This video is amazing, as is your process. Your calm, even voice makes everything smooth, even the fabric. I didn't think this was possible and when you finished pressing, I was blown away. Thanks for such a well thought out presentation. The video was spot on, in focus and showed every step. Thanks so much!
I was so anxious about making this block for my modern quilt guild Block of the Month. I had decided to do 3 practices and if I still couldn't get it that I would just cut out a circle and fuse it down. I watched this video and just started relaxing! It was like having Mr. Rogers calmly walking me through the process and telling me that everything would be all right! I did my practice circle using double the pins but I made it calmly and without any unsewing! One try and I'm ready to go to my regular fabric. I am going to have the video up just to make sure that I'm matching up the 2 pieces correctly. Thank-you soooo much!
You'd think after watching this video five times, I would get it. But THIS VIDEO is the one I ALWAYS come back to! And yes, I will need to watch it again, but the video is clear and I always come out with perfect inset circles! Thank you!
What a beautiful job you have done! I've always been anxious about making circles, so I avoided them. You made it look so easy that I want to run to my sewing table and make one! Thank you so much for your tutorial!
Awesome video! Your video started after a different one finished. I was immediately interested in your work. You made this look sew easy! I love your description of lining up the grain of the fabric. An important detail to produce success in sewing. Thanks you!
Thanks! You saved my project. I am working with nine 19 inch circles made from wedges and I didn't want to applique them to my squares! They are working out like a charm. Phew!
Omg thank you so much! I'm just starting out and for the life of me I couldn't find a simple explanation of how this works. You're such a good, gentle teacher, too. You remind me of Mr. Rogers
Thank you for your excellent tutorial. I went the extra step of basting, so I wouldn't have to deal with pins as I was stitching. My circle is prefect! I watched other ways of piecing a circle, but none were as nice as your way:)
Thank you so much for this video. I'm working on the National Quilt Museum January block and it's a circle. Your instructions are clear and I was able to piece my circle easily.
Saving this one Fantastic tutorial soooooo very helpful much appreciated Never saw this done before Having a..a ha moment Love it when someone shares the good stuff ( secrets) and possibilities
Trying to learn inset circles has been an experience -- difficult I might add. I found two techniques on TH-cam: freezer paper and this pin-matching technique. The freezer paper method is easier to stitch but fussy and messy to prep; I like this one better. My practice units are not flat and have ripples around the circle -- ironing, starching, clipping curves and squaring the block all helped but none are quilt worthy. Nonetheless, I'm going to put them together and practice the free motion quilting design that got me interested in the first place.
I followed your instructions for the 7” circle as described and was really delighted with the result. It laid nice and flat too. I then tried to do same with a 6” circle using a 5” hole in the surround. This one didn’t go as smoothly (may have been fabric choice) but I couldn’t get a decent result. Is there a formula for cutting sizes on different size circles? And in your experience when does the circle become too small for this technique?
Very informative, I'm going to give this technique a try. Loved how you kept the vid making real, I learned how challenging it can be. Thanks so much. I have loved your quilt art for years. Best to you!!
I made a pattern to make a beach ball, sewed the pieces together & then I used your method to inset my beach ball into a circle in a square. I couldn’t have done it without your excellent tutorial!!
This is exactly what I was looking for, and thanks to your math, I didn't cut the hole only half an inch smaller than the inset fabric. Right idea, but would've ruined / had a larger patch for my glove.. Whew! Thank you!! :D
Thank you so much! I nearly had to abandon a teddy bear because I just couldn't work out the best way to insert the tummy patch, with this it looks SO CUTE
ooh! I held my breath all the time whilst you were sewing around! brilliant!
So much easier than you thought right?
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you
Excellent!

Love this technique! Found this from a blog in Malaysia! Thanks (from Chicago) for your great tips about pins as well!
Ironically we're in Oak Park so not sure why our video went to Malaysia and back!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have struggled for so long to do circles neatly! You are a wonderful teacher!
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this process; you’ve done a great job. Insetting a circle isn’t as scary as I thought. Thank you! 🙂
If you follow the technique, it's very easy.

You are amazing! I love your calm attitude. You made the dreaded circle look easy enough to tackle. Thank you!
If you cut accurately, pin with our method and have a consistent 1/4" seam allowance, it's really not hard at all.
Excellent video, exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Excellent!
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Great tutorial. Thank you!

So glad you found it useful!
Excited to try this! I used a different method and the fabric that framed the circle got super bunched up.

It sounds like you've already made great progress. With practice it'll become second nature.
My favorite inset circle demo!!!! Thanks!
@AvivaHadas - Although there are special circle cutting tools, we simply cut freehand with a rotary cutter.
A difficult task made simple thanks to your video. Thank you. Easy instructions. I just need practice :)
Glad it was helpful!
Love your videos and your way of explaining the process to the viewers. Thank you!
Fabulous. Thank you. So clear, detailed and easy to follow.

Thank you for this tutorial.
You are welcome!
Thank you so much for this educational and helpful content!
You're very welcome!
Hello! Can you please demonstrate how to do an inset square? Thank you 🙂
No need to inset a square because you can sew straight lines. If you didn't want a seam, it would basically be the same technique as a Y-seam.
@@modernquiltstudio thank you. I was overthinking that one!
THANK YOU so much, you’re a genius!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for sharing this. Great information.
Glad it was helpful!
I really needed this tutorial. Thanks so much! I can do this now.
Amazing!!

Great info!! Setting the machine to "slow" sewing speed and using "needle down" will help with control.
This is very helpful! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Just great ! Thanks LOT.
You're welcome!
Where could I find the tool you are using to push fabric along\out of the way, as your sewing the circles together? Thank You!
Bill was using the tips of his fingers to push the fabric along.
@@user-tx2ri3vv5t I ended up figuring out what he had in his hand. Was the tool with brush that comes with sewing machine. Ty..
@@MsOoglyBoo You got it! I use whatever's handy whether it's a chopstick or the cleaning tool I used here.
Really helpful. Thank you.
Glad to hear it!
Thank you. But how did you cut two perfect circles. EXACTLY one inch smaller/larger? 🙏
You can use a template or a compass or our Trimming ruler that has holes drilled for this exact purpose.
Beautiful!!!
Thank you!!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Thank you Sir
You're quite welcome!
Thank you,,really very good job,,👍👍👍👍👍❤👈
What if your inner circle is larger so you want it to poof out instead of laying flat?
That is a different technique and you'll need to make the adjustments you want for the look you want. We want all of our quilts to lie flay.
Good demo - much appreciated.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you!!
Wow thank you!

We've have lots of requests for this topic!
Nice!
How did you cut the circles?
+AvivaHadas With a rotary cutter
The ironing board 🤷🏻♀️
