Atoto A6 Android head unit install / review

- Atoto sent me this head unit for a test / review video. This part turned into a sort of install video and would have been too long to go over the whole unit. This model is the A6Y2721PB.
But so far it's faster than my Eonon unit.
So I'll make another video demoing the units features.
They also sent a reverse camera and a DAB unit and they'll get their own videos as well.

Great stuff, I just bought one myself, have to install it still. Good to hear that you don't have any problems with it. I am very skeptical if it comes to cheap stuff coming from Asia, but I read a lot of reviews and thought, what the hell..., if it's crap, I'll send it back. thanks for the video.
did it end up being crap? and what model did you go with?
@@TheBlackBannana I got the A6 Premium with the buttons on the bottom, and it's been great so far. Bought the dash cam and the back up camera, so far no complains. The sub control is only for an external amplifier, which I also have, sound is great, for the few bucks compared to the OEM I think it's worth it. Plus it does way more than the original. My brother has a Pioneer, spent almost 3 times more and it only has about half the capabilities of the A6.
Nice video David, how's the head unit been after a bit of use? Any disappointing elements?
Lack of split screen as it's using an older version of Android. Not life or death but was nice before to be able to have Spotify and Navigation up at the same time.

After watched your video, I just ordered one exact same one you got there. ;) the Only question is that GPS and Wifi antenna. Can those be left inside of the dashboard as you did? Would it work inside like that? Thank you for the wonderful video.
As long as there is no metal panels stopping the GPS from 'seeing' the sky. My wifi reaches the house from the drive outside, so that's pretty good for being inside the dash I thought.
Let Atoto know it would be great to have a head unit that would also record from front and rear dashcams. It would reduce all the electronic 'clutter' in my camper.
I know it does record from at least one dashcam, as it keeps telling my external storage isn't formatted. I hope to do a more in depth look at once the weather improves.

I don't think it does as they sell an addon Android Auto box.

The other unboxings I've watched didn't contain an ISO plug. Their website doesn't mention it being included in the box either. Do you have any idea why there's the discrepancy
The ones on Amazon I looked at show an ISO power cable in the pictures. I assumed everything comes with an ISO fitting these days.

@@DavidMcLuckie Can you recall what the open wires on the ISO plug are for? Before importing an Atoto A6, I want to make sure I'm buying all of the correct things. I'm buying a Connects2 wiring harness that will hopefully allow me to keep my steering wheel controls. Wondering how its all going to wire together though. Are those loose wires for the Steering wheel controls, perhaps?
Off the top of my head - reverse camera trigger, aerial / sub trigger, illumination / dimmer and I think analogue steering button inputs.
I like how you present your show…however, i was just you or anyone work me through step by step setting or installing Android head unit into car

Going to go over more features when the temperature is a bit warmer. But so far out of the Atoto, Eonon and Pumpkin headunits. The Atoto has't crashed once.

As it is a good unit but unfortunately doesn’t support full rca video out that’s not ideal for setups with headrest monitors. They definitely need to change this
Is the front usb quick charge?
Negative, but one of the rears on the extension cable is.
@@DavidMcLuckie do i need any extra devices for mirror link. Or will it do that on android without any extras?
I'm sure it just does it with the USB connection. It's been a while since I tried it, but I couldn't find a good use for it.

I'd have to say excellent, but I'd already changed all the speakers and added sound deadening.

How do you add the GPS?
Do you mean the GPS antenna or the software?
@@DavidMcLuckie Software. Do you need an internet connection? I dont have internet in my garage. Or can I download it to my android phone and then connect it to the head unit.
It depends on the app you use. I use Google maps. But to install it you'll need an internet connection. So if your mobile plan has enough data and your phone supports it you can use your phone as a 'mobile hotspot'. This lets your headunit connect to the phone and then to the internet and can download from the app store and get updates etc. Option B is install the head unit in the car and park near your house or somewhere the wifi reaches outside. Then you can install the app and in Google maps you can download 'offline maps' so it will continue to work without data, but it will need updated regularly. Other GPS apps are available that don't require mobile data and store the maps on an SD card, but these won't be as up to date as a map with an internet connection.

It's actually the only time I get to listen to music. Don't worry, it gets plenty of spirited driving. Forged engine, Syvecs ECU, etc. Running about 420bhp just now. It's good fun.

Where's the breast place to mount the GPS and wifi
I've just been mounting mine on top of each head unit. But it depends how much metal is between there and the sky.
@@DavidMcLuckie Did you mount the GPS on top the unit as well? If so, was there any problems? I always thought you needed line of sight for GPS dongles.
Yes, I've done the same on all the Android head units I've had. As long as your dashboard isn't a metal box the receiver will 'see' the sky.
Blurs out picture, can still make out the lakes and rivers.
