    Now that you're 2 years into it, how has it stood up? Any peeling or checking? I'm in the middle of power washing and sanding now - trying to figure out what product to cover it with.

      Sorry for delay. It’s still holding up. Being right off the pool I was unsure how it was going to do. There are spots that I failed to properly prep, mostly treated wood that wasn’t dry, that has some peeling. Other people I know that use this product say they use solid stain on top of it every few years to extend its life.

    I was really pleased with the results of the house. I used a combination of a brush and a roller, but it did far more than what the Sherwin-Williams brand that is similar had done two years before. Highly recommend it

      Thank you. I have spoken to some people who will use the solid stain on top of this product after it starts to show some aging. I hope it works out for you.

    Thank you for sharing. We’re currently doing a combination of the Cabot solid stain on our deck floor and the Deck Correct on the rails and it’s looking good so far, just hoping it holds up. Yours turned out great, well done to your lady

    Three years later, I wonder how well it has lasted. Peeled? Flaked off? (Like Rustoleum RockSolid)

      its not perfect, some areas that I thought would need attention are starting to show up. I would absolutely use this again. For this product for me, I knew it was never going to be perfect considering the sun exposure and pool water exposure which is not a great combo. Prepping the deck as much as possible and having dry surface really goes a long way in how long this will last.

    I just switched to Deck Correct. Looks real good. I think the problems with these deck restoring paints is they dry hard and brittle. In Michigan, I get both temperature extremes. I think the temperature expansion is different between the paint and wood deck, so any adhesion gets severed. You gets cracks, water seeps in, any adhesion is gone. I blew some leaves off my deck last fall and the 4 year old Valspar Skid Not paint was blowing off in sheets.
    I tried Valspar oil based porch paint. That seemed to last better. But now you can’t get oil based paint anymore. Hopefully I can get more than 3-4 years out of Deck Correct. I did put down some Rustoleum Deck Start primer first.
    Look for 3-4 year reviews. The paint adhesion goes extinct.

    You need to use a brush on all the seams to get it on the sides of the boards a bit. If you don’t it will peel.

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I went ahead and bought a smaller brush to get in between the cracks better.

    Just got our deck replaced, eill be using this after the nea wood weathers a bit. I hear it's not a good idea to use any products on brand new wood.

    GJ similar products tell you to use their thinner stain to get into spaces between boards then add the restored. But you deck looks good from the video. Thank you.

      @CountryHobbyist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip! We have a pergola that we were going to use the thinner stain on and I will see how it works between the boards. Thanks for watching!

    Does the product fill in and cover over the deck screws? I'm concerned that with it being so thick, and filling in cracks, will I ever be able to fit a bit into the deck screws and unscrew them.

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, probably a little worse than normal stain but close to how solid stain from Cabot would work. This deck used the Camo deck screws, it’s almost impossible to unscrew them without any obstruction!

    One year later - how does it look now?

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has held up even better than I expected with the excessive amount of pool water! Kids being home due to COVID they were in and out all day long all summer long. There is no signs of cracking or bad wear yet, and even the spots that I thought would be questionable are still holding strong. The one thing we did run into was putting down black mulch and the dogs running from through it and jumping on the deck left some black paw prints. I would use this product again but probably do a better job of really getting into the cracks. I think that is going to be the area that starts to give first.

  • @HunterHunter93

    Couldn't you just paint it with paint? Whats the difference?

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think this stuff tends to harden a little more and is thicker to fill in those soft spots and cover those splinters. It also has a grit to it. I assume if you had a paint with a uv block and you put in some type of grit material you could be in about the same boat. Remember this stuff is more of a product for getting a couple more years out of a deck vs replacing it. If your deck is in good shape and has been maintained well, then a solid stain or outdoor paint is likely your best bet.

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it has held up pretty well. there were a couple of places that the wood was still green that it has a little peel around the screw holes. I would/ will use this product again. My favorite part is the texture that it added to the deck around the pool. Thanks for watching!

    Just moved into our house March 30th and want to maybe use this. What is the name of the color you use? Would you recommend using primer or just applying this first? Should I use deck wash? Thanks.

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! This color was brickstone. I think how this product is designed to work without a primer because it is supposed to fill in cracks. Cabot doesnt specifically talk about putting on a primer first. I think deck wash and a good pressure wash goes a long way with this product. I have several comments on this video about the importance of getting the boards as clean as possible before applying this product. Here is a link to gives an overview from Cabot. Also, I am not being compensated from Cabot, I just think this product can prolong replacing decks and thats important with todays lumber prices! www.cabotstain.com/do-it-yourself/exterior/deckcorrect.html?&gclid=Cj0KCQjwna2FBhDPARIsACAEc_XDpYDQm0S2kTnvREA6RslttqdqWPs4Ia3Hv7WYxmR45ChQoYJrIb4aAnN9EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

    I wonder if u sand it down first it will last longer

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sure the cleaner your boards are before you start the longer this will last. I bet new boards that are dry would have great longevity of this product! In my opinion I think a lot of people who have trouble with this product have wet areas in their wood, or have wood that is not prepped well enough.

    The Cabot Deck Correct we bought says tint must be added. It's a greyish white right in the bucket. When we asked the guy at Lowe's what tint to use, he was zero help. What tint did you have mixed in with it?

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      there should be brochures at Lowes for this product. that is where we purchased it from. if you go to the bottom of this link you can see all the colors for the resurfacer product. we used the Brickstone color.

      I agree with you, if I were on city water this would be a lot easier of a decision. cheaper to chemically clear it up rather than have water delivered. well water is full of iron and is miserable to get it right, also almost uses same amount of chemicals to balance that out. I think the best option for me is to just not be a pool owner lol.

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The product did not say to use a primer. I think if I were to do anything prior to using this I would use Cabot solid stain and then put the deck correct over top. I think the Deck Correct is really designed to seal the wood without any primer. Thanks for watching!

    Wonder if you can use over a painted deck?

    • @CountryHobbyist
      @CountryHobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would really suggest trying to prep as well as you can with a pressure washer. I think it would hold up for a few years but there might be some issues with moisture getting between the layers. Several people have commented that it doesn't work unless you really prep the deck. I haven't found t hat to be a problem with ours but we were putting this overtop of stain.
