Episode was great as always, but I was kind of struggling to understand how to put the pivoting discussion into action until- "That’s how you pivot there, you take speculative picks on high ceiling cards" Ben is so good at framing big picture thoughts in a simple way... bet he's an awesome teacher.
Essence Reliquary + Ajani Fells is so good together. Especially if you can wait til the third part triggers then return it to hand in response. Essence Reliquary +
56:19 I respectfully disagree with your statement that pick 4 with no green cards being in it there is a clear sign you shouldn’t be eldrazi. I think it’s too early to make that statement because it could have just been a relatively low power level pack to begin with. Pick 5 then supports this with there being a bridgework battle in the pack and in my experience that is slightly late for that card.
nightshade dryad vs conduit goblin for p1p1 is actually a really interesting question. they're both excellent, and interestingly have a virtually identical win rate.
My experience with Bespoke Battlewagon has been exactly the opposite of Ben's. It's been great and my opinion has gone up while playing it. I think that tapping it for 2 energy is probably the best mode on the card. I'm keeping my Solstice Zealots charged and while also keeping a steady energy level of 4 to threaten animation and blocks. The biggest downside, for me, to the tap and draw abilities is that they actually cost 2 more energy than printed on the card.
I agree in decks where you have many ways confirmed to use your energy getting the 2 energy can be great especially in combination with the Izzet generator letting you draw 2 cards a turn off both effects. Wagon, Ironworks, generator, and scurry are the main few energy cards I’m actually willing to splash for.😊
Lost a perfectly good draft deck to pivoting too late this last Thursday (i was stuck on U/R when my seat was very clearly supposed to go for U/B from early pack 2, didn't pivot until late pack 2) so I'm very ready to learn here!
Got a 7-0 with the last win having me attack with Phlage for a helix to the dome, bounce it with essence reliquary cast it again for lethal (Phlage is stupid op).
I agree, cranial ram isn't that great. It's really busted in pauper afinity, but that's only cause 3/4ths of your lands are artifacts on top of other piles of artifacts you can have.
I love the show, but I've got to be honest, the JLK What's the Plays are horrific audio content. I think there are lots of interesting things they could do with it if they could figure out how to simplify these scenarios down to the essence of what matters. Stuff like sequencing lands on early turns etc. But they keep choosing ones where they need to describe 10-20 context factors/game pieces and woof is it bad.
This is good feedback, might have just been better as an anecdote. Don’t love the idea of only limiting WTP to early game decisions, but maybe that’s the limitations of the medium.

Your energy always improves my day. enjoy the podcast!
Siege smash is the truth in black red decks. The trample with cranial rams and deathtouch creatures is insane

I swear the intro song and your voices boosts my mood a lot. You are so appreciated.

some nice takes on pivoting

Love the riddlegate gargoil take. I had a draft on arena Bo1 where I got 6 of them!
Heck yeah!

It’s not legal in pauper affinity…

Agreed. The lesson learned from the play should be discussed more than the play itself

@LordsofLimited Keep the particulars over the universals guys. We can't let Writhing Chrysalis win.
@@LordsofLimited For what it's worth, I really like the mid game decisions. I find complex board states are where I make more misplays.
Screw audio only people, this is good content and these shows focus too much on drafting when gameplay is the reason people don't climb
