I'm in med school in France and when I used it no one knew it! I ended up 5th/3000 in my first year thanks to Anki, it's the best tool ever! More people need to know about it...
First year biomed here, this is my second time taking it and been using Anki since the start ! Thanks for all these tips, I've been really enjoying your channel :)
Hi ! I am a first year biomed as well and I am trying to use Anki. How is it going for you? I find it hard to know what I should write in the flashcards on Anki. Because I have heard you have to understand it, if you understand it then what would you write in the flashcards. I am just confused.
@@Fatima-yg7qy Hiya! Well it's more for facts that you need to memorize, so how I do it is write a question for every "block" of information. Like "what enzymes catalyse the phase 2 reactions in the liver?" And I'll write "big" and "small" cards, so like "what are the 4 main hormones which act upon the kidneys" and then "what is the effect of [hormone] on the kidney".
I try to understand the structure of the lecture, and rephrase the important concepts as questions. The point is not to understand it, which you should already, but to test yourself and be able to explain the concepts
But then it might be a bit different for you depending on how much info you're expected to retain and how you're tested (assignments or finals). Personally my school makes us take the same exams as the first year med students so it's really competitive and we basically need to know every detail of the lectures.
Non science background here and about to plunge into Doctor of Medicine 😟 nervous and excited at the same time! I need all the extra tips I can get and so grateful for your video
My problem with anki, is that it takes too long to cover all the cards, so i would spend so much more on the first quarter of the deck than the last 3 quarters.
You can always make subsections for the cards. You can also suspend your cards from the 1st quarter! Just search up “How to suspend cards on anki” Hope it helps!
Quality video, mate. I'm just about to go into an MRes and I'm astounded that this is the first time I have been introduced to Anki and the concept of active recall, etc. Should really be taught in schools.
Download heat map and look into other fun addons! I honestly am in love with having my 329 streak! Meaning I have not missed a single day in studying on anki!
If you have a card with one question and on the other side a very long text (hundreds of words) how can you remember all of that? Isn’t it better to make 10 cards and just have 5-10 sentences at the back of the card?
As far as I know, cloze deletion Is only supposed to work on the front side of the card, not the back. I'm not absolutely sure of this, though. because I'm new to Anki.
Great video once again! One question, do you make separate decks for your "pass med questions / past paper questions" and your "lecture notes"? Also, I don't know if you noticed, but I think the description needs to be fixed ;)) was probably from an earlier video
How do you get through all of these flashcards?? For my introduction to physiology and community medicine courses I decided to use flashcards because a lot of CM required rote memorisation. I ended up with 946 flashcards to review a week before the exam!!!! And I’m only a first Myers medical student so I can only imagine these numbers are going to increase in the long run. How do you get through such a large number of flashcards?
This is a super useful video!! Thank you so much! Would you use Anki to memories anatomy? Because I’m in 2nd year and all these insertion and origins points are trying to come for my neck 😂
You're welcome! Yes I think Anki is most useful for things like anatomy that just require memorisation of words. You can use the imagine occlusion feature with Anki to hide the definitions of insertions/origins and everything else! Please share with any of your friends who might benefit 😁
@@DoctorKenji Fab! Thanks again, I'll definitely be sharing this on my insta because most of us have exams at the end of Jan and this could be a game changer.
hey thank you for the video I know a guy that is preparing for Med school and he is preparing for the entrance exam which consists of Biology and Chemistry do you know of any shared decks that might be helpful for preparing?
I'm in year 11 preparing for year 12 hoping to get a good ATAR so I can become a doctor one day and help people, should I do it like this? And what do I study in uni
Awesome video. Quick question if you don't mind. I'm interested in the light you have attached to your monitor. What's the purpose of that? Does it mitigate eye strain or something?
Hey Kenji! First year medical student here. Wanting to purchase a good desktop for school. Do you mind me asking what you use?? Or something you recommend?
I use the 2018 13inch MacBook Pro but I think it's a bit overkill unless you create content to! My honest opinion would be the MacBook air if it's just for uni use
Wow! I thought I was watching an Ali abdaal video there. The camera angle, the plant, the lighting, the topic, everything!
Haha no just another typical TH-camr 😂😂
For real though... even the script! A little more originality !!
Awesome job Kenji
RIGHT????

sorry ali :/
As a first year medic this was really useful. Think I need to jump on anki sooner rather than later!

You just have to make it a habit to do everyday!

I dont usually make long cards! Either split it up or making them as singles
Anki looks slightly complicated
Would you recommend Quizlet as a good alternative
It is complicated but I'd recommend investing the time to learn it because once you do it's way easier than Quizlet to create the flashcards you want
Cloze deletion doesn't work if I type in the back extra filed anyone has an idea?
