There's a story about a witch that's buried close to the town I live in. Her name was Mary Jane. Apparently some young guys spit one her grave. One did not. They were supposedly in a bad accident and the only one who survived was the one who didn't partake.
Another great video and so fitting for the season! Witches is such an interesting topic as there are so many interpretations and practices, sadly is closely tied with so much tragedy. Thank you for another wonderful video!
I dressed up as a witch twice before. But getting to know my horoscope is a Virgo, I’d be a great good witch to protect innocent people and animals. Plus, the environment because it makes me feel good to think about the beauty, wonders, and importance of nature. So, I feel bad for the people who have been labeled as witches because regular people didn’t understand what it’s like to be so different from society. So much so that some people still treat other (like being diagnosed with autism or ADHD) very poorly.
As others have said, another wonderful video as we inch ever closer to Halloween night! I love how informative these videos have been during October, and this one was delightfully thorough! For favorite witch from folklore, I'm going to have to go with Baba Yaga. Slavic mythology is fantastically wild and freaky, and nothing says "witch in the woods" like the cannibalistic old hag whose property line is marked with glowing skeleton heads and whose house can just up and take a stroll whenever it pleases. This video also made me think back to a childhood favorite of mine, "The Three Lives of Thomasina," which featured a kind-hearted outcast named Lori "Mad Lori" MacGregor, believed to be a witch because of her natural abilities to calm animals and exceptional healing abilities. As much as I love a good spooky witch figure, I also appreciate characters who were misunderstood, often in relation to healing practices or scientific pursuits that were actually ahead of their time.
Thank you so much for your wonderful message!! It’s not too often you run across a non-biased report on Wicca. 😁👍 I studied Wicca for several years. Had all the books/trappings/accessories/etc. I still believe it’s a wonderful, peaceful, personal experience, religion and journey. For those who dont know. Rev. Cotton Mathers was a Physician, Lawyer, and Preacher in the middle of the Salem witch trials. He was friends with a family with the last name Franklin. Fircely believing Church and State should be separated. A philosphy that inspired a young boy named Benjamin.

I stick to good witches like Samantha Stephens, esmeralda, luz, Eda, the charmed ones, and glinda the good witch from the wizard of Oz. No long hooked noses, no black mouthed teeth, and no warts why because witches are people like us and I'm still stick to good witches ❤
So the idea of a cursed mummy returning to life and wreaking havoc among the living is a Hollywood concept, not one from myth or folklore. Poltergeists on the other is fair game!
I really appreciate how you handle the racist angles of the witch trials, and your handling of the modern practices, thanks for the effort and straightforward facts!
When it comes to witches from pop culture, my two personal favorites would have to be Mismagius and Delphox from Pokemon. Having raised a Mismagius myself (I gave her the nickname "Missy"), I can tell you that mine is anything but wicked. In the webcomic series "Random Doom", we have Edna, a Sassy-Natured yet Highly Curious Mismagius with a penchant for gossip and a powerful array of spells under her belt. Funnily enough, my Delphox is also nicknamed "Circe". Like her namesake, my Delphox has a habit of turning people into Pokemon with her magic. Rather than doing it out of amusement, she does it as a form of karmic punishment for anyone who has mistreated their own Pokemon. She will restore the person's human shape only when they learn their lesson. On one such occasion, she turned Ash Ketchum's rival Paul into a Gliscor for two weeks as payback for mistreating his Pokemon.
I know a woman that claims to be a witch. Would it be safe to let her play with my hair? She's incredibly beautiful and seemingly gentle, often calling me "love" and kissing my forehead, but I'm *terrified* she might take a thread of my hair and do things to me. If anybody is knowledgeable on this topic, please tell me..
It is likely not safe to allow her to play with your hair. What is her name? I was married to an Osborne witch and later to a Choctaw witch. I know things. What you should do is run away as far and as fast as you can. Go with your gut instincts. Peace be with you, Miranda.
I only studied the light side of the craft. (Healing Protection Guilt jinxes) (etc) Still interesting. Btw my favorite witch is Hermione from Harry Potter
Hecate was actually a goddess of night and moon. Only in few last centuries she started to be connected with witches, for no genuine reason. Link to magic is particularly ludicrous, because all gods/goddesses are by default capable of magic
@@melanimatejak6821 Either way, she's still my favorite. The moon and the night are also closely associated with magic, so there isn't much of a distance...
Male practitioners are called witches. Witch is a gender neutral term. Warlock is a derogatory term. It means oath breaker. For me Halloween is an entire holiday season. Halloween is the witches New Year.
Of course my favorite witch of all time would have to be Samantha Stevens from Bewitched. Then it would have to be the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus.
I have only just seen your videos. They've been very interesting and insightful. I'm a solitary practitioner and am eager to learn all I can. The beliefs I have learned about align with my own core values. We need more witches in today's world. We'd all be better off. ☺️
You are correct. I live in the real Storybrooke (Albany, Oregon). I know the queen mayor. She is a Widmark witch (Swiss witch). I have seen her power.@@reginaucker3533
Being British, my favourite witch is Morgan le Fay. Although Nimue, Merlin's mistress, was said to be even more powerful and Morgan was a bit afraid of her. Morgan and Nimue add alot of fascination to the Arthurian legend. Mind you, I absolutely love the Sanderson sisters aswell. Bette Midler, pure entertainment
Oooo~ I'm a writer myself! One of the tales I'm currently working on is a witch living during WWI but she practices vodou. I wish you the best of luck!
@@sapphirejade5029 same, although in mine witches are a bit different in the story I'm writing, Witches are more like what they are in modern times, as well as people like Circe, Medea, Morgan le fey, etc. their basically just the same thing as a wizard only female instead of male, no real moral alignment specifically on the other hand, a Hag is a type of witch, which is typically more malevolent. it's based on not only the D&D way in how their described (which is what I'm using currently since I plan on making it a game later on, so making a D&D campaign lets me test it out), but also like Baba Yaga, Black Annis, etc. they actively antagonize people but do indeed have access to other forms of magic not normally accessible to most spellcasters. as well, they tend to form covens and contact supernatural forces, which you can guess inspired that.
I live south of Salem (Jerusalem), Oregon - deep in the Pacific Wonderland. There are hundreds of witches here. I have seen their magic many times. I could write a book about all of my encounters with witches and wizards. The ABC TV series ONCE Upon A Time is all about my hometown - Albany, Oregon. I was married to a Chactaw medium for 19 years. Before that, I was married to an Osborne witch. The Chactaw are the descendants of Quetzalcoatl. Osborne is the House of Windsor. We have it all here. The former mayor of Albany is a Widmark witch. In Switzerland, Widmark means 'witch'.
I am a male Witch of many years....I honor no Deity but, respect those who do! My practice is that of Healing of the Sick & injured using Herbs and, magical incantations. I don't fly on broom stick, do not steal, eat or, kill children. I do not cause evil intentions, and I harm no one. I read Tarot Cards, Runes, and Dice in my skill of Divination! I respect all of nature and, gather that which the earth heals up to us as fruit's of our natural surroundings. I am a Male Witch, an Emissary of ancient Gods & Goddesses with no harm to anyone! I offer Blessing to those who need goodness & kindness. So mote it be!🧙♂️
I don’t brew potions or anything but my interest into gothic culture and the interest in the dark arts of mythology, I probably do associate as a witch or this case a warlock. Plus, I do have a pet cat.
I'm a witch that follows the kemetic pantheon religiously but magically, my practice uses a lot of Appalachian folk magic with seeds of hoodoo (thanks to previous teachers I've had that left their marks on my practice). My daughter finally reached an age this past year where she got her first spell book for Yule. She and i were both very proud :) ❤
It's kind of interesting to deconstruct where the entire stereotyped image of a witch in modern Western Culture comes from. Witch is derived from the word Vitka, which is a Germanic Pagan male priest. Interestingly, a female priest was a Volva & this looks like the origins of the word Warlock, a man who practices black magic. In the Germanic-Nordic culture, Vitka & Volva had different responsibilities & one of the ways one would become corrupted is if they conducted ceremonies/ rituals that were the responsibility of the other gendered priest. The witch's hat is often seen on Odin, in one of the many outfits he is depicted in in different myths & representations, which is also the reason why it sometimes also appears on wizards in pop culture, like Gandalf & the only thing we know about Volva were that they often carried a magic staff. Later, as Christians gained enough power to suffocate what was left of old Pagan cultures, the last practitioners tried to hide it by replacing ceremonial items with household ones, like a broomstick. We have one mention from the Romans'war with Queen Boudica showing women preforming some sort of ceremony wearing primarily solid black dresses. The magic cauldron is also a Celtic religious symbol, apparently, if we believe the interpretations of folk tales from Wales that are believed to he representing gods/ goddesses. And the eye of newt, spider's web, etc stuff seems to derive from old names of medicinal plants. Lastly, a very common European concept is just that anything evil is generally portrayed as being particularly ugly or gross.
#Hekate is a different force of nature than the Shadow she definitely helps our women find their path still our 💚 centre beats to the Void of space #2Spirit #indigenous #philosophy #mythology #spirituality
In all the its history the world couldn’t bear the more capable and knowledgeable individuals among themselves and tried to dismiss them in a different ways using the basic stupidity of the crowd. Pity for people who were only capable of help- but condemned to be a witchcraft providers…… O tempora o mores😳
I dare say, those women who know the holy spirit and are of higher mind. They persecute still today- but in a way that is just un heard. Because there are many in my tribe I have french moles, cindy Crawford and Marilyn Monroe ... And yes... Set apart from the rest to be a seer "prophet" in order to instigate god's balance in reasoning. I was a child prodigy on art and music. How else can change in society take place? Facisn then is the only answer to all this Oh yes. My black dog would be a blur. Then be disappearing... Why he loves running loose. His seizures, were kore like horrific visions of spirits And three fold thing is no joke
Lol!! I have red hair, blue eyes, I'm Celtic, I have 2 black cats, and talk to myself (sometimes I need expert advice!) and animals (a different perspective)!!!!! Guess I'm a 🧙♀️!!!!!!!
Here's one that's missing: Aradia, an Italian folkloric figure of witchcraft who according to legend taught oppressed peasants how to perform witchcraft to use against the Roman Catholic Church and Rome's upper classes.
As much as I like this episode of Mythology Unleashed, and it being the perfect topic for the Halloween season, I have to say, this episode made me cry. Of course I knew some history going into this of the witch trials, but I guess it was hearing it in this much detail that really broke my heart. So many innocent people (and animals) persecuted, and for the pettiest of reasons... Being single, divorced, or widowed? Having unique appearances, or talking to oneself or animals? Battles over property and possessions? Really??? Oh, and by the way, as a Christian myself, I wish I could reach back in time to the witch hunters and kick them in the balls for making up all this shit. Not only is it slander, but Jesus teaches us to CARE for the widows, and other vulnerable people. Furthermore, even those who really did practice witchcraft, and still do today and all across time, did/do not deserve to die. No one deserves to be persecuted for their beliefs. No one. Whatever happened to Jesus telling us all to love one another, no matter who they are or what they believe? Besides, I've met some witches before, and they're some of the most peaceful people I've known, a lot more than some churchgoers I can mention. * cough * Westborough * cough * Anyway, may all those souls rest in peace, and may that dark chapter of history never repeat itself. 😔🕊️
I used to want to believe in such things, but now i dont. I believe that science is law & there are many things we dont understand about what is possible, but even the unfathable has its limits. I believe that energy is energy & it has to come from somewhere. It doesn't just appear thru your hands like lightning for you to shoot out your fingertips. I think that humans have forgotten much about natural energy & mistaken weilders of energy for mystical and magical beings. If history has taught us anything, it's that we really dont know anything.

So the idea of a cursed mummy returning to life and wreaking havoc among the living is a Hollywood concept, not one from myth or folklore. Poltergeists on the other is fair game!
@@MythologyUnleashed Please please do Poltergeists! That would be so cool.
Don't forget the ones from video games like Gruntilda from Banjo-Kazooie, Twinrova from The Legend of Zelda, and Ashley from WarioWare.
The one way you can tell if she is a witch is if she weighs the same as a duck
I really enjoyed this
Thank you! Blessed be!
I’m a hedge witch still want that flying broom my car is crap
And you wouldn't have to pay petrol 😅
I know a woman that claims to be a witch. Would it be safe to let her play with my hair? She's incredibly beautiful and seemingly gentle, often calling me "love" and kissing my forehead, but I'm *terrified* she might take a thread of my hair and do things to me. If anybody is knowledgeable on this topic, please tell me..
I am a practitioner of witchcraft and I so don't let her play in your hair or let her in your house either, Blessed Be.
@baronghede2365 What would she do if she came into my house?
Anya: they can take items in your house to curse/hex you, Blessed Be.
(Healing Protection Guilt jinxes) (etc)
Still interesting. Btw my favorite witch is Hermione from Harry Potter
But what about TV's Bewitched's beloved young witch, Samantha Stephens, played by Elizabeth Montgomery (1933-1995)?
I would have been screwed I’m female, red hair, freckles, blue eyes and I own a black cat out in the middle of nowhere.
Nice work. Reminds me that I still need to give the witch I created on my DA page a name.
Hecate has - and will always be - my favourite since she is the goddess of witchcraft and magic...
Thankfully, we only have to weigh the accused against a duck to discern the truth.
Regina is Latin for Queen. Regina is the wicked queen in ABC's TV series ONCE Upon A Time.
@@Rockstar97321 yes, Regina is latin for queen. I believe that's why they gave it to the evil queen in the "Once Upon a Time series ☺️
So much reverence.
Good morning blessings everyone 🙏 ✨️ 🙌 💛
Thanks for this info 👁️
Let’s see what new things I can learn about Witches. 🧙🏼♂️
I’m writing a story about them and your channel helps me a lot with mythology. 🎃🧡
Oooo~ I'm a writer myself! One of the tales I'm currently working on is a witch living during WWI but she practices vodou. I wish you the best of luck!
@@sapphirejade5029 same, although in mine witches are a bit different
in the story I'm writing, Witches are more like what they are in modern times, as well as people like Circe, Medea, Morgan le fey, etc. their basically just the same thing as a wizard only female instead of male, no real moral alignment specifically
on the other hand, a Hag is a type of witch, which is typically more malevolent. it's based on not only the D&D way in how their described (which is what I'm using currently since I plan on making it a game later on, so making a D&D campaign lets me test it out), but also like Baba Yaga, Black Annis, etc. they actively antagonize people but do indeed have access to other forms of magic not normally accessible to most spellcasters. as well, they tend to form covens and contact supernatural forces, which you can guess inspired that.
@@camdenthompson4307 ah~ Okay! Best of luck to ya!😉✊️
I'm an eclectic witch and I follow eclectic Wicca
Just think of all the countless people that have been put to death because of ignorant people 💀
I have no altar. I pray right there. I am epilepsy. Have fun with that. My mother hates it when i predict stuff
Happy Thanksgiving
I am a male Witch of many years....I honor no Deity but, respect those who do!

So mote it be!🧙♂️
Awesome and cool! ^_^
Minus the 10:48-11:07.
I don’t brew potions or anything but my interest into gothic culture and the interest in the dark arts of mythology, I probably do associate as a witch or this case a warlock. Plus, I do have a pet cat.
Anime takes the beauty of witches to a whole new level and some are loved by fans
Witches is for male and female ... I'm a guy and practicing the craft
Oh dear! I have two black cats, different eyes, freckles and red highlights in my hair! I must be a witch!😂😂😂
The daughter of a witch... is a witch.
You talked about the moon eater Bakunawa stands to reason you should speak about Minokawa the sun eating dragon
I was Madam Mim at our work Halloween parade this year. 😂. No one knew who she was. Literally not a single soul.
#Hekate is a different force of nature than the Shadow
she definitely helps our women find their path still

My little sister wants you to make a video talking about mermaids.
"Are you a Good Witch...or a Bad Witch?"
In all the its history the world couldn’t bear the more capable and knowledgeable individuals among themselves and tried to dismiss them in a different ways using the basic stupidity of the crowd.
Pity for people who were only capable of help- but condemned to be a witchcraft providers……
O tempora o mores😳
10:03 if I had been alive at that time, I'd have been f*cked! I have freckles and moles all over my body, and I have unique eyes.
❤
I dare say, those women who know the holy spirit and are of higher mind. They persecute still today- but in a way that is just un heard. Because there are many in my tribe
I have french moles, cindy Crawford and Marilyn Monroe ... And yes... Set apart from the rest to be a seer "prophet" in order to instigate god's balance in reasoning. I was a child prodigy on art and music. How else can change in society take place? Facisn then is the only answer to all this
Oh yes. My black dog would be a blur. Then be disappearing... Why he loves running loose. His seizures, were kore like horrific visions of spirits
And three fold thing is no joke
Ain't no hate like christian love.
Lol!! I have red hair, blue eyes, I'm Celtic, I have 2 black cats, and talk to myself (sometimes I need expert advice!) and animals (a different perspective)!!!!! Guess I'm a 🧙♀️!!!!!!!
Bewitch
Why don't witches wear panties?
To get better grip on the broom.
😂
The broom has ergot on it. It makes them fly.
Here's one that's missing:
Aradia, an Italian folkloric figure of witchcraft who according to legend taught oppressed peasants how to perform witchcraft to use against the Roman Catholic Church and Rome's upper classes.
I had the feeling that i was someone with special or supernatural abilities
❤i love 💕 witches and witchecraft i love god and Jesus Christ as a hobby from childhood witches and witchecraft
Charmed.
