Simply, beautiful, those violins, the voices, the girl singing at the beginning, the little girl singing at the end, those drums, everything beautifully performed. I was about to cry when I heard violins and I said to my self, Dear God I can't believe in you💙
Very nice cover, and i love the t shirt. That is such a great record too. Can’t believe its almost 35 years since Skylarking came out. Thanks for this!
Just came across this (amazing cover by the way!) checked the credits and it's Lyle Workman who recorded guitar for Spilt Milk (amongst other accolades)!
Thanks! We consider ourselves very lucky to call Lyle a close friend. He even co wrote two songs on the first Lazlo Bane album (Buttercup & View From The Pavement). 😊👍🏻
Mr. Fischer's voice evokes Ben Folds for me and I love the visual shout out by the bass player to our favorite Little 5 record store. Well done indeed.
Such a wonderful performance!colaboration is the best thing in music! It's rare to stumble on something these days and know in the first 10 seconds you'll be a long time fan!
It sounds like a slide guitar floats through this arrangement for a while, but it's not shown. Am I hearing things? Anyhow, very well done. Thanks for this.
Indeed there is a volume swell electric guitar on the bridge. There’s also an additional electric guitar on the last section. You’re hearing a finished mix in protools with some additional performances that were not videotaped.
Absolutely beautiful cover!. Great arrangement and performance, including the unexpected, but perfect performance of Violet at the end. I have to say that when Violet started to sing, I completely lost it and had tears rolling down my cheek. Also, I give an A+ to the string arrangement and performances. My only minor, nit picky critique is I thought your main vocals were too dry (I didn't hear any effects) and I think they would have sounded fuller/richer with at least some reverb.
Thanks for all the positive feedback, Neal! Much appreciated. We’re still wonder why we’re not superstars too ;-) Well, maybe one day. Btw, check out our cover of Life On Mars. Definitely much more reverb on that vocal. 😃👍🏻
@@chadfischermusic6156 Thanks, Chad, I will definitely check out that song, along with your remaining videos I didn't get to watch because I decided that I have to get SOME work done! 😆 Also, tell Violet that I think she rocked her vocal performance!
@@RockDocNeal ha! I hear ya. Stop procrastinating and get back to work. Although the Life on Mars video awaits you complete with an Apollo Space capsule I built in my garage. It’s your namesake - it is your destiny! 😁👍🏻
This is fantastic honestly! As we chatted about, can you share how you did the overdubbing and synchronizing for this? I'm so confused how to line up videos from various collaborators. The vids only have THEIR parts on them with no click?
Brandon Milner Thanks! I actually line it up by ear and sight. I’m using iMovie (which is very limited) so when I pull in a video I can see the wave form imbedded in it’s audio. So I can see where he first note of the instrument is played. Then I slide it over to the corresponding waveform imbedded in the main mix audio file that I’ve imported into iMovie. Line up the bumps in the wave form and then check the movements of the performance to make sure it’s lined up properly. Does that answer your question?
@@chadfischermusic6156 That's what I was afraid of... that folks are doing it manually, by hand. The problem with that is, if the performer is leaning ahead of the beat, or laying back, you are imposing your own sensibility on that, by doing it manually (i.e. their first instrument note might be slightly off the song downbeat etc.). Since I'm often the bassist or drummer on these things, that makes a huge difference. I'm trying to figure out a way to get it to line up EXACTLY. What I did for my last collaboration video was I exported my performance (piano) but included a few seconds of the original backing track I was playing to at the start of the video. That way, the person compiling it could use those first few seconds to line up my video exactly to his own. He then muted my video until I actually started playing. Make sense?
I remember when this came out as I was a young teen already questioning the church. This song always gives me chills. Amazingly collaboration 🙌🏻
Thanks!
When the little girl came on to close out the vocals, I literally cried! Beautifully done!
Yup. She got me too.
Me too
I was ready for it, and it wrecked me! Amazing
same
Oh, I did too! Doesn't even matter if you know it's coming, gets me every time. Her sweet face, those innocent big eyes...
The last verse/outro ("won't believe in heaven or hell" etc) is always so powerful and emotional. Gave me total goosebumps.
Great version. Gave me goosebumps. Congrats.
This is absolutely awesome! Took my breathe away! Amazing cover. This needs more likes.
Thanks, Teach! And we totally agree! Feel free to watch and “like” my other videos. More cover’s I’m sure you will enjoy. 😃👍🏻
The ultimate atheists anthem ! My favorite since I first heard it way back when on MTV late 80s.
Amazing and perfectly done. 👍👍
Atheists dont believe in God. No need to pray, sing or write to non existent diety.
Simply, beautiful, those violins, the voices, the girl singing at the beginning, the little girl singing at the end, those drums, everything beautifully performed. I was about to cry when I heard violins and I said to my self, Dear God I can't believe in you💙

Andy Partridge used Rocky Raccoon by The Beatles as inspiration for Dear God.
