Should We Get a Second Booster Vaccine? What the Science Says | WSJ

  • To fight Omicron surges, some countries are handing out second booster shots. In Israel, early data suggest a fourth vaccine dose can increase protection against Covid-19, but scientists aren’t sure how long it can last and some say additional boosters won’t help. Ok, it’s really quite simple. The third dose increases immunity, so after the fourth dose, you’ll be protected. Once 80% of the population has received the fifth dose, the restrictions can be relaxed as the sixth dose stops the virus from spreading. I am confident that the seventh dose will solve our problems and we’ll have no reason to fear the eighth dose. The clinical phase of the ninth dose will confirm that the antibodies remain stable after the tenth dose. The eleventh dose will ensure that no new mutations will develop, so there is no longer any reason to criticize the twelfth dose. After the 12th dose, you'll be protected from the bendmeover and thrustit variants.

      And it depends on what virus you are vaccinated for.

    • @xandysaid
      @xandysaid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do know that the only way to get that is by getting the disease?
      Yes t cells are important, but they are only created if the cells had contact with the protein spikes in COVID virus. But you can either do that by taking a vaccine, or getting infected.
      Now t cells are just memories of how to fight the virus, but they require a strong immune system to be able to produce the antibodies (that's what t cells are for), and then start attacking the virus. Some people, specially older ones don't have that privilege, so they need the actual antibodies. Because their body may never create enough antibodies to fight the virus. Not only that, but before the body creates any antibodies, the virus replicates freely, so when you have the antibodies, you have a higher viral charge. Which increases your chances of contracting harsher symptoms on your body.
      Most young adults won't need booster shots as older people, but t cells also have time limits, so they also need one extra booster one year after they got vaxxed.

    "and some say" - now that's the kind of reporting I'd expect from a Rupert Murdoch publication.

    The fact that TH-cam is even letting this video be posted means that even before I watch it, I know with about 98% certainty that at a bare minimum, they'll say whether or not you should is inconclusive, and will more than likely say that it is definitely safe and 100% recommend it. If they doubted it's efficacy, there's no way TH-cam would have let them post it. Thanks Susan Wojcicki.

      @@eltopo71 Surely this comment can't be serious...
      You do realize TH-cam is more than just a news site, right? Furthermore, how information is being presented to the public and knowledge of what that information is gives one a well-rounded view of how people draw the conclusions they do. If I only listen to news I agree with, I could never hope to understand those who disagree.

    I think for most, 1 booster is plenty. Chasing neutralising antibodies every 4-6 months is not a good long-term strategy.
