Good video... I would use the AC system myself with a rectifier to charge the battery. Ive had the best luck with GY6 and rectified AC/DC setups. Good video

Excellent content... and even better kits!!! 👍
I've been tinkering with the Lifan, Zongshen, and Shineray 200cc and 250cc vertical clones for a few years now.
I've done engine swaps on both of my 1972 Honda CB100s with these engines. I absolutely LOVE THEM!!! The 172FMM is a BEAST!! 😂
Unfortunately, both of my vertical clones have "wet" 8 pole AC stators. They also have very odd sized center hubs and bolt spacing. Mine also mount to the stator COVER... not to the case. I've looked everywhere for 11 and 18 pole stators that have the same hub and bolt spacing, but i can't find them.
I guess my only option to convert to DC ignition is by deleting the exciter coil circuit in my AC system. I dont have any issues with charging or dim lighting with my existing 8 pole, so it would probably work fine... RIGHT??
I REALLY like the idea of your digital DC CDI.
Verrrry nice, indeed! Have a great day. 👍

I like your video. Unfortunately the DC will not work without a battery. The exciter coil is there for a reason. Many dirtbikes dont use batteries. My CT70 clone engine doesnt use a battery so the DC unit will not work.

This video was specifically for the GY6 engine. The kit is used for GY6 only. But yes you are correct. Ac has to be used on the dinosaur bikes with the dinosaur technology. This was the point I was trying to make. Battery equipment GY6 engines are still using AC systems. They should be updated to a newer and better technology.

Slightly off base question , what's the difference between a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke magneto - if any ? Also does the rotor have to match the coils , (is there a different amount of magnets for the different amount of coils ? )

I put up a video on my channel. I tried doing the research online and on TH-cam.
I know I have an AC stater. There are four brushes so three of them are four making energy for the battery to recharge through the AC/DC rectifier. The other coil I guess you would call it. The exciter coil would make or send electricity up to a CDI box. The CDI would enhance that to provide a spark.
Currently, I have no spark. I was trying to solve whether it was the CDI box or if it was within the AC stater.
The issue that I'm having is that I see all these videos within an AC stater that states that the exciter coil would provide energy to a CDI and then they would be a magnet on the flywheel that would activate a "trigger "for the CDI to fire.
However, my unit was working for six years and it started twice the other day. I turned it off and when I went to restart it within the next two minutes, it would not start. No spark.
My main issue that I'm not understanding is I do not have any type of pick up coil or trigger coil for the CDI to know when to fire. So my ultimate question is.
How does the CDI know when to fire/discharge the energy it has stored ?
Additionally, I will note that my charging wires have continuity to ground, and according to the schematic, all of them should go to ground. It would appear to me that energy is provided to the CDI box and then at some point, it should be pulled to ground to signal it to discharge.
Again, I understand the concepts that I'm learning, but I don't understand how this CDI box would know when to fire ?
My video showing the stater and the wiring diagram is here

Thanks for the content...It's only worth doing if building a new bike.If you already have a/c to change d/c and do it properly. It's a fair amount of work and time.Along with having to buy tools(basically only used once)and components(didn't actually need) to switch out the good ones for a different set of good components.d/c cost more and if the coil or cdi fails you have to buy both.a/c cheaper and components aren't conjoined twins. Is it that great of a system to do all of that?Only to the ones that are trying to sale them.

Actually that’s false. You can completely remove the battery and kickstart the engine with both ac and dc systems. As you kick over the bike the stator pumps voltage into the cdi which has a capacitor to store enough energy to start the bike and keep it running. As long as you have a good charging system no battery is required.

as a person new to GY6 parts due to my motorcycle being discontinued and most parts are gy6.
is AC and DC similar to the term half wave and full wave?
because when i got my bike(used) my mechanic fixed the Regulator then i noticed that my batteries always dies after a few months. put a volt meter to it then it showed it outputed 16-17V
went to a different mechanic. he stated that my stator was halfwave. he edited it to make it into full wave.
volt meter now never passes 15V and i have not yet experienced my battery dying.

It’s probably a black wire with a red strip. I imagine drow uses a basic dc cdi box rather than a dc cdi coil. That would mean everything is the same as an ac set up, but with a dc cdi. So 12v power goes to the cdi rather than ac power
