Great comparison for those who want to make an informed decision. It's also cool that you had a friend to rollerskate next to you, for an easier comparison.
It does kill my ear though, when people say "verse," instead of "versus." Two entirely different concepts.

A good desperate stopping technique is to get low then drop to a seated position. A bad desperate stopping technique is crashing into something or trying to grab something while your legs slide out from under you.

Also: rollerskates are a bit safer for people whose knees dislocate easily. The teetering side to side on inline skates when trying to find your balance can definitely cause a kneecap to dislocate (especially if you have damaged ligaments). Roller skates put much less stress on your ligaments so they are a great option for those of us who want to skate in spite of bad knees!

I don't know what happened but the next summer all the sales disappeared and no kid was playing on them anymore. @@i.am.ded.This is true, "rollerblades" are actually called inline skates. It's just here in the US, the biggest inline skate seller brand name is "Rollerblade"
So, the skates they sell all have "Rollerblade" written on them. People find it easier to say rollerblades instead of inline skates, and leaves less confusion when talking about either inline skates or quad skates. We just say blades or skates instead, pretty often.

Roller blades are easier to balance on than roller skates.

  • @Hannah7Banana
    @Hannah7Banana ปีที่แล้ว +13

I have done both and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages…
Rollerblades are faster and your center of balance is in the center/back of your foot because of the flat design, making it easier to go side to side for speed.
Roller skates / quads are slower but easier to balance on, and it’s much easier to turn in quads which is great for dancing… however, I do figure skate (on ice) and I’ve gotten so used to that side to side type of balance that I find it easier to balance on rollerblades now because I can move my foot side to side MUCH easier which ultimately gives me more control and allows me to balance for longer.
I prefer rollerblades most of the time, but for the chill days or around the house I prefer quads

If you want to cover pretty long distances, the lower cuff models, sometimes called marathon skates, with 3_5 80-110mm wheels are great. True Speedskates, in my experience, are only good if you truly skate often enough so your ankles get and stay strong. Fit also needs to be tighter and less cushy. Both will also require more strength for the same brake pressure ( if you use a heel brake pad)

I was teaching myself to go backwards in the driveway when Zena, our Jack Russell Terrier, ran behind me and I fell, breaking my left wrist, and spraining my right. I never really started skating again, but I wish I had! I’m 35 and pregnant right now, so I definitely shouldn’t try to start again now, but after I have our daughter I might try to pick it up again. it could be related to the tightness of the screw that regulates the looseness of the wheels or to the material of the wheels (depending on the surface you skate on you will use different wheels. generally if you dont skate on competition rings you will need wheels made of a softer rubber made to skate on concrete/streets, so that they can absorb a bit of the unevenness of the floor. if these are not the problems, it could be simply that your legs have yet to develop the strength to push yourself and the skates forward so you would only need to practice more. hope this helps :)

I like rollerblades more than rollerskates. And I like blades as they look better, especially smaller wheels for street tricks.

Yep and roller skates on Christmas Day costed my mom and dad 20,000$ and me going to 5 different hospitals and 8 months in a wheel chair. And over 4,000 for new clothes cause I gained weight and physical therapy and lots of gas and drs appointments and pain and my grades and can’t even walk right 2 years later. December 25th 2023 will mark 3 years. And we can’t forget depression anxiety and stress and can’t go back and go what I love. And now my mental health is terrible. It has also costed us 9 ambulance rides my life flashing before my eyes. My sleeping schedule is now 💩
Cause when we got back home from 9 am - 5am next day. Also an eating disorder from not getting to eat that day because they didn’t know it I needed surgery, teachers getting mad at me thro zoom. And did I mention we had Covid the day I broke it too. Yea. That’s what roller skates can do ❤
Also. My mom and fams mental health. And guilt because they bought me the shoes.
As well as my whole let was the wrong way. My knee and my heel of my foot should not me seen together at the same time. My knee broke.as well at ankle and 2 bones in my leg also dr author wanted to be the star when it rains storms or snows so yea
ALL AT 10 AT THE TIME NOW IM 13 😂 😭😭

I was given a pair of "inlines"(blades, no idea why we called them inlines lol) when I was 6-7 and my gosh I could not figure out how to comfortably go more than a few feet without losing balance. Started rollerskating at a nearby rink (which has sadly closed) and it just worked so much better for me. I've tried both again recently and blades still don't work for me. I don't think they fit right though, the support was clearly supposed to be there but my ankles just wobbled inside them. So it's skates every time for me, but who knows, maybe I'll pick it up eventually.

Their actual names are “inline skates” not rollerblades. Rollerblade is a company that produces good quality inline skates and was very popular back in the day. We probably just refer to all inline skates as rollerblades because everyone was probably buying from rollerblade before

all the years i went to the skating rink i got roller skates and i could not go 5ft from the wall before i felt like i was gonna break a bone. my last time i went i said screw this im getting roller blades, THEY WERE SO MUCH EASIER OH MY GOD. i was actually able to move around and state close to the center and around the sitting area and i actually had fun

I know I am seeing this late I’m am just a 12 yr old girl and these videos help me a lot and I used to skate but now I mostly use my blades and they are so much faster and you just feel the breeze one time my dad went on a skate with me we where both on our blades and there is a huge hill that leads to a Main Street and my dad convinced me it was a good idea to go does this massive hill (I wasn’t wearing any gear not helmet knee pad nothing) and at the time I didn’t have much experience and we went down I was screaming the whole way down I almost cried lucky I didn’t fall at all but there was like I not sure what to call these so I’m going to call them inside out speed bumps in the road and I didn’t know who to not fall when we got to those and I couldn’t think fast enough but luckily I didn’t fall but never again 😅

I’ve never really tried roller blades before? I just stick with the skates that I have and I self taught my self from a close friend:) they are easier to get a hang on I think? Because roller baldes you really have to get a good balance on. Although I love skates I’ve never really learnt how to spin on them which is sad because it seems fun 😂

what if you made custom roller blades that were splayed out and had two per shoe. would that be the best of both worlds. easy to get into due to the width, easy to balance due to the width, and better heel support due to the length?

For some reason I’ve always done blades ever since I tried them because I found it hard to balance on the other ones. Guess I’m not good with front to back balance but fine at left and right ? Wonder if that could be the reason. Anyways I would fall a ton and it hurt and the switch made a huge difference for me, even though I’m a casual skater I feel super comfy on the blades !
