Oh, man! Yet another wonderful quilt design that I feel like I MUST make... you're driving me crazy MSQC-- I can't keep up with my wish list of all your great ideas on TH-cam! Luckily, I usually order my charm packs in groups of 4, as that's usually the number you need to make a nice-sized quilt... like this one. I tried this with 2 white and 2 print block 4 patches (every other one print) and when I put them face down, put colors on white and white on colors. When I cut them I got cool hourglasses like your Ohio Star quilt. I got 4 at a time, which makes it go faster.

This is so fun! Adding this hourglass quilt to my to-do list. . . I just bought fabrics from your website to make the "Strips and 4 patch quilt" using fabrics similar to Catherine Galley's beautiful red quilt posted on your FB timeline where she used Kaffe Passion and Kona corals and reds. Who can resist? And I bought Kaffe Passion Shaggy Red for the backing. Wonderful big flowers!! I am constantly inspired and learn so much from your tutorials and I love your fabric selections!! And I have my fingers and eyes crossed that I will also win big in your Golden Star Sweepstakes. How I would love to win a trip to Missouri!!

It's much easier to line up your seams if all your blocks are the same size. I haven't tried this technique yet, but it seems as though the blocks would come out very close to the same size without much trimming.

was looking for your hourglass tutorial and came across this. How cool is that!!? love it- want to do it smaller in a baby quilt, but that picnic size seems perfect.

I just ❤ how you're able to take what can be a labor-intensive, time-consuming quilt block & turn it into a quick & easy adventure!
I'm about to embark on a baby quilt in pinks & whites for my newborn granddaughter & am so inspired by this tutorial.
    Thank You!!!

Can you tell me how big the squares would need to be if putting four together ending up with a 12.5" quilt square?

    • @mariaj3263

Connie Gordon not sure if you’ll ever see this, but just doing the math for you in theory: if you want 12.5” finished hourglasses, you need to start w 4 squares that are 9 3/8”. Subtracting seam allowances, that should give you a 17.5” square, which when you cut diagonally, will result in slightly oversized 12.5” blocks that you can trim down. Disclaimer: haven’t actually made it/tested it.
