2 things in this run actually. The first one (Chapter 10) actually moves the turn counter forward by one, and due to the game forcing you to watch the reinforcements appearing, as well as somewhat long enemy phases, it's actually fast, as you basically skip half the chapter. The next one is the Alexa glitch, where if you load a battlesave, as long as Alexa doesn't move, she keeps the attack boost she gets and it's calculated based on the distance where she started at. While not really needed for Varic, this saves a ton of time against the Henry and Empyrean fights, as you're outdamaging Henry's priests, and nuking absolutely Empyrean, bosses that'd otherwise take a notably more time. It's also faster than anyone else for the most part, mainly because around this time, the other most viable Speedrun units (Bianca, Samara, and Faust) will sometimes struggle to ORKO things, and has lacking damage against other the big 3 bosses, whereas Alexa, while being around for only 2, saves a ton of time.
Also most of the Dragon Knight strategy actually came from a YTuber known as Fate Riddle, who used a Dragoon > DK Fenton with Zeltairs Flight pivot, who out damages Bianca (Hilariously, that's also how I found out that you can end a unit's turn with the spacebar 🤣) It was just around the time where I found out about the Alexa glitch, and Fenton (at least on Hero and Deity) actually can have some notable accuracy issues which can screw you over and doesn't have such a crazy glitch. Not only that, but I found that Arrogance is the perfect time to train and promote Alexa, due to the right side only having Archers and Akemenos who attacks at range, and you'll have a fresh dodge stat ready to go. With the recent Samara route, I don't think dodge will be as important as it is for Bianca.
