    Great video! Gets me thinking about speed work again. I will mix in some speed/tempo efforts during my runs if I'm feeling good (maybe once a week) but I'm sure I could be more strategic in my speedplay efforts. Thanks for inspiring us Ben!

    Firstly, great Chanel 👌
    I have only recently taken up running having turned 50 , came across your Chanel , been a great watch . I have just done my 3 rd park run and just dipped under the magic 20 min barrier. Your Chanel has been a great motivator, keep up the great work 👍

    Awesome video! I just did my first interval session since I picked up running about 2 months ago. Aimed for 5x1k at about 4:40 pace, but overdid the first two at 4:15 for both, so changed the workout to 2x1k, 2x400, 2x200. Shame I couldn't stick to the plan, but still felt really good to do a different type of run! Love your content, hope you and Mary are both doing well :)

    I love a "fastest last km". Usually they happen accidentally when I just want my long run to end haha. It does delay the cool down though, but it's worth it to feel like you ended the run strong.

    Question for the messhapps,
    I'm 39, 5k pb is 25:58 and 10k pb is 58min.
    Do you think it's possible at my age as a newish runner/jogger and ex rugby prop, to get a 5k under 24min and a 10k nearer 50min than 60min. Would this be possible and an achievable goal to set myself.
    Focus on triathlon so run 3 times a week. Try and swap an interval session with a hill session every other week.
    Thank you

    Nice workout. I'll have to throw this into my routine. So the first 2 are at a marathon pace? I think that's quite a bit jump (at least for me) to go from MP to 10K pace. My MP is very very slow compared to my 10K pace. Or should the first 2 be done at half marathon pace? I love the collaboration.

    Added to my Garmin , so I have four different speed workouts, does not matter if I am 10 -25 years older than you guys, an equal effort done as we all have our own pace that we can achieve for those distances.

    I thought tempo was supposed to be what you can only hold for about 20 min. Tetering on the line where aerobic becomes anaerobic. 50min + I thought was more of an uptempo pace

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Tempo is a little under lactate threshold and you are supposed to be able to hold lactate threshold for around an hour. So tempo could be held for 1:30 even 2 hours maybe even more!

    • @22wakedude
      @22wakedude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThisMessyHappy i dug out my copy of Daniel's running formula. He claims threshold pace can be raced at for elite runners up to 60 min tapered and rested. In practice most runners can keep the pace 30-40min. But in training generally you only want to do about 20min at once or 30min in a session if it's broken up throughout the run.
      Not that it really matters what you call it as long we know how the type of run can fit in practice in a beneficial way.

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@22wakedude yes that’s it. Threshold can mean so many things as there are more than 1 threshold 😂 and I’ve never run tempo in training for more than 30 mins but in theory I could (don’t want to 😂). For me, what doesn’t neatly fit that explanation (and this might just be me) is that I have run at my supposed tempo heart rate for a half marathon before. Above, in fact. For 1:16. So I guess it’s a looser interpretation than the parameters in the book that I’m going with but as you say, it’s whatever you know it as 😊
