I rescued (stole) a neglected dog from a backyard with the intention of finding her a home. After weeks of her hiding behind my couch, I came home from work one day and while greeting my other dog I heard an unfamiliar squeal. She was running around me happy to have me home. I knew I could not put her through any more stress. She was mine at that moment and the best dog I ever had. I never put her on a leash because she never left my side.

Beautiful, that you respected her during her transition to a better world, I rescued a cat and it her months to trust me, and one good day, I entered the room where she was with my other cats, instead of running to hide from me, she came straight to me and started to bump her head against my legs and allowed me to Pat her. Who knows what she went through before I brought her home...

@@margaritaabaracon9801 I rescued a Cat. Actually I got a call from my buddy who is a police officer asking me if I could come to the station and get a cat. When I got there some lady was in cuffs yelling at the cat (now my cat of 8 years!). She was blaming her (now my) cat for being the reason she was arrested. In reality, she had crashed her car into the side of her own house. Anyway, I had no idea what I was in for. She (Kitty) hid for almost 6 months. I never did anything other than talk nicely to her and just recognize her trauma and leave her be. One day, she randomly came over to me, laid down on my lap and fell into the deepest sleep. To this day have ever seen an animal go into a sleep like that. She slept for almost 24 hours. Ever since she has been all over me.
Many people do not understand the bonds that can be forged with traumatized animals. Many also do not understand how trauma can affect animals just as much as humans. That is why I always rescue. I do n't judge other preferences. But i always rescue.

721deco hahaha 😂😄 Your my HERO , yes I so believe this is what MUST happen with animals that are abused and or exploited because the law is screwed up and immoral . I would do this in a heart beat too given the opportunity because I know someone who did everything the law demands and they had to give up a beautiful natured dog ( who was worth to the idiots that buy souls like this , a small fortune ) whom was lost ?
They were simple enough to describe the dog on face book foolishly and some one came forward CLAIMING they were their property .
So I would NEVER give someone up that had been neglected in this way . I would how ever put up an ad on face book asking if anyone has lost a dog family member and to describe them in detail and where they were lost . This way you don’t get any retarded morons coming forward to exploit a vulnerable being . Well done , proud of you 😄👏🏼💜💜💜🐾👣

I have fostered many and it is SO hard to give them up when a new family wants to adopt. But I know that I did a good thing and when one goes to their forever home I have room to take in another that needs help. I have seen a few of my fosters years after they went to their forever homes and they remembered me. Animals do not forget kindness and love. If you have the resources to foster, I encourage you to do it. So many are in shelters that have to euthanize due to lack of space. Foster homes save lives.

@@nate2611 That's true to a certain extent, I agree. I will always give people a second chance. But ONLY once. Fortunately, most humans don't have to experience the astonishing level of cruelty that people inflict on animals as they are prevented from doing so by law. Cruelty towards animals (including those intended for food) do not have the same level of protection. We adopted an ex racing Greyhound who had been so badly treated that he had physical and emotional damage that took it's toll on his life expectancy. BUT, he let us love him and give him 7 years of comfort and care. We felt privileged beyond belief that he gave US a second chance as human beings.

I've been doing dog rescue for over 21 years now, I'm still amazed how some of these babies that went through pure hell come out of their shell and start a new life. And of course we always have ones that never learn to trust again.
One Saturday morning I was loading my pickup truck up with dog crates to go hit the shelters on the other side of the bay. During the week there adoption coordinator would call me and tell me which German Shepherds they had received and which ones are running out of time. This particular Saturday was busier than most. After hitting my first shelter heading to the second one I had already picked up five German Shepherds of all ages. When I got to the second one the girls knew who I was there for but begged me to look at a German Shepherd mix that they have. They explained to me he was found Roman their neighborhoods and that he is very scared of everything. Since that time of the morning the shelter is not open the girls brought him out to the office where I was signing paperwork. Right away he ran and head under a desk. I was down there with him for about 15 minutes trying to make sure he wasn't vicious. That's when I just realized he was just abused very badly and scared. That's when I noticed one of his back legs was sticking out from the other three. I made the decision to take him with me and that he was not going to ride in a crate I would put him in the front with me. The whole time back he laid on the floor just shaking. I don't even believe I had the radio on that morning I was talking to him the whole time. As I was dropping off all the babies I picked up that morning I decided to take him straight to the vet office. I had to carry him into the office carry him to the examining room. The doctors looked at his leg and said they would take x-rays and that they will schedule him right away to be neutered. Normally if I drop off on a Saturday or Sunday because of my work schedule I normally don't pick anyone back up until the following weekend. With Charlie Bear I made the decision to go right after work when he was ready to be picked up. When I got there the doctor explained to me what happened to his leg. He was still fairly young in age but when he was even younger his leg was broken and nobody bothered to take him for medical care and that's how his leg healed. When he saw me he did not act like he even met me before which I was fine with. once again picked him up carried him to my truck and we went home. Once I pulled into the driveway and closed the gates and opened up my door I told him it's time for you to use your own legs. He still wouldn't move so I let my babies out. Immediately my other shepherds realized there was something in the pickup truck. My baby girl jumped up there in the truck and started barking at him and what you call puppy jumping at the same time and that got him excited and when she jumped out he followed.
I have had some very tough cases before normally within a week or two I could have my foster ready for adoption. Charlie Bear was different he was still scared to death of things even after months of living with me. After 6 months I realized that he could not be adopted out or more like he shouldn't be adopted back out. The little bit of progress that he made at my house would have been for nothing if I was to take him to someone else and drop him off. He eventually gained more confidence his leg that was injured when he was a baby really did not slow him down and the decision to do surgery was left to me and I decided if it's not broke don't fix it he was used to it and it did not stop him from running and jumping. After about 3 years he finally started holding his ears up like a German Shepherd it didn't stay up all the time but he was doing it more and more as he was feeling more secure.
Charlie Bear outlived all of my other babies after 17 years with me he crossed over to the rainbow bridge to be with his brothers and sisters waiting for the day I come to get them one more time.
If you do rescue long enough you will always find your Charlie Bear and you will know what he or she needs to get back to normal or at least feel safe with you.

I remember when we rescued a female doberman from a man that would beat her with a 2x4. She was so afraid of men because of that. This beautiful doberman would sit on the couch all day and all night and shake. For her to go outside or to even eat, my father and I could not be in the room. I remember sitting on the couch watching TV and the whole thing would shake for 20 minutes until her body was just too tired to continue to shake. This went on for months and slowly, the shaking would stop sooner until she would no longer shake when I just sat on the couch. But in all that time, I never reached out to touch her because she would shy away and start to tremble even harder the closer my hand got to her. Instead of reaching out to her, I would put my hand on the cushion next to me and just leave it there, always acknowledging that she was there, but never putting her into a position where she had reason to fear me. Finally, after a few months, while watching TV next to her, I felt her push her nose against my hand. GREATEST DOG DAY EVER!!!! After that, it only took about a week before she would consistently move closer to me when I sat down next to her and then I could pet her and stroke her ears and have her fall asleep with her head in my lap. She so wanted to be close to someone, even after being beaten for so long. Great job with gaining that little guys trust.

Rocky Kanaka - he's a dog chef. Owns a bakery for dogs and cats and rehomes them from the store (through a proper agency. He's 100% legit) as well as fostering really hard cases himself with his wife's help. He's got his own channel; Homer's whole story is on it if you want updates. He's worth following for the joy he brings to volunteers & organisations as well as individual animals.
