Unfortunately, I am getting older, and with that, I can't see as well as I used to. I can't see my welds. Especially when working in dark cramped places. I decided to add this utility light to my auto darkening hood to see if it would help. The light fit directly on with to "j" clips and the rubber backing made it stick to the helmet's surface. Most importantly, this light did not add any added bulk to the helmet itself. The light made it easy to see prior to initiating the ARC and the auto darkening hood cut the visibility as it should when the ARC was generated. Basically, having the light on did not affect how the hood works. This will be a permanent helmet mod and is now one of my favorite welding accessories.
I have been wanting to make this welding helmet mod for some time now. Starting a weld in dark places can always be a challenge until you get the arc started (even with an auto darkening helmet). This fixes all that and will certainly help me achieve better looking welds.
This worked so well, I decided to add it to my motorcycle helmet. It worked great here as well adding light to wherever you look. Normally looking down where you put your feet on the roadway can be difficult. With the helmet light, I was perfectly able to see the surface I was putting my foot down on. It was also fun to look over at the car next to me and light up the entire side of their car.
Awesome tool with endless uses in the industry or in any recreation or hobby. This would also be extremely helpful fishing, camping or during the hurricane season here in Florida when all the power goes out.

Sorry... that would have been helpful. I have an easier option for you. Use the big paper clips with the wings to spread the metal open. I bet these would work even better, or be more available to most people. Thank you for watching : )

Most decent motor factors sell Durite Torches. Their range includes a similar product as well as an extendable led torch which is very handy too.

Welcome! Try the paper clips with the wings on them. Use them to clamp on the left and right of the hood. I have mine clear of the headgear luckily.

Nice video, what helmet are you using? My helmet has photo cells at the brow above the sheild and on the chin below. Not opposed to a helmet change since I'm in the same situation as you. Thanks for sharing! - Carey

I got this one from lowes. Its a Kobalt. This is my most favorite helmet yet. Luckily the light clamped on easily too.

Yes. I have used this setup welding on my back under cars. I have had no issues other than the same abuse your welding helmet takes.

Quite a while. It will vary on what intensity you have it set on. 8 hours on low

you need to put that its a paid promotion! I could tell right off the bat it was a sponsored video. I bought one of these from Temu for 4 bucks and they dont work very well at all. Amazon even sells them for $12 please dont try to rip off your subs!
