it quickly and painfully devolved into a harem anime focused on fantasy girls prancing around the main character. It was horrible. T^T

Rewatched it and it really is one of those gems that makes you feel glad to be alive. This near future image of military and mc's that are someone who kicks ass instead of getting his ass kicked (and not an anime about some power freak demon king or untouchable hero) definitely is unique. Basically at least 1 world where everyone being 100 times more powerful than anything from our world is not the case.
the real reason most of us watch G.A.T.E. is Rory Mercury once you've admitted that little fact to yourself you'll feel better about yourself and keep on waiting for season 3-4 with the rest of us.
To tell the truth i watched because of the modern army x medieval army... Sad that it wasn't so explored in the series... I would like to see cavalry x a tank, it would be fun. xD
