    Dr Liu... Thank you so much. You have literally saved my life. I am a 73 year old in New Delhi, India. About 12 years ago, I stopped smoking and started suffering with Vasomotor Rhinitis. Withiin half/one hour of lying down, my nostril will close making breathing almost impossible. For the last 12 years, I had been taking medicines like, oxymetazoline drops, fluticasone, mometasone, etc etc. A few days ago, I followed your advise about mixin budesonide .5 mg respule in my Neti solution. NASAL INFLAMMATION HAS REDUCED DRASTICALLY AND I AM ABLE TO HAVE A PEACEFUL SLEEP IN THE NIGHT. THANKS AGAIN.RISHI PRAKASH

    I have to do this twice a day for the rest of my life due to sinusitis. I lost my taste and smell for years, my ENT performed sinus surgery for me last year and ever since this amazing Budesonide rinse and the surgery, I am able to breath, smell and taste so well now. But it is a pain to do it twice daily, but it helps so I can't complain, much better than before!

      How long did you use before you tasted and smelled again? What dosage of budesonide? .25 or .50

    • @ChicagoTechGuy
      @ChicagoTechGuy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@niografix1 It took me about 3ish months after surgery for it to start coming back. After my surgery I noticed floral scents were some what smellable but once I went on Budesonide rinse twice daily, it opened up big time. I am using 0.6 MG. I had a very bad case of it though, I really could not smell or taste anything in the end before I had my surgery. I really don't know what caused this for me, pretty depressing.. But I am glad I went through with the surgery, it's a huge life improvement for me. I do wonder why I have a never ending sinus infection symptom though, but it is what is, I read it's from chronic Sinusitis. Good luck man, I hope you do well as I did!

      @@ChicagoTechGuy I am losing my sense of taste and smell because of chronic sinusitis. Did this work well for you? Did it restore your smell and taste to normal? What happens if you miss a dose does it wear off? Must one have nasal polyps to use this?

    • @ChicagoTechGuy
      @ChicagoTechGuy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      fallout man hey, I can miss dosages but the key is to stick with it. Like I said I need to take this for the rest of of my life as per my doctors said there is a 70% chance that polyps will come back if I don’t treat it. It has helped a ton, I wish you the best of luck, I know it sucks but it really does help! I also recommend to drink plenty of water and tea. Do you drink alcohol? If so, that’s one of the problems, as it is for me. I am not saying entirely give it up but definitely keep it moderate or drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. That seems to be the biggest issue is hydration with sinusitis. Also take vitamins as well, like B12,D and a multivitamin daily. B12 helps. For the most part I can taste and smell very well, but I must follow all of what I told you. Also when you use the rinse make sure to tilt your head to the sides and let the water drain out, helps keep your sinuses clean.

    I have been using this rinse for three years and it has brought me so much relief. My ENT is the best. He said I will probably have to use this for the rest of my life which is a very small price to pay for the relief it has brought me. The only drawback is my prescription drug insurance does not cover this because it is being used as a traditional treatment for asthma and has not been approved as yet by the FDA to treatment of chronic sinusitis and allergy.

I noticed I started getting my sense of smell back but after a few weeks of using it I feel as if my sense of smell went away again. Is it possible that because I missed a dose (prescribed 2x a day) that maybe it caused the inflammation to return? If I continue the rinse as prescribed will it correct it again?

      not sure about table salt (it's really refined and normally has iodine).....the Ayr rinse packets are made of sodium chloride (salt) and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). I mix my own "powder" because it's cheaper than buying packets...i use two parts sea salt (has no iodine) with one part baking soda... and use slightly less than 1/4 tsp at a time for each rinse.

      try saying the letter k while you are irrigating. that will raise your soft palate and close your throat off from your nasal cavity and keep the water from draining into your throat which might help with the drowning reflex. after a while youll get used to it. ive been at this for months now and i could probably drink water through my nose at this point its gotten so easy, but at first it made me gag and cough every time.

      As I squeeze the bottle in one nasal opening that is sealed from the bottle, I just lightly blow through the nose. Just like swimming and blowing lightly our instead of sucking in . I have that bottle sold with kits but received a smaller one (I think 2 oz) from doctor. I first fill to line in big bottle, shake well with saline mix, fill to line in small bottle, refill to fill line in bigger bottle again, then add my budesonide to the small bottle. I will keep the small bottle in warm water in cup to help keep warm. With the large bottle I will rinse and blow out excess water/mix. Then tip my head way down towards the floor and blow out lad little bit from both sides. Then I squirt up a little on reach side back and fourth until solution is gone. I was told not to rinse out medicine at that point. I tried calling neilmed to order a stash of those small bottles but was told that they only give to the physicians and to have them order it.

    Hello doctor Liu,
    thank you very much for this video, it is very appreciated. I have a question if you don't mind. I am currently doing such a treatment with plumicort nebuamp vials. I wanted to know what you think about the dose I am using. I was prescribed to use a single 2mL vial per day (0.25 mg/mL concentration) in a single sinus rinse bottle. It kinda works (chronic year-long rhinitis because of heavy all-year long allergies) as I feel better but there's much work to be done. My doctor authorized me to take two vials per day (in two different sinus rinse bottles) but it doesn't seem to work any better, things stagnate. Now on my pulmicort box it states that the initial dose should be 1 to 2 mg 2 times per day. So I suppose it means 2 to 4 vials 2 times per day? This seems high compared to my initial dose and the one I am taking now. Is this normal? Is my doctor prescribing me abnormally low doses? (he is reluctlant to prescribe me higher doses)
    And a last related question: I might put more pressure on the bottle than necessary; is it possible that it makes the medication less effective?

      @GeneLiuMD  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You would have to go to your doctor about the dosing. We are always balancing the intended effects with the side effects of any treatment. I can't know for you where the sweet spot it.
      More pressure can squirt too far into the ears. Gentle, high volume, low flow is what you are going for.

    Does it dry out anyone’s mouth or throat? It’s very irritating especially when I’m trying to get to sleep. I had nasal polyps removed in 2020 and have to do this regimen for rest of life to prevent them from growing back. My insurance does not cover any alternatives.

    Can I use smart water it’s vapor distilled with electrolytes for the nasal rinse is that safe?

    • @GeneLiuMD
      @GeneLiuMD  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From the Neil Med site: Additionally, for your safety, do not use tap or faucet water for dissolving the mixture unless it has been previously boiled for five minutes or more as boiling sterilizes the water. Other choices are distilled, micro-filtered (through 0.2 micron), commercially bottled or, as mentioned earlier, previously boiled water at lukewarm or body temperature. You can store boiled water in a clean container for seven days or more if refrigerated. Do not use non-chlorinated or non-ultra (0.2 micron) filtered well water unless it is boiled and then cooled to lukewarm or body temperature.
      You would have to look at the Smart Water details to find out if it fits these criteria.

      @@zhengtracey2363 I think ENS stands for empty nose syndrome. With all the turbinates removed, sinuses drain more easily but there is no filtration or humidification of incoming air when you breathe and this can cause pain. I think a book called Breath mentions a doctor in California who does surgery to undo the original surgery. Or in other words - to reduce ENS. Hope this helps!

    I was under the impression that we are to turn our heads to each side whilst squeezing the liquid into the higher nostril (so it drains out the bottom nostril). Is this necessary? The method you are demonstrating seems more straightforward and easier on the neck.
    Thank you very much 😀
