I can relate. I once worked receiving (the guys who take new merchandise in off trucks) in a grocery store. You really get in the mindset of an SCV constantly repeating the same actions.
Try being a Welder/Fabricator running around with a plasma cart and Mig box slinging steel. Much more SCV like, That and working with hillbillys all day! :)

When I look back at those late 90s and early 2000s years, what would starcraft had been without the soundtrack? There is something bittersweet about understanding that I will never get those times back ever again

I like the Terran music a lot, but I think it gets a bit of an advantage because it's the first really catchy campaign music you hear, so it sticks with you.

That may be true. Or maybe it is because terrans have an opposable thumb that allow the use of electric guitar, wich sounds nicer to my ears than the zerg's succion sounds or the protoss' depressive music (wich I can understand : it kinda of hurts to lose your planete while you're busy hunting down your next hero).
Anyway, all of those musics are always a nice way to have some nice childhood memories.

1999 year. My mom was young and alive, i was 15 y.o. StarCraft was and still is the best RTS for me. With most atmospheric OST. I got tears at 08:24, 10:04, 43:50... That time Blizzard made a masterpiece.
Back when Blizzard Entertainment was legendary.
Miss those good old times.
They captured the three factions so well in the music. Terran is pure military badass with a kind of air of discovery; Protoss is the brooding majesty of infinite, incomprehensible space; zerg is synth creepiness, conjures the image of infestation and chitinous, writhing monstrosities

Edit: after listening to it all again... Protoss and Zerg are sooooo underrated (by me at least). While gaming you never hear all that ambiance (YES EXECUTOR!!!! STATE YOUR WILL, or zerg with MRRRGUUAAGGH HZZZGFEUGN, etc is what dominates, volume-wise). Some spacy shit they made. Very interesting music🤔 (but yeah less catchy than terran ones).
I also love how these themes changed over time. For instance, In I, Terrans are depicted as conquerors, while in II, they come across more as survivors. And it's all through the musical choices.

The gritty nature of the engine and everything just fit
SC 1 contains even some kind of horror atmosphere, because most locations and graphics overall was dark.

I always considered Zerg's music as monotonous and my least favorite but in retrospect, it really is fitting; they only exist to consume and kill. Definitely up there with Terran and Protoss. 👍
Yeah I didn't realized how much I liked the zerg music until I started playing SC2. I mean I also love SC2 to bits, but its zerg ost just doesn't hold a candle to brood war's

If you listen to Zerg One carefully. It's sort of a build up to an event. At around 41:00 you hear the moments before the event. At 41:30 the music has reduced and you distinctly hear breathing - ragged breathing. Something is born! The breathing slows down, the music rebuilds post event. Finally towards the end you hear what sounds like stronger, aggressive breathing. I like to think this event is Kerrigan reborn. Next to Terran One it is my favorite music.
This music is thoroughly soaked in "You Can Do It!" spirit.
Oh god, that Terran music, that brings back memories.
In Starcraft you never willingly chose a race, this decision was made before you ever took your first breath, opened your eyes the first time or had the slightest idea about something like a computer, your destiny as Terran, Protoss or Zerg was pre-determined in the moment of procreation...

I love them, but they died with Starcraft II. Terran in SCII are completely different, so now im bouncing between protoss and zerg there. It's a choice in SCII.
But in Starcraft 1, I was always Terran, and always will remember and love the feelings I got from playing that game as a kid. :)

Wonderful quote, and it has some eerie proverbial parallels too about the way Blizzard, and their relation with their customers would become.
The Aria and Dearest Helena are really poignant. Without a doubt. A piece of hope, hopelessness, honour, sacrifice and betrayal. Someone might receive all these emotions from this piece without knowing the scene. Music like this provided this computer game to its glory.
Simply, at least in the top 3 of best strategy games of all time. 1990-2000 was the golden era of video games and strategy games. We'll never see the same.
I wasn't personally a huge fan of playing Terran over the others but I always found myself playing them anyway all the time just for the music. Pure GOLD!

I'm right there with ya. Starcraft custom maps were my life between the ages of 7 and 13. I can't even imagine how many hundreds of hours I spent playing them. I don't know why SC2 never grabbed me in that same way, but I can't say that I've ever had more fun playing a video game than I did playing SC Brood War custom maps.

After almost 20 years I still remember Terran One.
Damn the OST was PERFECT for StarCraft. Nothing else fits the dark, gritty, technological, foreign, desolate, and alien feel of the world old SC had. That title theme and Terran One are especially amazing. Brings back such strong nostalgia, I'm so sad those days are gone.
SC2 really had a different feel that I just did not like nearly as much. It felt more like WOW...lost the grimdark grit. Considering it was directly inspired by WH40K, it seems odd to go in such a wildly different direction.
The story suffered as well.
Terran Two ending sends chills down my spine everytime.
Yeah. There's a bit of warcraft in there.
And terran 3 is the best
Not even Blizzard themselves can surpass the soundtrack of their classic titles, kind of ironic.

Sad that it never got a proper Russian translation. I got a Svit Igor port of it, which is a dodgy early version with no serial number, a glitch with some of the sound effects and no Russian voice dubbing (they left those parts silent rather than leave the English in, too).

One of the greatest soundtracks of all time. I must have bought this game 6 or 7 different times because I love it so much. My late uncle introduced me to this game as a kid, and I’ve been coming back to play it ever since. Masterpiece.

Listening to this 10 years after with good headphones, I completely rediscovered the whole soundtrack, and what a f*cking amazing soundtrack !
Yeah... and recreating them in SC 2, makes it good. But listening to some old music can sometimes be better than the new.
They did not remake the Terran in SC 2? There is A LOT that changed with them, as well as the Zerg and Protoss. But I can see the top comment is about the music. So I am guessing the music never changed with the Terran. But more of, enhanced.

This ost is an overdose of nostalgia, the reason I started to love space and sci-fi. Hell of a soundtrack!
I use this to rise my motivation and performance in my job. Works flawlessly.

Jeez, I dont what made me think of this but I got so much nostalgia listening to this. I remember when this first came out and I went to my local Electronic Boutique at the mall and asked the person working what was a good computer game to own at the time and he recommended this. So much fun playing this at home and the music still sticks in my brain after all these years.
What a trip down the memory lane! My SAT score is 100 points lower because of it, but I have no regret

It IS Russian. Both Bulgarian and Russian share the same writing system which is Cyrillic which consits both of Latin and Greek alphabets.
That is not entirely true. There are some minor differences between russian and bulgarian cyrillic script.

This game was epic in so many ways. I spent hrs and hrs on this game, over and over again. This game was so addicting. I find myself trying to get my old computer running again so I can play it.

When I was a kid, terran theme turned me on every time. But, when I've grow up and expanded my musical scope, I've found other two major themes great as well. Simple idea - these three are suppose to be very different is very well worked out.
Protoss One...my god, for some reason, resonates with me the most. Such a perfect soundtrack.

Bloody amazing and super nostalgic. I'm always amazed at the quality of these older tracks, especially when compared to most modern stuff.
I feel most old video game soundtracks convey so much more atmosphere and emotion and were really written and composed rather than doing the generic "orchestral epic" theme
