Really? I thought it looked amazing with that yellow lining in the grill, perhaps the yellow on the roof and mirrors are a bit much, but it's a classic look.
I too agree that Astons, especially the newest ones, look so much/way too much the same. With the current generation of cars, even being a car nut that can spot subtle difference with other cars, they look so much the same that to be sure, I have to have a look at the badge if I see one in a parking lot to see if it's a Virage or a Vanquish. My youngest son, who got me into cars in the first place and taught me most of what I initially knew about cars and performance driving, made a road trip of it back in 2012 from downtown San Diego, California where he lives to Austin, Texas to watch his first Formula 1 race in person at the inaugural F1 race at the Circuit of the Americas. He saw one of the newer Astons in the parking lot and even he had to look at the badge to see it was a Virage. He and I both agree, in the case of the Vanquish, the previous gen car was by far a better machine. Yes it has it's gearbox issues and such, but exterior-wise, especially in black, it is the real deal. Wild fender flares, great design all-around...that car is something special. The Vanquish name was so appropriate for that car. It looks, well, monstrous. It has that stance and shape where, it were a person, it would be someone you would not want to mess with. It's muscular shape due to the fender flares and such made it a very imposing V-12 GT car. But the Vanquish of today, almost the complete opposite. No more imposing than a Virage. It just has minor design differences (carbon bits here and there and different sills) when compared to the latest Astons like the Virage. The Vanquish no longer has that presence of a beast like it used to. Sure it had it's quirks, but the previous gen car was a V-12 GT with the presence of a monster, that would "Vanquish" anyone who tried to mess with it (yes, there were quicker cars, but none with it's presence). When the newest Astons came out with their all new styling, I was expecting something totally unique when it came to the Vanquish. Something with the same imposing feel to it, at least exterior-wise. Something with huge fender flares like the old one and the same overall monstrous feeling of the older one. But no. It came out looking like all the other newest Astons like the Virage, to the point where unless you are a total Aston nut, you have to look at the badge to see it's a Vanquish. Just sad. Aston Martin is a car maker I've always admired, from their road cars to their GT racers, but it's just sad how they almost completely missed the mark. Yes the newest cars are pretty GTs, but that "Beauty, Passion, Soul" just isn't there anymore. Sad.
The N430 feels more relevant and desirable today than it did 9 years ago. I’m seriously thinking of one. If you search Autotrader for anything manual with 400bhp and low ish mileage, not a lot comes up. R8s, M2s, a pair of M3s, overpriced Porsche Spyders, GT4s and GT3s, a VXR8, a Corvette, a few Mustangs and a couple of Aston N models.
It is drop dead gorgeous and lovable. Like all Astons, they have soul. An Audi R8 doesn't. Proper hairy chested motoring for blokes who don't moisterise and listen to Black Eyed Pees. FIN.
It's why I would see a V6 Baby Aston.... :/.. Keep it simple and I don't care that it's not the fastest car here. It's already Georgeous, outdated ? Don't care beautiful with a lot of sensation... but now it's to expensive for me with a V8 (fuel and price when it's new :P). I continue to dream for a Baby Aston with a V6... and a new platform.
familiar to you, but for a first time buyer into this segment would you buy this? and is it worth ponying up the extra cheddar than a second hand 4.7 vantage?
Given that a 991 Carrera S starts from £84k and this Aston has similar performance to that car, is the the price of £90k for the Aston really that big of an issue?
And considering you can very, very easily put £6k worth of options into the 911 as well without even thinking about it really shouldn't have anybody worried about the Aston's price. Think people look at the head line stats much too often nowadays, only searching for 0-60 times (as Steve mentioned) & as a result write off cars that aren't under the 3.1 second mark or whatever they justify as 'nippy' in their mind. I wouldn't be surprised if the Aston was much quicker than the suggested 4.8 seconds either. Look at how quick the E92 M3, E60 M5, C63, new Panamera Turbo, RS7 etc actually are, the list can go on almost forever. The M3 had less torque and a bit less power, weighed about the same & was in the low 4 second range.. Food for thought.
No idea on the quality issue people say. Had a V8V for 4 years put 37km on it. No issues. V12V for 3.5 years and nothing wrong in 26km. And I do give it the beans taking the V12 quite often up to 310kph over here in Autobahn land. I could get a 911T etc etc.. but I have no interest in a VW. If you look at Porsche, all their cars are evolved on a 911. They tried with 928 but joe public did not like them. Yes, other cars are faster than my V12V.... but I do not see people driving them hard around mountain bends. And.... everyone walks past a 911T without a second glance. Turn up in a suit in my V12... says a lot. If they made the V12Vs in manual would think about it as that sound... oh the sound.
Nice car and review !!! I hope you can opt for it without the naff racing and silly lairy yellow paint accents on the test car ?? !! You can get it with the auto too apparently, so not that focused the !!! Why is it only $99k in the US and yet £90k in the UK ?? !!
If I had that much money to spend on a car (which I don't), that would be the car to buy. It's beautiful, it's old school and most important- it is the least reasonable choice. And noone buys sports cars out of good reasoning :D
He is soo weird at times. Constantly raving on about how great flappy pedals are and that he only wants flappy pedals. And now all of a sudden. He likes manuals!!
if any other car manufacturer would come with a car like this, it would be outdated, expensive and pointless, if the British do one, is something special...
I couldn't watch past a few seconds because I was worried about losing my breakfast. What idiot thought it was a good idea to paint an Aston like Barbies handbag?
The grill reminds me of a child, who drinks choclate milk and has a mustache on it's lip/mouth.. I don't like it. (The Grill) I do like Chocolate milk..
I hate how he keeps saying that they're not making cars like that anymore. The brand new corvette matches that car technically almost spec for spec except it has more power and 1 more gear in its manual transmission. It's just as visceral and engaging and a ton faster for half the price.
Lets mismatch the paint and call it something new!!!!!!!!!! I don't see the point of this Aston really. If I ever hear Jeremy Clarkson talk about corvettes again I'd drive this through his front door.
innovations? progression of technology? aw hell no! but seriously, for that money you could buy so many alternatives which are, imo, better on track and street than this dinosaur, like alfa romeo, gt-r, porsche, evo, bmw...
i don't care, because just look at it!!!!! the e92 is better, faster, cheaper, more practical, more comfortable, more refined, more economical, more reliable, more modern, better in every single objective way, but in the end, it's not an aston! the vantage is to me the most beautiful car ever built and is only topped by a siggi braun little crow guitar as the most beautiful inanimate object.
No manual on F-type R. And, arguably, the front end is just as ugly. There's this thing with manufacturers, they all seem put a great ass on their cars but can't manage the front end well.
Marvelous! What a concept: a car for people who want to operate the controls and feed the torque to the wheels themselves instead of relying on a servo-mechanism to save a few seconds. I suppose I could hire someone to undress my girlfriend for me. Save me the trouble, right? That would shave off a few seconds from the naught to sixty wouldn't it? Actually, I'd rather do it myself.
Instead of cocking about with a million stupid V12 Vantage models, they should be bringing us a proper baby V6 aston, a One77 successor and possibly a V10 Aston.
To be honest, I've clicked on "I dislike" not because of the report, but because of the car. Is this really "just" another V8 Vantage in warm attire? It's time to move the game on. Every body else has... Besides it still being a pretty car to look at (minus the hideous paint job though), but that's it. There must be more to a car ... worth nearly 90.000,-£.
Final edition V8 Vantage maybe? It might be fun to drive and all that, but lets face it. The V8 Vantage is very outdated now, and the replacement can not come soon enough, if Aston is going to survive. Aston is losing money now, while all their competitors are registering record sales. And the very obvious reason is, there has not been a completely new model or engine for almost 10 years. And meanwhile unsurpricingly the competition has stormed ahead and left Aston looking just very overpriced for, what you actually get.
How do Aston manage to get such little performance from high powered engines? Granted they are GT cars but I'm pretty sure 450+ hp could move a motorized shed with some trailer wheels on the bottom to sixty in at least 4.5 I completely understand that this car isn't about acceleration but really how the hell do they make the damn thing so slow? Especially when theres a 190 MPH claimed top speed. Is the transmission shit?
The engines are outdated, in fact a lot of things are getting quite old now in the Astons, still great big engines but as the video also states, don´t mention CO2 emissions and fuel economy. Newer developed engines might miss some character but they put out more power and less of the bad stuff. Will be very interesting to see what AMG will make for the coming Aston Martin engines.
HesteBremse Yeah with all of Aston's outdated bits, it'll be nice to see what kind of refresh they get, and I'd love to see something as elegant as the Astons being competitive performance wise.
Well, I know, I know...Aston are beautiful blah blah. Thats what everyone is going to say. IDC. The design is old. It makes me think they can't do anything else because ALL of their cars look exactly the same. There is really no new engineering. They still use all the same old engines that are dreadfully outclassed. There are now production V8s that make more power than Astons V12. The "handcrafted" interior really just means things will soon start falling off and the stitching will be awful. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't making that much money. The sad part is, Porsche (well with the 911) and Aston almost do the same exact thing, but Porsche is doing it sooo right, and Aston Martin is doing it soooo wrong.
You pretty much hit the nail dead on with what you said; they've been playing it safe for far too long now and all the models are really getting old and boring as well as too similar (DBS and Virage, I'm looking at both of you!). The DB9 and V8 Vantage have been around for 11 and 9 years respectively, and since then, so much new stuff like Jaguar's F-Type, Bentley's newer Continental GT, Audi's R8 (and the upcoming replacement), Porsche's 911 range, Mercedes-Benz's SLS AMG (and their new upcoming AMG GT) and so on have all been or are about to be replaced with newer models. And from that evidence, Aston has practically stood still, despite the small updates they made to their models over time; I do love Astons still, but they definitely need to move on now, do something new and replace these models.
Adrian Lee Yep, I love Astons too, but they really need to step into the present or they may not exist for much longer. They no longer have the engine problem because for the next models AMG will apparently be making the engines, but they definitely need to solve this non-creativeness with their design. It was just really disappointing when even their hyper car (One-77) basically just looked like a vantage with a widebody kit, although a beautiful widebody kit. and not to mention, quality control with the interiors and the overall interior design needs a drastic update.
Hmm yeah definitely; Aston Martin is pretty much a small independent operation that will struggle to survive on their own with their small and aged model range, unlike those I mentioned which are either very big like Audi and Merc with their very wide range of models or are under a umbrella ownership like Bentley is. That AMG joint venture will be interesting and a very good leg up for them to replace their old and dated engines with lighter and more powerful ones. Very true, they've basically been under the one-trick-pony syndrome with their designs, it pains me to say; they made one design with the DB9 and just recycled it repeatedly for the rest of their models with slight adjustments, and even the newer Vanquish seemed to borrow some elements from the One-77 and the DB9. The One-77 is a bit subjective; looks great, but not sure of the headlights and the air scoops just below them. The interior I agree definitely needs a refresh; it looks severely dated and aged next to the 911's.
Adrian Lee they do have the DP-100 VGT they can make to change their design language "There is really no new engineering" the one-77 presented some new engineering: using the structure of the car to feed air into the engine :)
bucketslash11 Hmm, I like that besides the front which looks too lazy and similar to the Ford GT90, but it can't really be counted as it's just a concept for Gran Turismo only. And even though it's been built, it'll be in extremely limited numbers like the magnificent GTbyCitroen which only had 6 built and cost $2.1 million each.
most overrated car in history? just my opinion but the design is always the same and this one is not good looking. DBS is the only aston martin that really looks great..
That paint job is totally tasteless. What I expect from a 90's rover MG but not an Aston Martin. For crying out loud just design a 'new' car already!!!
feel is more important than numbers
Got home from work. Popped a beer. TH-cam subscription list --> autocar. Can't get better
could not having to work
I remember when we called cars like the E39 M5 'old school'.
Not sure if sad or not but i adore this aston
flappy paddle on aston martin are actually slower than the manual, this guy is a auto lover
I'm pretty sure what this guy is talking about is not the automatic transmission for Vanquish's and DB9's but the automated manual for V12 Vantage S.
This green color is awesome though the yellow details destroyed the car
Really? I thought it looked amazing with that yellow lining in the grill, perhaps the yellow on the roof and mirrors are a bit much, but it's a classic look.
It's based on Aston's old racing colors, so it's a heritage color.
I too agree that Astons, especially the newest ones, look so much/way too much the same. My money will only go to manual non turbo cars, no matter what politicians say. Keep making normally aspirated manual cars please Aston
What a wonderful bit of road.
thats at chobham test track, where they used to make the challenger tanks.
Please Aston, keep making hand shift cars... I love my v8 vantage with it. And I want it agian, a new v8 vantage, hand shift goodnes...

Good times ahead with a new AMG V8's powering Aston Martin's
Great job here. The sound is excellent.

Eh, Im not sure they could do that unless they rebadged the f-type as an aston and i can't see them doing that
want a British V6 sport car? You can buy a Lotus Exige.
Calde Ailis I don't want a Mid-engine car, I want a Small Aston. :P.
urock12201 It's what I want, and I think Aston don't care :P.
Mee too!
familiar to you, but for a first time buyer into this segment would you buy this? and is it worth ponying up the extra cheddar than a second hand 4.7 vantage?
I can't wait for the 2016 DB9 and what they come up with AMG.
what an amazing car to bad there will not be any more 6 speed manuals thats a shame !
do a review between the new lamborghini huracan vs mclaren mp4-12c
What is the biggest difference between the new N430 and the old N420, 10 horse power?
You are forgetting about the C7 Stingray which we are going have for another 8 years-ish.
Given that a 991 Carrera S starts from £84k and this Aston has similar performance to that car, is the the price of £90k for the Aston really that big of an issue?

music at 3:37? Any one?
will this car drive ok in winter ?
love it, old school, not new school. :)
Can you get it without the stupid chav spec yellow stickers?
-> I have a question. What is the name of the track you tested this beautiful Aston?
Possibly longcross in surrey uk
The only way I'd ever buy one of these is if it had a manual, it's a sports car it's meant to keep you involved in the drive
Nice car and review !!!
I hope you can opt for it without the naff racing and silly lairy yellow paint accents on the test car ?? !!
You can get it with the auto too apparently, so not that focused the !!!
Why is it only $99k in the US and yet £90k in the UK ?? !!
Porsche got me ready with the 911 but, i'll be genuinely sad if Aston gets rid of their manuals too....
Hey Steve, N430 Vantage manual, or V12 Vantage Manual?
I know I'm not Steve but v12 vantage manual
I don't care how sophisticated flappy paddles are, you just CANNOT beat a proper old fashioned manual gearbox.
YES!!! IT'S GOT A STICK!!!
looking forward to the amg motors in the new ones.
I do love this car & they're a second bargain but I wouldn't buy a new one I'd take a F Type Jag with the V8
Manual...
Alright, who let their 13 yr old kid Plastidip the Vantage?
Any ideas on our new vantage model? we've got no money to spare... I know! Yellow bits!
They musta thought "hey, let's take a V8, and make it look crappy". I mean, what were they thinking?
The coolest car I've ever fvcking seen!
While I enjoyed the video, I just have to know, what is the name of that piano song
Very sad it will be one of the last manuals to come from Aston :(
If I had that much money to spend on a car (which I don't), that would be the car to buy.
"It's not that quick" Facepalm
Steve sutcliffe :)
manual gearboxes will exist as long as there will be people to buy them, the future is in your hands :D
if any other car manufacturer would come with a car like this, it would be outdated, expensive and pointless, if the British do one, is something special...
(The Grill) I do like Chocolate milk..
i think Aston Martin v8 motors sound better than any other European v8. But it only makes 430hp from a 4.7 litre that is kinda disappointing.
q rico carro juntos con el tesla son locasos
Gorgeus!!!
I hate how he keeps saying that they're not making cars like that anymore. The brand new corvette matches that car technically almost spec for spec except it has more power and 1 more gear in its manual transmission. It's just as visceral and engaging and a ton faster for half the price.
you guys should find a new road lol, seen this road in all of your videos.
nice video though
Lets mismatch the paint and call it something new!!!!!!!!!! I don't see the point of this Aston really. If I ever hear Jeremy Clarkson talk about corvettes again I'd drive this through his front door.
D3 alpina
UK guy loving a UK made car...hmmm...
innovations? progression of technology? aw hell no! but seriously, for that money you could buy so many alternatives which are, imo, better on track and street than this dinosaur, like alfa romeo, gt-r, porsche, evo, bmw...
BMW M3 E92 is better than this :)
Surprisingly, that's a decent comparison.
Definitely. Owning an Aston was a disappointment, average driving dynamics
Ya, but there is something about a Aston Matin that BMW does not have... But Im a BMW guy at the end
i don't care, because just look at it!!!!! the e92 is better, faster, cheaper, more practical, more comfortable, more refined, more economical, more reliable, more modern, better in every single objective way, but in the end, it's not an aston! the vantage is to me the most beautiful car ever built and is only topped by a siggi braun little crow guitar as the most beautiful inanimate object.
+grey71644 Disagree
i just cant see why someone would buy this over a F-type R which is faster and (to my eyes) better looking
Yup no contest for me either.
No manual on F-type R. And, arguably, the front end is just as ugly. There's this thing with manufacturers, they all seem put a great ass on their cars but can't manage the front end well.
well, in my eyes the vantage is better looking. that's the reason.
Manual ftw.
i hear a lot of excuse for aston martin in this video
its all about the hondas. come on people. (prepare for the hate replies)

urock12201 Motor Trend got a 4.1 0-60 in the 420 bhp Vantage and Car and Driver 4.2. So in capable hands it's a 4 flat car.
The paint job alone is to die for
458 is even better
If your sticking with Britain, the F-type is a better car.
startying to not take you seriously. you love this car but hate the sound of the new m engines. what
Color scheme aside, it's slow (relatively) and slightly overpriced. I must say this car is beautiful though.

Adrian Lee they do have the DP-100 VGT they can make to change their design language
"There is really no new engineering"
the one-77 presented some new engineering: using the structure of the car to feed air into the engine :)
bucketslash11 Hmm, I like that besides the front which looks too lazy and similar to the Ford GT90, but it can't really be counted as it's just a concept for Gran Turismo only. And even though it's been built, it'll be in extremely limited numbers like the magnificent GTbyCitroen which only had 6 built and cost $2.1 million each.
Aston Martins are just too heavy!
Waaay too overpriced. I like it's simplicity but not the price.
Aston Martin still flogging the dead horse...
I don't like it. Old hat 👎
I don't like your old hat either.
most overrated car in history? just my opinion but the design is always the same and this one is not good looking. DBS is the only aston martin that really looks great..
For alllll that money this performance is terrible im sorry
it just looks so dated now. it also not that fast. Id save my money buy and M4 and spend the rest on cocaine and prostitutes
Steve, you need to stop sucking through your teeth when you breathe on the voiceovers. Really grating on decent speakers.
That paint job is totally tasteless. What I expect from a 90's rover MG but not an Aston Martin. For crying out loud just design a 'new' car already!!!
awful color
Please Aston, keep making hand shift cars... I love my v8 vantage with it. And I want it agian, a new v8 vantage, hand shift goodnes...
I can't wait for the 2016 DB9 and what they come up with AMG.
