Man this is SO good. It really feels fresh and original. I didn’t know that the 0-Coast could ever sound like this. The addition of the pedals really takes it to new and compelling places.
@@quantum_ocean It's aged pretty well. These days I mostly work with digital modular stuff (vcvrack) for larger, more complex patches, but the 0-coast still holds a special place in my heart as the one analog synthesizer I was lucky enough to be able to buy (back when I was 15, too! crazy). It has so much personality and an architecture open enough to encourage exploration and experimentation, which is the most rewarding part of synthesis for me. It doesn't work for everyone, but it's perfect for me!
Awesome performance! Can someone explain the signal path? I don't understand in which order she connected the 0-coast and the pedals. Would be really helpful for me to find an answer. Thanks!
Malcolm Ragan I was in the same boat till last week. Sold it thinking 2 synths w/out patch mem would not work w/ my time constraints but now I have just the 0-coast and sub phatty. The 0-coast my mayhem playground. You’ll be back Malcom, you’ll be back.
I can almost hear Doctor Phil saying 'what were you thinking...' It's such a pretty little module on its own and a beast of a control center in a bigger case.
🌈 great set! the 0-coast to me is great even with over 10 rows of modular. #1 it's just fun to grab and go with / jam before bed and it's also a killer piece of gear to let friends figure out before touching your main setup. one thing i dig about this unit is the reverse power protection from wrong patches, perfect for a new user. also adding some passive things like mults, attenuator, and a LPG or two or three (or four!) makes this thing quite a bit more complex! got one as a trade and just can't let it go :P it's actually a great way to get into modular imho also, and you can expand it with those passive things i mentioned before really going deep into eurorack land :] rock on
ehafh I agree. I’m borrowing a DFAM, 0-Coast, and Korg SQ-1 while their owner is on vacation. Last night I must have played around with the 0-Coast for 2 or 3 hours. So much fun by itself and when sequenced with the SQ-1 its even better. Very impressed with this little guy. I can imagine it would be at least 3 times as expensive to replicate it with eurorack modules and a case w/ power supply. The MIDI functionality is excellent as well. I’d love to see Make Noise release another synth like this.
Great performance. The use of the effects adds A LOT to the dry output of the 0-coast, that is where the magic of this performance happens. This video makes me want a POG and I guess I'm not the only one ;-)
Such a great sound. I'm very new to O Coast and tried replicating this patch. I get pretty close but the clock clicks kind of spoil it. Not sure how to get rid of them.
Does anyone get how this patch works? More specifically: Contour seems to be triggered, but it's not clear to me what it modulates, since the Dynamics connection is broken (by Clock? Or Triangle?).
I tried patching my 0coast exactly as she did, and it sounds nothing like that. what are those effects besides that digital delay? sounds great- deep and gritty. the 0-coast alone sounds super weak and higher pitched for some reason
In the video Meg is using an EHX Micro-Pog octave generator for the sub-octaves. She tuned the 0-Coast to a range that would create good-sounding sub-octaves using this. She also has a Boss phrase looper in the mix, which doubles up portions and thickens the resulting sound.
How did you sync the clock on the boss loop pedal with the ocoast? Did you just use tap tempo on the boss or can it be synced otherwise? Thanks! I have used a boss loop pedal for many, many years, but I still don’t know how to sync it to modular. Any suggestions would be very appreciated!! Great video:)
Agreed. And I've got two Mom 32's that I usually use as a single, dual oscillator mono synth. I just wish the O-Coast was as easily Eurorackable as the Mom's.
Honestly I think it’s just different. The Mother is cleaner more basic for just standard synth work. This is more experimental and gritty for sound exploration. Depending on which one you like (I like both) it would sound better for you.
this performance + 'silent' interview is a great idea, more please!
Man this is SO good. It really feels fresh and original. I didn’t know that the 0-Coast could ever sound like this. The addition of the pedals really takes it to new and compelling places.
It doesn’t sound like that. she loaded up on the effects.
This is so so good. Favourite 0-coast performance that I’ve seen. Love the use of the POG and Loop Station 🌀
This is my favourite 0 Coast video. I've tried reconstructing the this patch so many times but it's never quite right!
Elegant and minimal industrial and very driven! My favorite way to do electronic music! One take one track .Peace Christo 👽🐕🎶🛸🛸☮️💀
More 0-Coast performance videos, please! 😊
This is why the 0-coast is my favorite synthesizer! I love you guys!
how has your comment aged? What do you think of 0_coast today?

I realy love it. I also like her approach to the instruments. Now my 0-Coast is jealous
I loove that drone! Its freakin awesome. I gotta do some experiments with similar stuff. Thanks for the video
Amazing and very inspiring!

The low end of the 0-coast is just earth shattering. I was a damn fool to get rid of mine, need to get a new one soon

Big ups to Kelly at Make Noise for bringing people and machines together

Lovely, warm and organic.

Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing with us.
Excellent performance I have no idea how I managed to miss this
Awesome! Very creative take on drones and minimal patching.
Thank You for time and effort!
A really inspiring performance.
thanks for watching!
amazing. instant fan
So good! Best O-Coast piece I've heard. Thank you!
Very nice thank you !
Very good, like it!
Fantastic improvisation
Meg is the coolest !
finally, an 0-coast video that I get on board with!
There's some really cool subtle sounds coming out of this setup. Very nice!
Amazing!
beautiful
Love the format of this interview/demo. Awesome drone too ;)
I LOVE MAKE NOISE !

Nice! Great use of the Pog.
great piece!

Mesmerizing
love this!!!!
Love it! Great job!
Impressive!
сООООООL.
I LOVE MAKE NOISE
This was super cool
This is so good.
Very nice. Anew artist to explore too. Thanks.
how is the Boss Looper synced with O-coast? Really Nice!
totally inspiring
Sounds so damn good!
Super
Awesome ❤️
I really feel like I could learn a lot from her on many different levels.

INSPIRING
That Pog is a great idea.
great drone ... it makes me hmmm
Nothing short of inspirational...

Meg says:
"No quantizing.
No syncing.
No tap tempo.
All by ear!
:)"
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Thank you Meg! Well, it sounds wonderful! :)
More with less. Really nice.
Is it possible to know all the gears she's using with the 0-coast?
Boss phrase looper (I think it's an RC-30), Boss DD-8 digital delay, Electro Harmonix Micro Pog octave generator.
👏👂👂👂👂👂👂
Very cool
Can I hook an 0 coast to pedals like in this video w/o any special gear?
Yes
MAKEN0ISE Total noob question, I know, but thank you for the quick response! The 0-Coast is such an inspiring machine, I'm loving it.
How is the 0coast being triggered? Can it trigger itself?
Yes, the Slope and Clock circuits can be made to pulse regularly :)
Just need Strymon Magneto!!! 🙃
What is that top left dual-pedal
Boss RC-20 loop station
With enough effects even that hipster noise machine can sound good.
Personally I feel it's sonically superior to the Mother 32. This is coming from a Mother 32 owner

What was she using to sequence this? Or was it a self generating patch?
It was self-gen
no sequencer. looks like the slope EOC gate is patched to the V/Oct, effect, and the clock (presumably tapped) is triggering the contour.
Sounds like Fuck Buttons. Sold.
Yep better than a wall of eurokrak.
Sounds better than a wall full of eurorack
Honestly I think it's the absolute best value in patchable synthesis out there. You get SOOOOOO much bang for your buck.
ok, yeah, this thing packs a good value and all, but let's not be delusional.
it's a good gear but let's not exaggerate.
Missing green font ic
let's exagerate and be delusional, it's art, and this little synth box is into it
Zzzzzzzzzz
