If I was James Gunn I’d START the DCU with a Nightwing v Deathstroke flick. Just the existence of those two characters establishes a TON of canon that you can just retcon however you want. Would make it way easier to dive back thru the timeline to highlight classic adventures but also to decide the direction of the universe at large. NIGHTWING: Jacob Elordi DEATHSTROKE: Alan Ritchson BRUCE WAYNE: Jensen Ackles Barbara Gordon: Halle Bailey Jim Gordon: Sterling K Brown Harvey Bullock: Ron Perlman
Dick Grayson is my favorite comic book character of all time and imo the single most important supporting character in the Batman mythos. Dick brought the best qualities of Bruce to the surface. He interalized the best aspects of Batman and rejected the worst ones. He pioneered the very idea of the sidekick and the expansion of characters in a superheroes universe. You cant tell the story of comic books without Dick Grayson
THANK YOU my main man deserves his props. In my comic collection he's the character Ive collected the most and just relate to the most. Im sad his newest dc solo project got cancelled but hope they do something better for us nightwing fans. We deserve to see our dude on the big screen and not get screwed by writers who hate him
The problem is that Batman is the detective in Detective Comics. So he is DC's flagship character. So no one can be allowed to outshine him. Because there are lots of fans who care about Batman, and no one else in DC cannon. Allowing anyone to be a better Batman than Batman would make those people mad, at no clear benefit. So DC won't let it happen. But objectively, Dick Grayson is a better leader. Batman cares about people. But he doesn't trust them. Dick Grayson both cares about people and trusts them. So Dick Grayson is the one who most people would want to follow in real life. Or, at least Dick Grayson is the one who I would want to follow in real life. So the content makers feel the need to humble and sideline Dick Grayson constantly. So that Batman doesn't become obsolete. Hence the repeated rape, beatings, and deaths. Its a way of putting him in his place and assuring the Batman fans that Batman is still at the top of the food chain. But, there is an internal problem with Nightwing: No notable villains. A hero needs a villain to be compelling. You could argue Death Stroke, or Trigon as Night Wing's villains. But those are really more villains of The Titans than villains of Night Wing.
That's what an actual lifestyle of child soldiering looks like. Too bad your world view is so shocked by "emsaculation" you can't even handle Live-Action Green Arrow with so much as a Freddie Mercury moustache. He might resolve villains calling him gay with something emasculating, like confident dismissal without even denying it. Instaed of a violent tantrum like is tha masculine way.
I mean I kinda agree I do think a good adaptation on screen that had time to build a connection to the audience could lead to him becoming more relevant in the comics
@@sboinkthelegday3892 No one hear said anything about emasculation, Green Arrow, or Freddie Mercury mustaches. No one called Dick Grayson gay. But as for the Child Soldiering part. Most of this stuff happened to Dick Grayson after he became an adult. Was dick Grayson ever actually a child soldier? I am not sure that he was. So I am not sure that the child soldiering part is relevant.
He was represented the most poorly in Justice League Dark Apokolyps War. I mean he had like a minute of screen time and in that time he died, was brought back to life, went insane and was erased from existence. He was a pretty consistent recurring character and then was thrown away.
... the fact that you missed the fourth time he was graped should show you how bad that problem is in the comics... tbf I think writers keep going to that because of just how bad the mirage thing was and that they want to do it right
Nightwing is my favourite bat family member but my issue with him in titans is that he's way too dark and edgy and really hates and blames batman for everything he went through ,he was supposed to be nice kind and well a sign of hope but in titans dick barely even smiles
tbf Dick Grayson being edgy isn't entirely new from the comics or even the cartoons. Even the Teen Titans series which went full anime/comedy had him broody like in the Titans LA and it's generally agreed as the best depiction of Dick Grayson in animation
Actually the acts a lot like that in New Teen Titans, Tomasi's Nightwing and Outsiders. Most people tend to forget about his anger issues because of Tom Taylor.
That's how he's always been though? When he's in charge of a team, he's very serious. Have you read the New Teen Titans run? Dick has always been extremely competent and serious.
I’m JUST now getting into the DC comics stuff and honestly writers there have a bad habit of misinterpreting characters. Like, it’s good for people to read different writers and how they may view the characters, but I’ll be lying if I said I enjoy how some of them write your favorites. I like it when Nightwing is both caring and also a badass. I don’t like it when they assume he’s careless or overtly brooding. I see him more as the slightly goofy dude who knows how to get serious when the time calls for it, then after the seriousness is said and done he’ll go out for ice cream later
Dick is my favorite superhero/crime fighter. Almost all iterations are fantastic. He’s a worthy leader of the justice league (now renamed Titans) which he is now after Nightwing #100
So I’m about to watch this video so hype btw but I just wanted to give my thoughts as nightwing is my favorite dc hero. Growing up I had never encountered the nightwing episodes of any superhero media I saw (ages 1-7) but I did love robin. When I got a nightwing figure as a birthday present and it had a little blurb about him I was immediately interested cause it was the first robin growing into his own hero. And that gave me a very anxious kid hope that I could grow up into the person I wanna be. Nightwing in many ways is a hero who encapsulates the perfect mixture of dc’s legacy literally fusing their two oldest characters together. Down to his name which is honoring Superman along with his heart. His skillset, lore, aesthetics are mostly a result of the dark knight. And the fact nightwing is a mixture of the two is so perfect considering his own history with supes and Batman in worlds finest. Then there’s just how good some of dicks stories are. (I may not like the man now but) Chuck Dixon’s run is phenomenal followed by some great runs throughout the 2000s, the Grayson run is shockingly good and I will say barring ric which I haven’t read yet I like quite a bit of rebirth even if some of it is weird.
@@thefictionaddiction it was good salient points the take on not wanting dick to have a bulletproof suit was interesting kind of agree at the same time I feel like gun would give him one for stylistic cohesion
He will never be better than Batman, but he can be underrated at times. Kind trusting individuals in the dc universe get punished unless you have powers like superman, and even then he gets his fair share from time to time.
I understand your point but Nightwing is still awesome. With that being said the way he’s been treated in his portrayals is abysmal. With some reason the worst coming with being tied to Harley animated film, show and Arkham Knight DLC.
This is very good however I dont know if you would count the Harley Quinn one as rape as not only did Nightwing consent he tells batman that he wanted to have sex with harley quinn and also proceeds to have a tickle fight after having sex with her, he was also untied from the bed when they had sex as show in a later scene
Nightwing and the red hood are my 2 best besides Batman, plus I wondered why wasn't red hood in any of these shows like apocalypse war, robin vs Batman ects makes me think they don't care about red hood anymore than they do Nightwing
The Harley Quinn DLC made me really hate the Arkham games for a while, I get she was getting help from Ivy and Harley did (beat?) Batman In Tim’s city DLC, had him captured, so he had to go save him from her then he beat her…. But straight up beating Nightwing at this point when he’s supposed to be the best trained fighter and Robin even in this universe… smh.
If I was James Gunn I’d START the DCU with a Nightwing v Deathstroke flick. Just the existence of those two characters establishes a TON of canon that you can just retcon however you want. I thinknit could be that he's too perfect. And also that he dosnt seem to have his own interesting cast of violins. The kind that pop like batman or supper man
I really can’t read his comics anymore. The writing sucks, the modern character is merely a mockery, he’s overly sexualized, and frankly I would argue he has been nerfed. Not to forget how redundant his story arcs/ persona is lately. It’s almost as if Nightwing is nothing more than a cash grab. 😪
Honestly, his combative skill and athletics have been going up since 1996 but his intelligence has been going down to bring up others, things Nightwing would’ve been able to do in NTT when he was the brain even with Cyborg on the team, somehow everyone else is smarter… smh.
He definitely deserves his own movie in the new DCU. He’s the GOAT.
True
Couldn’t agree anymore
As cool as that would be. And coming from a nightwing fan unfortunately that very unlikely

As someone with only a passive interest in Nightwing this video was great. Makes me want to actually take a deep dive with this character

batman's worst aspects are soem of the things make him a facintaing character

Why do I tear up anytime Batman calls one of the robins his son. That Gotham knight audio really hit.

I couldn’t have said it better myself
He needs a nemesis. Like robin in Harley.

NIGHTWING IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THE BATFAMILY AND IN DC AND I HATE HOW DISRESPECTED HE WAS POTRAYED
Dick is my favorite superhero/crime fighter. Almost all iterations are fantastic. He’s a worthy leader of the justice league (now renamed Titans) which he is now after Nightwing #100
they better quit fucking with my boy nightwing, In both ways smh.
I feel like we might see him as Robin in the next Matt Revees movies, I wonder if we will see him as Nightwing though
Margot robbies harley quinn in 2016 with the curls on the hair (this wasnt in the movie, it was released after) is so hot

Batman TAS made me appreciate Nightwing.

The Second Disco isn't my favorite but I like it and the Teen Titans Nightwing adaptation is alot better then the versions we see today.
Nice video 👍
Thanks!
Nightwing is one favourite dc character i
Iike see nightwing cartoon
Or nightwing movie or Web series
I couldn’t just pass the r word
The old “noooo” line.
Nightwing and the red hood are my 2 best besides Batman, plus I wondered why wasn't red hood in any of these shows like apocalypse war, robin vs Batman ects makes me think they don't care about red hood anymore than they do Nightwing
Nightwing is my favorite male DC character.
HE WAS WHAT???!!!😨
Titans Episode Where He Got Shot In The Neck, DCEU and DC Animated Movie Universe Did Him So Wrong!!!!
Relateable
After the last season of harley queen i can't take him seriously anymore 🗿
I don't take Harley or her show seriously. A show where Nightwing gets disrespected and Batman has a foot fetish? Hard pass.
The Harley Quinn DLC made me really hate the Arkham games for a while, I get she was getting help from Ivy and Harley did (beat?) Yeah, the Arkham games nerf all of the other hero’s to make Batman shine more which kinda sucks.
What does that title mean ? he was what ?... nightwing is what ?...or is nightwing was what ?
If I was James Gunn I’d START the DCU with a Nightwing v Deathstroke flick. Just the existence of those two characters establishes a TON of canon that you can just retcon however you want. Can you do a video on dceu polkadot man please 👉👈😅
Im proud of you Dick.
Teen Titans Go that’s why
Underrated? He's my favorite, just behind Batman. Superman's favorite Robin too
But it was batman that new he would be the leader of the justice league.
I wouldn't say Harley graped him. After all he made it clear he was somewhat interested. That was more sharing a fruit cocktail.
Yeah I agree, but the other two were
When you said he was graped. I was imagining something alittle more...embarrassing.

Seems like a W to me he hit Harley Quinn loll
Tru
I mean rape as long as it's women it's not that traumatizing no wonder he still feels good
Don't be a weird freak. I see you are totally ok with rape. Probably a rapist yourself
Nightwing always gets done dirty ngl
